Chapter Text
It was a smaller room than the last house Castiel had lived in, But the last house had all of them in it now it was just Castiel, his Dad, and his two brothers. The house was old and brick but it was good enough. Castiel chose the attic for two reasons. It was warm and if you climbed out the window you could sit on the roof and if he could sit on the roof he could smoke weed without his dad or brothers realising. and Castiel would be starting school in about a week. He'd wasted most of his summer on the move and now all he had was a week of freedom. “Castiel I'm going to the store,” His Father Chuck yelled from the floor below “Wait, I want to come,” he hollered down the stairs before grabbing his shoes and running outside to meet his dad in the car. Chuck was starting up the car as Castiel got in. “We're only buying things on the list” Chuck said handing the list to Castiel “ok, sounds good,” he replied, as he was staring out the window at the new town he could reluctantly call home.
They drove into the parking lot and pulled up next to an old black car that looked like it had seen better days. “Now that's a sweet ride," Chuck said as he took the keys out of the ignition. “Yeah, I bet whoever owns that car is pretty damn old,” Castiel replied, stepping onto the pavement. narrowly missing a puddle as he did so. Castiel stood there as his dad admired the car for another few minutes before he dragged him into the store. “Castiel, I need you to go get the eggs and butter,” His dad said before walking off and grabbing a cart.
Castiel tried and failed to find the item his dad sent him to go get. The store was like a maze. “Hey, you need some help, you look lost,” a handsome stranger in a brown leather jacket said as he approached Castiel. “Um yeah I just moved here and I can’t find anything,” he said, admiring the strangers' impossibly green eyes. “Well I was on my way to get some eggs anyway. Come on, I'll show you,” he said as he began walking. “My name's Dean, what's yours?” he said as they finally came to the section with the eggs and butter. “My name is Castiel,” he replied, looking from Dean's eyes to the freckles covering his face like stars in the sky. “Wow. That's a new one” he said, looking at Castiel with a questioning look. “My dad was really interested in biblical names,” Dean looked like he was going over a list in his head. “You got a nickname?” He asked with a look of interest “No, I’ve never been given one” He replied as Dean handed him a carton of eggs. “Well Cas you have you now” He replied with an incredibly charming smile.
“Castiel, I've been looking for you” The familiar sound of Chuck’s voice carrying over the aisle, “sorry Dad I got carried away,” Cas replied as his dad walked up next to him “who’s this?” Chuck asked, pointing to Dean “This is Dean, he was just showing me where the eggs are,” Cas replied, placing the eggs in the cart. “Well, Dean, do you go to school here?” Chuck asked as he went to check an item off the list “Yes, I’m going into my junior year,” he said awkwardly “Oh Castiel is going into his senior year," Chuck said proudly before continuing to look at the list in his hands. “Hey Cas, do you want me to show you around? Considering your new and all,” Dean asked looking hopeful “Yes that would be wonderful” He replied, looking at his Dad before receiving a nod of approval. Dean and Cas walked to the checkout so Dean could buy his eggs before leaving the store, “So which car is yours?” Cas asked, looking at the mostly empty parking lot, “This one's my ride,” Dean said, walking up to the black car from before and unlocking the door and swinging inside in a graceful manner.
Cas walked around and climbed into the passenger seat. The leather was cracked. Cas noticed a box of old cassette tapes in a box in front of him. “Let me guess, you're going to give me shit about the cassette tapes,” he said as he reached into the box and retrieved an album. “No, I actually quite enjoy older types of media. I have a record player that I still need to set up in my room. Maybe you could come over and we could listen to my music sometime?” Cas proposed as he fidgeted with a button on his coat. “That sounds fun, but first I'm going to show you around town,” Dean said as they pulled out of the parking lot. Dean drove onto main street pointing out all the shops and places to eat in a bored tone before driving off onto a side street. “where to next” said dean as he drummed on the wheel on beat to the music. “i’m not sure, you could show me what you do for fun” Cas asked as a look of intrigue crept onto Deans face “Oh i can definitely do that” he replied before sharply turning a corner.
Dean drove them past the borders of town and onto a dirt road “So where are we going?” Cas asked looking out the window at the trees “showing you where me and my friends hang out” he said with a smile before pulling off the road and behind an uprooted tree. “We need to walk from here, you ok with that” dean asked as he got out of the car and opened Cas’s door for him. “Yeah so long as you don't kill me in the woods” Cas joked as he got out of the car “don’t worry i wasn't planning on it” he replied with a chuckle as they began walking down a dirt path with hot pink spray paint X marks on the trees. “The pray paint is courtesy of my friend Charlie because my little brother Sam got lost on the way to the hideout a year ago” he mentioned as they continued to walk down the path. “What do you mean by the hideout” cas asked “so a few years ago me and a bunch of my friends decided to build a hideout in the woods.. And we're here” Dean said as they came to a clearing with a massive oak tree with a tree house in the middle. “Pretty sweet right” Dean said as he pulled a rope that pulled down a ladder we started working on it in 7th grade and finished it early last year” he said with a smile as he began to climb the ladder as Cas followed him up.
Dean unlocked the door and pulled the ladder up before walking in “you coming” he said while gesturing towards the door. Cas walked in as Dean flicked on the lights, threw his jacket on the floor and flopped himself down on an armchair. This place looked nothing like Cas expected. There was a couch, a fridge and from what he could tell, a second floor. “Do you drink?” Dean asked as he got up and walked towards the mini fridge and grabbed 2 beers. “never had the opportunity” Cas said as he plopped himself on the couch “you interested in trying?” Dean questioned as he popped open one of the bottles using a ring “I'll try” Cas said as he accepted the opened bottle.
Dean and Cas were talking about nonsense when Cas heard the sound of the door creaking open as a man walked in. He couldn't have been much older than Cas. He, but it was impossible to tell because of how outdated his clothing was, “Hey, Benny, you're back!” Dean exclaimed as he jumped up to greet the man. “This is Cas, he just moved to town,” Dean said as he gestured towards Cas “Hello, I’m Castiel” he introduced as he shook the strangers hand “benny, it’s a pleasure to meat you” he replied in an accent he couldn't quite place before grabbing a beer for himself and dropping himself into the armchair dean had been sitting in moments prior. “So Cas where did you move from” Benny asked as he popped open his beer and took a swig “i moved from road island” he replied “well that is awfully far from here, what made you move” he spoke “my parents got divorced” Cas responded as he checked his phone “OH SHIT, i should have been home an hour ago” Cas said franticly “Dean can you drive me home?” Cas asked with a pleading look in his eyes, “Yeah, of course lets get going.” Dean replied as he scrambled to get his jacket back on, as the two left, “Bye, you two. And I have a feeling I'll see you again very soon,” Benny said as the two left.
As Cas and Dean got back in the Impala and sped back on the dirt road, “My dad is going to kill me,” Cas said as he ran his hands through his hair, causing it to stick up in every angle possible. “Hey Cas buddy maybe he won’t notice” dean replied attempting to make Cas feel better “i hope” he replied as he saw an incoming call from his dad blare across his phone just as dean pulled into his driveway “thank you so much for showing me around and for the ride” he said “wait i never gave you my number” dean said as Cas was getting out of the car “let me write it down” he said a hint of desperation glinted across his eyes before he took out a recite from the dashboard and wrote it down before handing it to Cas “here Just incase you need anything” he said with a smile. Cas watched as Dean drove off before heading inside.
