Work Text:

“OH CRAP, OH CRAP, OH CRAP!” Shouting could be heard frantically around the house as the sound of shuffling items echoed through the halls of the Nakamuras’.

“I’M GONNA BE LATE!!”

Hirose Nakamura giggled to himself as he cooked breakfast, “I warned him that he would be late.” Hirose quickly scrambled the eggs and began grabbing plates before turning to the table. “Akeru! Why not go help your Papa with whatever he needs? While I go get breakfast ready?”

The small black-haired boy with soft brown eyes nodded and got out of his chair. He climbed the stairs and followed the sounds of his father washing up.

“Papa?” Akeru softly spoke, but just enough to grab the attention of his father.

“Akeru!!!” Nakamura Okuto gleefully smiled, his face full of toothpaste as his son walked toward him.

“Dad asked me to help you get ready, but it looks like you need more than help.” Akeru giggled as Okuto went back to brushing his teeth.

“You’re lucky you’re so cute; otherwise, I would throw you on the bed like usual.”

“Well, what if that’s the plan, Papa?” Akeru walked around his parents' room and began fixing up the bed. “Do you need me to do anything?”

“Yeah, can you get my briefcase ready? There should be some papers that I need to bring to work.

“Okay!” Akeru shouted back as he did what he was told. He found the black leather briefcase as instructed and began organizing it. There, the boy sifted through the papers of his father's notes. A lot of it was utter nonsense to the boy as it had so many scribbles, no pictures, and lots of ‘big-boy’ words he didn’t understand. He did, however, recognize a few key words like “Octobuddy.” Akeru recalled his Papa and Dad would call him their “little octo” a lot, whatever that means.

“I got your briefcase ready, Papa.” Akeru held the rather heavy bag as Nakamura fixed his tie.

“Thank you, Akeru! Awww look at you!” Okuto blushed as he ruffled his son’s hair. “That bag is too big for you, so cuteeee I could just eat you up!!”

“Nooo not again!” Akeru squealed and ran away from his papa, who began chasing him.

“Oh, watch out, Akeru! This Octopus is hungry!!” Nakamura laughed as he chased Akeru down the stairs before scooping him up and planting a million kisses on the young boy.

“Papa, no fair! I was carrying your briefcase; it slowed me down!” Akeru pouted as Nakamura set him down.

“You’re the one who ran away first, Akeru.” Nakamura teased as Hirose clapped his hands.

“Alright, you two goobers, time for breakfast; some of us have children to teach,” Hirose smirked as he walked up to his husband and kissed him on the lips. “You’re looking handsome as always.”

“Y…y…you too, Aki!!” Nakamura blushed wildly as Hirose smiled. “You’re so HANDSOME AND LOVELY, AND I’M THANKFUL TO HAVE A HUSBAND LIKE YOU!” he shouted.

“I should be saying the same thing to you too, Okuto; now come on and eat before it gets cold.”

“Can I have another taste of you...” Nakamura whispered, trying to keep Akeru from hearing him. Thankfully for him, Akeru was already seated in his booster seat and was happily eating.

“Hey, don’t be creepy in front of our son!” Hirose teased while gently slapping his husband's cheek.

“I’M SORRY, I just…love you a lot.” Nakamura looked down and kicked his feet in disgust. “Sorry…”

“I never said I didn’t like it.” Hirose pouted. He looked at his husband with warmth. Despite growing up and getting way taller. Nakamura still acts like his younger self back then. Hirose laughed at the many times Nakamura blushed at him, even though Hirose himself was head over heels for him too.

‘Too cute!’ Hirose thought as he cupped Nakamura’s cheeks and kissed him deeply. He loved this side of his husband, or more so all aspects of his husband. How attentive he is, how sweet he is, how loving he is. Hirose couldn’t be happier.

‘Gahhhh he’s kissing meeee!’ Okuto shouted to himself as he embraced his husband. He gently held his arms around Hirose, as if he was trying not to break such a wonderful piece of artwork that was in front of him.

“Ewwww!” Akeru shouted as he stuck his tongue out at his parents. “You guys are icky; I’m gonna eat your food if you keep doing that.” The boy teased.

“Akeru!” Hirose sarcastically scolded. “We do this all the time!”

“Yeah, and it’s still yucky.” Akeru ate a spoonful of eggs as Nakamura walked toward him.

“I think someone's jealous, Aki!” Okuto smiled as he stared back at Hirose, who smirked.

“I couldn’t agree more, honey.”

“What?” Akeru looked around and noticed too late as his parents kissed him on the cheeks at the same time. “Nooooo stoppp this is so embarrassing, dads!”

The boy tried to protest and push them back, but it was no use against the combined might of them both.

“We love you so much, Akeru!!” They both said in unison.

“Gahh, fine, I love you both too.” Akeru pouted, showing a slight indication he did enjoy the affection.

“Alright, you two.” Hirose clapped yet again. Let’s eat and get ready for the day. “Akeru has a big day today!”

“Oh?” Nakamura asked, “And what could that be?”

“Uh…” Akeru blushed, “It’s…uh…talk about your…” he trailed.

“Your?”

Hirose giggled and ruffled Akeru’s hair. “He wants to talk about his fave-”

“DAD STOPPP I WANNA SAY IT!” Akeru shouted. “It’s about…my favorite role model.”

“Role model?” Okuto pondered. “Oh, you want to talk about how much you like your Dad as a teacher? That’s cute!”

“No, Papa, it’s not him!… Well, I still like Dad a lot.” Akeru fidgeted with his spoon. “It’s just…”

“Just what?” Nakamura wondered. “If it’s not him, then who else?”

“Honey…” Hirose laughed while staring at him.

“What?” Nakamura questioned his family before the dots started to connect.

“OH HE MEANS ME? ARE YOU SURE, AKERU?” Nakamura shouted.

“Yeah…I told Dad about it because I couldn’t decide between the two of you.”

“So,” Hirose interrupted. “I decided it would be better if he talked about how great his Papa the Marine Biologist is, instead of just some teacher like me.”

“YOU’RE NOT JUST SOME TEACHER, AKI!” Nakamura shouted. “YOU’RE AMAZING AND AWESOME AND A PILLAR TO TRAINING THE NEXT GENERATION OF KIDS!”

“Okay, okay, there’s no need to shout.” Hirose giggled as he and Akeru covered their ears. “But you’re right, Okuto. That being said, a lot of my kids will be calling me their role model, and poor Akeru didn’t want to be the same even though I’m always his favorite.”

Akeru blushed and stared at Nakamura, who clenched his chest in response.

‘My family is too cute, I love them so much I could just die!’

“OKAY, AKERU!” Nakamura blurted, “GO AHEAD AND TALK ABOUT HOW GREAT YOUR PAPA IS AND HOW MUCH HE SPENDS HIS TIME TAKING CARE OF THE SEA CREATURES SO THEY CAN LIVE HAPPILY AND HEALTHY LIKE US!”

“Okay, okay, Papa.” Akeru laughed, “I’ll do my best today!”

“THAT’S MY SON!” Nakamura picked up Akeru and squeezed him tightly while showering him with kisses. “You’re gonna make those other kids so jealous!”

“Hey now,” Hirose interrupted, “Save room for me.” Hirose kissed Akeru on the cheek and hugged his family. “Come on, guys, we got our day to look forward to.”

“OH! I FORGOT, I’M ALMOST LATE!” Nakamura quickly set Akeru down and frantically headed out the door.

“Papa, wait!” Akeru shouted, “Your briefcase!” Akeru held up the large bag to his father, who chuckled and grabbed it.

“Thanks, Akeru! By honey, I’ll be home tonight for dinner.”

“Don’t forget your bento-” Hirose shouted as the door shut in front of him. “And he’s gone…” Hirose shook his head and stared at Akeru. “Wanna bother your dad at work during lunch? I can pick you up from class.”

“Uh, huh sure!” Akeru nodded as he grabbed his things. “Are we gonna have another picnic by the aquarium again?”

“Not unless you want your Papa to talk about Octobuddies all day.”

“It’s not a bad thing…I mean you seem to enjoy it a lot.” Akeru giggled.

“Hey!” Hirose laughed as he ruffled Akeru’s hair. Hirose walked back to the table and began cleaning up. He laughed at how quiet it had become ever since his husband left for work. Akeru wasn’t much of a talker like Okuto, but when he does, it’s always full of sass.

‘I wonder who he gets it from? Definitely not me, that’s for sure.’ Hirose looked at his wedding ring, smiled, and gave it a small kiss. The ring that physically symbolized their unity, Hirose laughed and thought about how happy Okuto was when they got married; he wouldn’t stop sobbing. Then again, Hirose couldn’t help himself either. Such a beautiful man…He was glad he fell in love with Nakamura.

“Dad! Do you need any help with the dishes?” Akeru asked as Hirose shook his head.

“No, it’s okay, Ake! I’m almost done; you ready for school?”

“Uh huh! I even have your bag ready too!”

“Aww, how nice.” Hirose took off his apron, grabbed his bag, and opened the door. “Good luck at school today!”

“You too, Dad! I’ll be sure to talk about you too today!”

“I thought you already picked your father?”

Akeru adjusted his bag and gave a small smile. “Yeah, but having to choose between you is evil, so I decided I will talk about you both!”

Hirose felt tears well up in his eyes as his son’s thoughtful gesture touched him. He wiped his eyes and immediately frowned.

“That’s not going to get you out of your chores, young man.”

“Aw man…”
