"Dear Diary"

Summary:

Simon and all the other boys from the island have been rescued and been sent to a boarding school while they wait for their parents to come and retrieve them. Weeks pass and Simon slowly realizes that he and many others won’t be retrieved. The fanfic is written from both Simon’s and Jack’s point of view- through their diaries.

Notes:

This fanfic is based off of the island. Also, for the sake of my mental health, Piggy and Simon are not dead. Each chapter is an entry from Simon’s or Jack’s Diary. I’ll try my best to keep the characters' personalities as canon as possible.

This is my first fanfic, and I genuinely have no idea what I'm doing, but I hope somebody will enjoy my little fanfic nonetheless!

Also, BIIIGGGG thanks to my beta reader!!! ❤❤❤

Chapter Text

(Simon’s pov)

Dear Diary,

It’s been two weeks since we were rescued. Two weeks since we left the island. It seems we’ve all gone back to our usual routines. Though, nothing seems the same.

Immediately after we were rescued, we were sent to the hospital immediately. All the littluns were treated for scratches and various other minor injuries. Jack and Ralph were treated for open wounds and sicknesses. Piggy was treated for a concussion that he had acquired when Roger threw a stone at the back of his head. And I was treated for a stab wound in my left shoulder. Jack had apologized for accidentally stabbing me that night once over the hospital stay. I didn't mind. I knew it was an accident. He surely would never intentionally try to hurt me.

Well, after we were sent to the hospital for our injuries, we were dropped off at a boarding school not far from the airport. The boarding school is nothing compared to the one me and Jack used to go to. It’s rather small and the building must be several years old. The rooms are fine, though they have an awful smell to them. I share a room with Jack. Maurice and Roger have their own room, as well as Ralph and Piggy. And all the littluns are scattered together in different rooms.

Many have come to retrieve their children. Only a couple littluns remain. Most of the choir still remains, as well as Ralph and Piggy. I personally don’t mind that my parents haven't come to retrieve me. I rather like the peace and quiet that the school has to offer. No father to call me names and no mother to hate me. And there’s no quarreling or yelling, except for the occasional moments Jack decides to snap.

Speaking of Jack, he’s been rather nice to me lately. He still seems to ignore me in large crowds, and he drops me whenever he has the opportunity. But, at least he doesn't act the way he did on the island. Ralph has noticed Jack’s softened demeanor as well. He seems to enjoy Jack's company a lot more now. Piggy still keeps his distance, which makes sense. And his minions, Maurice and Roger, are always tailing behind him.

My shoulder has been healing up well. I’ve been wearing a sling for about a week now. The doctors say that I should be able to use it in another week tops. I still faint quite a lot, and falling on the sling hasn’t helped. But it's manageable, nonetheless.

Jack has helped me carry my books and other items since my left hand is out of commission for now. I find it quite sweet that he cares enough to do such a thing, whereas months ago he would've pushed me into a locker instead.

Oh, and I’ve also been going to the church near the school. After we’re finished with work, we get two hours of free time before roll call and bed. I usually use my time to go to church. It’s rather small, but it has a massive glass window that I could stare at for hours. The choir recites in this church nowadays. The songs are different and shorter, but they’re easier to learn. I don’t believe Jack likes the new church or the new songs. He seems rather sour whenever we go for recitals, but he sings just as ethereally as ever.

Well, I ought to go to sleep now. Jack has already yelled at me multiple times to turn the lamp off. I shall update you on whether I am retrieved soon enough. I hope I’m not. Goodbye Diary.

Sincerely,
Simon Cambourne.
