Work Text:
Nicole is one of the people that is not keen on everybody she knows except for the ones she’s been with for most of her life, most could be her own mother that can be a pain sometimes from the past to now, Nicole’s own girlfriend, now wife, Jecka can also be a pain herself and even best friends for even longer, but is soft for her as she’s been with her after knowing how she is around her, alongside Emily, Ari, and everyone she can say and think while only remembering one person she has done the worst for the rest of their life. Megan.
Megan was the main person who was on the brunette’s mind while walking down the city’s sidewalks when it started raining slowly, remembering everything that happened during the play that day that happened in high school, that had Megan traumatized and having her always think of Nicole when seeing other men, and even to this day, still traumatized her with therapy that always avoids her mind when thinking of Megan, but until today, it’s brought back into memory where she’s starting to feel bad for her as she’s terrible of feeling something about someone, but decides to feel about Megan because of years later when seeing it impacted her life.
Nicole has an apology to one of her closer friends. One that she knows that she has done worse to.
“Now that’s done, and all the nonsense from the coworkers... It’s time to finally goof off. Oh wait. I forgot I had my wife waiting for me at home.”
“Hope she’s not worried about me.” Nicole says to herself while thinking of Jecka when going up the stairs into their apartment, which is not the best for what they can afford in D.C., but is the most they can get from after taking and moving into it, which from the sounds of the keys turning, enters in the inside of relaxation and sleep for good ol’ Nicole.
“Welcome home, Nicole. It’s surprising to see you not wet from how it is right now outside.”
“It’s not like it's nothing that I can handle in the meantime.”
Before saying anything else out of her yappable mouth, Jecka hugged her wife in full warmth to silence the day with nothing but kissing, and hugs that will be the pinnacle of what it’ll be for tonight that Nicole wasn’t known about from Jecka until now after she had everything done from dinner being done, to chores all put away and finished, to all that’s left is Nicole that needs to be done.
“Um, what’s up with you, Jecka? Are you ok when I am gone?”
“Yeah, Of course, why wouldn’t I?”
“Cause most of the days before, you either yap the fuck out of my head off when I get back home, or be chilling when I get back to hug and kiss from me.”
“It’s the second option for me, because I wanted the both of us to have one day- no, a whole weekend of us not doing anything to chill and love each other while we’re at it.” Jecka said.
“But why at this time of night when it’s either chore time or some shit that we have?” Nicole replied.
“Nothing to say about that, just come on and stop laundering and lay with me.” Jecka replied back.
“This has to be some dream, but it doesn’t feel like that because of it’s really you doing this and not no doppelgänger or something.”
Nicole was about to sit to a laying position on the couch where she stopped and froze on the couch cushion like a deer in headlights to Jecka that led her having a time in her mind come back to taunt her for today about something she had done years ago in high school to one person she rarely talks to.
One that she had nightmares about before that had her up some times of the night that Jecka comforted her about when talking not much about it to letting it slide for another day, to how it’s the same scene that keeps playing that ending up being the nightmare she had for longer that’s making no more to think about that needed to be let go after realizing who was it about. Megan.
“Why do I have this… same nightmare I have every other night..? It’s like what Jecka had before, but without it being temporary for years…” Nicole says, having it come back on the day that she was supposed to be relaxing, but can’t until this is finished.
“Nicole?? Are you ok?” Jecka snaps her fingers at Nicole to reality.
‘Huh? Y-yeah… I am… No.. I'm not…”
“Do you want to talk about-”
Like someone who had enough of the trauma that was put onto Megan, is now reflecting onto Nicole where she got up from Jecka’s grasp of hugs and grabbed her keys to her car to drive to where Megan is, while not notifying Jecka on what’s going on with her.
“I can’t take this shit anymore, I gotta go-”
“Wait! Nicole! What’s wrong-!” Jecka holding onto the brunette’s arm until it loosens its grasp on her when going out the door.
“Don’t worry, honey. I’m only going to fix something I’ve done. I love you.” Nicole said when closing the door to a confused and worried Jecka that would like to know what emotions or feelings that her wife is feeling on this rainy day, until she thinks about on what Nicole “has done” that would connect to the brunette’s nightmares of her comforting Nicole until she puts the pieces together.
Nicole–! I don’t seem to understand. I thought this would help her from those rough days, and especially her nightmares that she keeps getting..”
“But what could have her be like this if it was something that was years ago that she sorta told me the last time..?”
Sitting back on the couch to an empty two set of plates full of food and no Nicole with her, she decides to put the pieces together to get what she was wondering days, even years before about who or what was bothering Nicole.
“Wait.. she isn’t talking about– Megan?!”
“Was it the play that she had plotted years ago? With Hunter?!” Jecka said, explaining the play that Megan has set up in high school, where Nicole has been the main thing that was happening with Megan and her ex-boyfriend, Hunter who was used by Nicole to get back from Megan, which led to the trauma from her happened after that day, to a staggering years later when therapy wasn’t even working her for her that she decides to let it be, which from Nicole’s side is payback on Megan, but now as a nightmare reflected onto her. (You get the idea from the game, but with new things added lol)
“Come on, Come on! Pick up the phone, you bitch!” Nicole says about Megan not picking up her phone because of her being in the park when it stopped raining because of her having her own time alone, without the brunette blowing up her phone near the waters, which she picked up from the 3rd time.
“Hello? What is it Nicole?”
“I wanna talk to you, Megan. About something.”
“Ok if it nothing serious, or you’re playing something, i’m hanging up—”
“NO DON’T HANG UP! Please! Just listen to what I have to say!” Nicole said.
“Fine. What’s on your mind?” Megan asked.
“Well, first of all, Where are you? Second of all, I want to talk about something that I've done years ago–”
“In the park, hurry up. You can’t miss it.” Megan replied to her location.
“Shit, damn! Alright then, coming at ya!” Nicole said.
While driving through the roads with the thought still in her mind, the brunette found what park Megan was at when seeing the silhouette of her all alone on the bench where she had an umbrella from the rain and some books to keep her company while it drops on her when Nicole got out and quietly went towards the bench that the silhouette hasn’t moved from.
“Uh, Megan..? Is that you?”
“Who the fuck else would it be?”
“Idk, Satan of all people, so what do you want?”
“Well, I wanted to talk to you about something that has got me thinking of you many days of my life.” Nicole says to Megan.
“What do you mean by that? You know you’re with Jecka, right?”
“Why the fuck would I think that? I meant as in my dreams or at any random time when remembering that one time in high school.”
“The only thing I remembered from you from high school was– Wait. You’re here talking to me about how you humiliated me in front of everyone?!” Megan shouts at Nicole out of anger from remembering what she has done to her.
While trying to not make a fuss on who is talking upon who, Nicole was really composing herself as she talks with the distraught Megan what was making her feel bad from how it’s raining where they are at, which makes it an excuse to cause some more raindrops fall from the brunette’s face to see that it has made her more bad where it’s starting to have her weep like a child until she sat down.
Now that the trauma has slowly died down for a few minutes from what Megan sees with Nicole being severely quiet while hearing what she has to say with how it has caused her to be like the victim of everything, knowing that the victim of everything that has been unfolded and told about was the one sitting on the bench.
“Nicole? Are you listening to me?”
“Yeah.. just fully listening to you loud and clear..” Nicole says, while hiding the tears from her face without even looking at her.
“Lift your head up, Nicole.”
“Do I have to–”
“Lift your damn head!”
“Fine!! There! You’re happy, Megan?!” Nicole says, lifting her head to reveal herself crying her own tears with the rain.
“Yes I was a few minutes ago, but now I feel fucking bad now from now seeing you cry and tearing your own self over me–”
“THAT’S BECAUSE OF ME NOT BEING FULLY HONEST WITH HOW I AM WITH MY FEELINGS UPON PEOPLE BECAUSE OF PAST LIFE SITUATIONS THAT I HAD!!”
“CALM DOWN! I HAD THE SAME PROBLEMS AS YOU WHEN I TRIED TO FORGET ABOUT THAT DAY!”
“Ok… ok…”
“Do you need a hug, Nicole?”
“I believe we both need a hug after what just happened…”
“Yeah. Come on.”
After setting their anger out of themselves with each other, they finally decided to say about how Nicole’s actions had impacted and made Megan’s life not a good one for a while after high school.
“So, can we talk about it now..?” Nicole says, wiping her tears and being observant for once for Megan.
-sighs- “yeah, I mean therapy doesn’t help with shit, so I guess i can say what you I have been dealing with the past year or so.”
“And so do I as well, cause Jecka might've not known about the nightmares that I didn’t have before, but now do after I got married to her.”
“Well, it’s mostly because of her not being around when it happened that caused her to know what happened, but not FULLY know what has happened. But anyways..”
As Megan had a whole life ahead of her when being the teacher for all of her students that were in the Performance Arts class and it goes on to where it has Nicole getting payback on what Megan has said to her, which led said her to run out onto the stage crying her whole lungs out for what Nicole has done before the play began, which traumatized her after that day, where she was always remembered every time by Nicole whenever she meets new people, more specifically men that she hangs out with, which is not an option.
Therefore, after the play and later after high school graduation from a little bit of “help” from therapy that was either bad or not good from therapy sessions outside of school, she started to get back on the right path where she has to college in Maryland as a A ranked student, has done all she is done in all of college, and is now seeing someone that she likes even after whole year, she still thinks about Nicole for what she has done, thinking that Nicole has got them for herself, when she only have Jecka with her without anyone else, making sure if Megan was ok, but was not.
After freaking out in front of the man that she was liking more than friends, it has got her back on the wrong path that’s been having nightmares about the same dream all over with her actual dreams at night, which has led over to Nicole’s life having the same thing as well, instead of being traumatized from it, she’s been griefing about how when as a young teenager back then, she’s thought it was for shits giggles for years to come, to see it’s been hurting her that Jecka was worried about her mental health that was severe to almost be ending her own life.
“Which is why.. I wanted to say that I'm..”
“You’re sorry for making me traumatized and destroying my life?”
“I’m apologizing for making you traumatized and destroying your life.”
“That’s still the same thing– You know what, nevermind.. It’s still an apology, so i’ll say, it’s ok.”
“Really, Megan?”
“Yeah. At least I had someone to talk about with, which especially not the one who started it.”
“But hey, we both have our own pain in our times that it’s been going on for a while that is needed to be out.”
“Thanks to God, whoever he is, I’m happy to say that I'm sorry as well.” Megan says as she looked up about God that stopped crying it’s tears of rain and is bringing the moon and clouds showing out in the sky.
“For what? What’s there to apologize to me?”
“For yelling at you, and making you cry as it’s not what it’s usually been before.”
“I guess. It’s ok. I forgive you.”
“And I forgive you too.” Megan says, having her arms wide open.
“Let me guess. Another hug?”
“If you don’t want to, that’s ok.”
“No, no I want another hug from you.”
“Well, here’s a hug. Come on and hug me so we go back to our apartments.”
“Sure thing, Megan. Sure thing.”
After giving them both one last hug after helping themselves hear them both out on what they have heard from each other, they’ve gone out of the park and drove in Nicole’s car with Megan through the aesthetic of the night with the streetlights as the brunette drove to her apartment, saying bye to her until tomorrow for what they have for them, and drove off back to Jecka who was waiting for her to come back after some hours of them talking. And the one thing she can say after that whole fiasco, is that she has lived a life, a Freelife without any more instances from that day.
