Work Text:
Kiyoomi looked down frustrated at his watch. His date was late. There he sat. At a Michelin 5 star restaurant in his finest suit, sitting alone on his second glass of Cabernet. The atmosphere was warm compared to the coldness coming off of him. The waitstaff were almost avoiding him. Wondering who would stand up such a handsome man. Finally Kiyoomi had enough and called him. The phone rang for a bit, and Kiyoomi swore he’d kill him if he sent him to voicemail, but luckily for his date, he picked up the phone.
“Where are you? You didn’t answer my text,” snapped Kiyoomi. “Oh I’m sorry Omi, I was a little busy being shot at,” sassed Atsumu sliding behind a crate. Bullets flying towards his direction. The blond avoided the shots while ducking and weaving around the loading dock. “Don’t take too long,” signed Kiyoomi. “Wouldn’t dream of it sweetheart,” smirked Atsumu, hanging up before shooting back. Kiyoomi put his phone away and decided to just go ahead and order. Flagging down a waitress.
“How may I help you sir,” she smiled nervously. She was a little intimidated by Kiyoomi’s domineer. “My dates running late due to work. I’d like to go ahead and order, for the both of us,” he explained. “Yes of course. What may I get for you,” he replied politely taking out a pad of paper and a pencil from her back pocket. “I’d like the crispy fillet of Red Mullet with purple artichokes reduced with Chasselas sauce. For my date he would like the saddle of Lamb caramelized with bacon sautéed eggplant flavored with black garlic. Also do the Frosted Raspberry Rote Grütze with eau-de-vie for dessert. Oh and another glass of the Cabernet I’ve been drinking and a Riesling for my date,” Kiyoomi finished and the young lady quickly wrote it all down before excusing herself. Kiyoomi swirled his glass. “You have 10 minutes Atsumu,” said Kiyoomi before drinking the last of his glass.
Atsumu on the other hand managed to make it to the restaurant not too much later. Traffic laws be damned. Slipping past the host stand and going into the bathroom. He walked in looking a little worse for wear, yet he walked out looking like a million dollars. Making his way to the table, he and Kiyoomi locked eyes. Atsumu pulled out his chair out just as the food arrived. “Looks like you made it,” smirked Kiyoomi. “And with a few seconds to spare,” Atsumu smiled, sitting down as the food was placed on the table. Once the staff was out of earshot Atsumu said, “ya know they make better food at that hole in the wall ramen place near the station.” “You keep saying that, yet you never pose the invitation,” said Kiyoomi. “Like yer pompous ass would eat among the common folk,” teased Atsumu. “I’m here with you aren’t I,” Kiyoomi rebutted. Atsumu rolled his eyes, “hey be nice I finished up a mission quickly for ya,” he smiled picking up his wine glass. “Oh please, you agents always complain. You’re supposed to finish missions quickly. Maybe the top agent is getting rusty,” said Kiyoomi both dismissively and playfully. “Well ya wouldn’t go out with me if I wasn’t number one. Since a pretty boy like you only dates the best,” teased Atsumu setting his cup down. “You act like it’s a bad thing to have standards,” said Kiyoomi lifting his glass.
“There’s standards, then there’s whatever you got going on,” chuckled Atsumu, cutting into his lamb. “Speaking of work, how did you manage to get out of the mission to Scotland. I thought Akaashi asked for you specifically,” asked Kiyoomi. Atsumu finished another bite before he answered, “oh Oikawa owed me a favor. So he went instead. I didn’t want to miss our date this Friday.” Kiyoomi looked at him taken back. “You skipped an easy reconnaissance mission. That involved you to wine and dine a target at several club like parties. You're specialty, mind you. To spend time with me?” Kiyoomi asked with a hint of surprisement in his voice. “I’d skip anything just to sit near ya,” smiled Atsumu. “You never cease to amaze me,” said Kiyoomi, a small smile tugging at the corner of his lips.
“What can I say, it’s part of my incredible charm,” smirked Atsumu. “I was talking about you're ego,” Kiyoomi sassed and Atsumu laughed. “Ya can’t fool me. I got ya with that last line,” he smirked. Yet Kiyoomi ignored that comment and took another bite of his meal. “Hey Omi… I heard that ya accepted a transfer to a new department,” said Atsumu. His tone trying to stay chipper yet Kiyoomi could tell it fell flat. “The rumors made it sound worse than it actually is, since it’s all classified. The transfer is simply from fieldwork to interrogation. Despite my top performance in galas and high class events, the higher ups believe I’ll thrive in interrogation. Plus working with someone as competent as Kita would be a delightful change of pace. Especially since Kuroo requested to have that department up for new recruitment. Shirabu is new but can take my place in fieldwork. So I’ll still be an agent, just one across town,” Kiyoomi explained as Atsumu nodded alone.
“Makes sense. Ya are scary when you're mad,” Atsumu replied. “I don’t think I’ll excel however. I heard things can get messy. You know how I am with unnecessary mess,” signed Kiyoomi. “I getcha. But if it makes ya feel better, it’s kinda hot,” grinned Atsumu. “Don’t drool over you're meal, Atsumu,” teased Kiyoomi, rolling his eyes. “Haha you’ve been making me drool since we met,” chuckled Atsumu. “Hm, you and I both know we didn’t see eye to eye when we first met,” said Kiyoomi reaching for his drink. “Nah we are attracted to each other from the start,” smirked Atsumu and Kiyoomi raised an eyebrow. He set the cup down and leaned on his hands. “Atsumu if I remember correctly, which I do, you told you're supervisor-,”
(Flashback)
“This is BULLSHIT! I’ve been working for ya fuckers for 8 years! All that time I’ve never needed a partner! Especially not some gold coin prick,” yelled Atsumu slamming his fist onto Akaashi’s desk. Akaashi signed, adjusting his glasses. “Agent Miya, I already told you, this event needs you to have a date. It will be extremely difficult, not to mention suspicious if you went alone. Plus this is a high profile event, a gala with the wealthiest people in Japan. Not you're usual party or club event. Agent Sakusa is the lead in that. He also can’t do it alone. So I need you both to get alone and play nice,” Akaashi explained with a threatening tone to his voice. “Or what,” snapped Atsumu. “I hear Osamu-san is looking for agents for undercover work… in Siberia,” smirked Akaashi and Atsumu went pale. “Fine… give me the assignment,” grumbled Atsumu.
“I’m so happy you understand. Here’s the file. We’ll send a car for the both of you for 6pm tonight. Your outfits and everything you need will be delivered to you're quarters soon. Dismissed,” smiled Akaashi and Atsumu snatched the file and turned to walk out to see Kiyoomi walking in. Atsumu paused, just standing there as Kiyoomi walked past him. “Ah agent Sakusa. Have you met Agent Atsumu,” replied Akaashi and Atsumu’s looked surprised. “Wait! He’s my date!?,” yelled Atsumu. “I though you knew each other,” asked Akaashi confused. “Well I’ve heard about him and see his name pop up on documents or whatever. I’ve never seen the guy,” said Atsumu glaring at Kiyoomi. “Gold coin agent is what the field agents call the agents like myself that take care of galas and such. Do you ever get tired acting like a child,” asked Kiyoomi in a boring tone. Atsumu could have decked him there and then. The look on his face was obvious, but he just stomped away. Kiyoomi signed turning his attention to Akaashi.
“I’m here for the mission file. I assume we each have our own,” asked Kiyoomi. Akaashi nodded handing over the vanilla envelope. “Go easy on him,” Akaashi smiled. “No,” said Kiyoomi, turning around and walking away. “Fair enough,” said Akaashi watching him leave.
Atsumu stomped down the hallway. Everyone avoiding eye contact from the seething man. It wasn’t till he was in his car that he started to calm down by blasting the radio. After a bit he signed, turned the music down and tore open the envelope. The details of the mission were very simple. Get as much information recorded from the target, get a confession or admission of guilt for the crime, and finally get out without blowing their cover. Seemed easy enough. The target is a rich guy with not so clean money. He was not only the suspect of laundering money but counterfeiting as well. He’s described as an arrogant spoiled brat who thinks, not only is he above the law but that he can enforce his own.
“Looks like a real piece of shit,” said Atsumu, flipping to the party details. That’s where he saw the note reading: He only trusts men in relationships. He has stated “any man who doesn't have a partner over 25 is not worth the coffin he’s buried in. Barely worth the dirt.” Atsumu narrowed his eyes. He’s 27 now, and he’s been single for a long time due to his job. “Fuck you,” he grumbled throwing his car into drive and going home. He got there to see a package already at his doorstep. “The devil works fast but Akaashi works faster,” he grumbled picking it up and going inside. His apartment was clean. Nothing exciting, he was barely ever home. He spent more nights in different hotels for missions than his own bed. The roomba slowly makes its rounds, and the fake plants around the windows, making it seem like someone actually lived here.
Atsumu looked down at the box in his arms. “Alright let’s see what get-up they put me in this time,” he said before setting it down on his table and opening it.
The contents of the box were as followed: a fully tailored white suit, burgundy button up, burgundy shoes, and a dark brown belt. Along with the usual toys for his missions. A voice recorder disguised as an ornate pin, a pack of cigarettes that are laced with a sleep agent, and a hollow pen that kept his lock picking needles.
But then he lifted the suit out a small jewelry box hit the floor confusing Atsumu. “The hell? I already have the pin. What are you,” he asked picking it up and opening it to reveal a wedding band. Atsumu gritted his teeth. “Oh right,” he said, tossing it back in the box.
Meanwhile Kiyoomi also got to his apartment. It was a nice, meticulously cleaned apartment. Everything had a spot and everything was in that spot. While he didn’t believe in electronic cleaning devices, because in his work, they never got everything as clean as he wanted to. He opted to hire an elderly housekeeper once a week who lived in the building. She believed he was just a normal office worker and she did a really good job. Most agents would be very weary of an outsider coming into their space, but Kiyoomi kept everything in perfect order and all of his classified documents never left his work office. The only thing that the Housekeeper could get into if she tried was his laptop that he purely used for reading news articles And the occasional online book. He didn’t even keep anything mission related in the safe that was in his office at home.
Kiyoomi walked into his apartment where his Housekeeper Ano cheerfully waved to him as she was mid dusting and told him that she brought him some leftovers she made for dinner, which he was grateful for because that means you didn’t have to cook. Ano told him a package came for him and it’s in the coat closet, the nice young man put it in there for her. Kiyoomi nodded, he knew Kuroo dropped it off on his way to work.
Once Ano left Kiyoomi took the large box to his home office and opened it. It was the same box and unpacked it. He was a black fully tailored suit, white button up, black belt and black shoes. For his mission gadgets he had a watch that sent a signal to scramble electronics for a short time. Along with a recorder hidden in a pin and a pen containing a sedation needle. The ring box staying closed till mission time.
