Book comes out of the closet

Summary:

I posted this on my Needlebook ramble fic but I’m so proud of this that I’m posting it separately!

Book has a secret. Something barely anyone knows about but she’s finally ready to tell her girlfriend, Needle.

Work Text:

Book and Needle. Strange how both of them went from rivals, to friends, and eventually lovers. They both loved each other a lot and trusted each other too. They never kept secrets from each other… at least, that’s what Needle thought. In reality, Book was keeping a big secret from her. Book was great at hiding it with occasionally almost revealing it but it was never a big deal.

Book could feel the growing guilt in her body. She knew it needed to come out soon but she just couldn’t bring herself to do it. Her mind kept going to the worst possible scenarios, always making her back out before she could even call Needle’s name. But today, Book was finally gonna do it. She was going to tell Needle the truth.

What if she gets weirded out? What if she breaks up with me? What if she tells everyone!? What if-

“Book?” Needle gently called out in a curious manner. Book had been acting strange for a while now but it was never a problem to her. Book snapped out of her racing thoughts, slowly turning around to look at Needle. Her palms began sweating and she could feel herself starting to tremble from the mix of fear and anxiety.

It had to be done. It was something Needle needed to know. Book took a deep breath, wiping her sweaty hands and tried to not sound like she was absolutely terrified. “H-Hi Needle,” Book softly spoke out, giving her girlfriend a small wave. “It’s nice seeing you here?”

Needle immediately caught on that Book was definitely hiding something. She rubbed her forehead and let out a sigh of annoyance. “Book, I live here. We live together.” Needle said in a pretty serious tone. She calmed herself down, not wanting to overwhelm Book. “What are you hiding? I thought we agreed no secrets.”

Book started nervously fidgeting with her hands, looking down at the floor in mix of embarrassment and fear. It was now or never. “Okay, fine. I’ve been… hiding something from you for a while now,” she started. Her eyes began tearing up a little bit but she wiped away the tears before Needle could notice.

“I’m… I’m..” Book couldn’t seem to bring herself to say the words. Her mind was still flooded with the worst possible outcomes. “I-I’m transgender…” The words finally left Book’s mouth for the first time. She immediately regretted her decision, more tears forming in her eyes as she began crying.

Needle’s eyes widened in a bit of surprise. She wasn’t expecting that but it didn’t bother her at all. She slowly got closer to Book, wiping away her tears and hugging her tightly. “It’s okay,” Needle softly whispered into Book’s ear while rubbing her back. “I still love you as much as before. I’m glad you found the courage to tell me.”

Book felt her tears start slowing down and her body quit trembling so much. Hearing the words “I still love you” made her feel better by a lot. “I’m sorry I didn’t tell you sooner. I was really scared.” Book said softly, her voice still shaky a little bit. Needle pulled Book up closer, wrapping her arms around her and leaving a soft kiss on the side of her mouth.

“You don’t need to apologize, Book. I’m happy you decided to tell me when you felt ready.” Needle softly spoke. Book started smiling softly, immediately wrapping her arms around Needle more.

“I-I love you so much, Needle.” Book whispered out. She felt Needle wrap an arm around her waist and her other hand softly stroking her hair. “I love you too, Book.”
