Chapter 1: The First Day

Chapter Text

Joshua Hammuel walked up to the entrance of the looming school- his new High-School. He had gone to a completely different Middle School then all of the kids currently talking, catching up even though they were probably hanging out together the day before. He had been here a day before, for half a day of actual school. No surprise, he didn't know anybody in his class, 9-6.

With a sigh, he began walking into the school. For the first module, he had gym class on a Wednesday. Slowly but surely, he began walking towards the gym, atleast where he remembered where it was at. A few kids bumped into him, laughing and catching up, they didn't pay him any attention, nor say sorry for running into his shoulders. Eventually after what felt like forever, he got to his gym class. He saw his gym teacher, Jon, at one of the bleachers telling anyone in 9-6 to go sit in them.

That's where he went, silently and alone, sitting on the orange and blue bleacher seats. When the annoying bell rang, more kids decided to shuffle in late. There was probably 6 or 7 other boys sitting near him. It was apparent to Josh after a few minutes that only a few people knew eachother within his class. Atleast he had a chance to make a few friends perhaps. The gym teacher began calling out names, the first name was "Omar", then after a few people his name was called. After attendance, they were forced to get into groups and finish a "sheet of activities."

Great, so now he had to go into a group with a bunch of people he definitely didn't know. He got up, putting his backpack on the side. Some guy with a beanie on came up to him.

"Hi, my name's Jackson, what's your name?" He spoke, with a small smile that seemed rather too happy. Well, now the inevitable was here, and he'd have to introduce himself to this guy named Jackson.

"Uh, it's Josh.." He said quietly, not wanting to say much on the first day of school atleast.

"Josh, cool, cool. How about you join my group, it can be me, you, Omar, and Seth." Jackson didn't quite give him much choice, instead just rushing off to the other two kids that Josh was guessing was Omar and Seth.

He decided to follow, because who else could Josh possibly go with? Seth was tall, and had a blonde haircut kind of similar to Josh's. Omar wasnt as tall, and wore a red zip up sweater. The two gym classes, Jon, and Alexa, headed outside together. Outside there was a bunch of different games awaiting for them, spike ball, keep the beach ball up, hit a volleyball 10 times with everyone hitting it atleast once, and landing a Frisbee inside a rather small container from a far distance.

Omar and Jackson seemed to be close friends, like they've been friends for a while. Even though Jackson came up to him and introduced himself, maybe he didn't like him. Gym class went by fast, out of everyone in the gym class, Seth was the only one who managed to make the Frisbee into the small container.

9-6's next class was math, and unfortunately they started learning about "Ration numbers and Intergers" which was something nobody wanted to do on the first actual day of school. It went by dreadfully slow, which made Josh upset. Then he realized what was coming up, lunch time. A time where he'd most likely be alone. Thats when everyone whos 'best buddies' decide to hang out and talk about nothing and everything at all. The bell rang, dismissing them from math, and Josh found himself packing up slowly, and walking out slowly. When he walked out of the class, someone was waiting for him. Jackson was standing there, waiting for him. Josh noticed Omar at the end of the hall, staring a bit at them.

"Josh yeah? Wanna come hang out with us for lunch?" Yet again, Jackson didnt give him much choice. Just walking off, expecting him to follow. Which, again, Josh did. "So, got anything intresting about you?"

"Not really?" He answered truthfully, he didnt think there was anything intresting about himself.

"Really? You think so, hm? Well, do you like any sports? Basketball? Volleyball?" Now they were with Omar, walking down the halls.

"I enjoy playing volleyball, basketball, badminton. I don't mind playing most sports." As he spoke it, Jacksons eyes seemed to light up.

"Me too. I mean, I guess you could say I'm pretty athletic. I think so atleast."

"You definitely are," Omar finally spoke up, giving Jackson a small shove. "and your the tuffest person around." The two of them laughed with eachother, and Josh gave a small laugh too, atleast to make it seem like he fit in a bit more then he really did.

__________________________________________________

Omar had been to this school probably about 5 times, but this? This was his first full day with the long 80 minute classes. He met up with Jackson on the way to school, because he liked to hang out with him.

Their first class was gym class, a class the two of them liked the most compared to any other one, and the teachers name was Jon. He seemed rather bulky, and like he worked out tons.

The class started with attendance, which, as usual Omar's name was first. Jackson seemed to be staring at this newer kid, who through attendance, Omar figured his name was Josh. The other gym teacher, Alexa, and her class came over to join them. The teachers began to explain what they were going to do, complete a bunch of different activities, have a few people in your group, win a prize maybe if you complete them all. What they didnt seem to include during that, was the fact there seemed like 100 different activities.

Omar got up, ready to go with Jackson, but Jackson was already running up to this new kid, Josh. He heard snippets of their conversation, but it was mostly introduction and Jackson inviting Josh to be in their group. Omar decided to head outside with Seth, Jackson would catch up to them sooner than later. The activities seemed easy, but there was a bunch of them, and most of them only one group could be doing it at a time. Even with the 80 minute classes, nobody could get this done.

Josh seemed rather athletic as they played keep the volleyball up, but to be honest, anybody could hit a volleyball over the age of 5. Throughout gym, Omar talked with Jackson and Seth, and Josh seemed to keep mostly to himself.

After the rather short feeling 80 minute gym class, came math. It was down a long hallway, and 9-6 shuffled down there quietly. They had met their math teacher the day before, and she seemed nice-ish, but since introductions had been the day before, meant this day was an actual lesson. Nobody wanted that, but nobody could change that.

She handed out a bunch of booklets to them, the booklets were thick, which Omar could hear a groan from Jackson. The unit was Rational Numbers and Intergers, nothing that should be hard for Omar. Omar was a natural prodigy at math. The lesson went by quickly, with everyone still being too scared to start talking infront of the teacher.

Once the bell for lunch rang, Jackson and Omar shuffled out of there as fast as they could. When they got to the door of the class, Jackson suddenly stopped.

"What are you doing?" Omar asked, pausing.

"I'm gonna wait for that new kid, Josh, you going to as well?" Jackson asked, and Omar didn't quite get where his new obsession with this kid came from.

"Uh, I'll wait halfway down the hall." His response earned a nod from Jackson. He went amd waited down there, and goodness, that kid Josh seemed to be taking his sweet time getting out of the classroom.

When he got out of the class, Omar could hear them talking. He couldnt quite hear what they were saying until they caught up to him.

"Really? You think so, hm? Well, do you like any sports? Basketball? Volleyball?" Omar could guess that Jackson was trying to learn some things from his new kid.

"I enjoy playing volleyball, basketball, badminton. I don't mind playing most sports." Josh responded.

"Me too. I mean, I guess you could say I'm pretty athletic. I think so atleast." Jackson had an odd spark in his eyes, which Omar felt himself feeling.. Jealous? He finally decided to get into the conversation.

"You definitely are," *He spoke up, shoving Jackson's shoulder a small shove. "and your the tuffest person around." That finally made Jackson laugh a bit, which Omar laughed in return.
