Medkit didn't want to go.
For one, he was already buried in so much paperwork and check-ins that he might as well be always stuck in the church as a whole, but also the fact that he was rather annoyed with Broker's presence after having to stitch them up again for the fourth time after nearly getting caught by the Warden of the Banlands.
‘Its nothing but a scratch, Medkit! I'll be fine!’ Said acolyte replied to him when Medkit had to sew their arm back on the other Inphernal.
“...I swear to the spawns that you better have a good reason why you'd drag me out of the clinic for this.” The Healer grumbled out, his right eye twitching in annoyance. They were travelling through a narrow canyon, on the way to the main base, well, church itself.
Scythe clicked her tongue, as she gave them a cheeky grin, “Oh c’mon kit’, it'll be alright! Besides, it's just a typical patrol in the deserts of Lost Temple.”
“Then why am I here then?” Medkit raised a brow, one of his deer ears twitching in curiosity and concern. He better not be going to another deadly mission-
“Eh, well, backup reasons. Besides, ah don't want Broker here to get his threads loose again. You know how he is…” She gestured towards the other Inphernal who was walking at the front, humming a tune that the both of them couldn't figure out the Inpherno where it came from.
“...You've gotta be fucking kidding me.” The Deer inphernal pinched the bridge of his nose, as he sighed, “Fine. But if he gets a single limb unthreaded, he's going to have to sew it back himself or ask someone else. I'm not doing it.”
The Rattlesnake demons smile curved even more, as she tipped her hat to him, “Alrighty. Just make sure to bring a sewing kit for me, eh?”
“...Really?” Medkit looked at them, rolling his eyes and asking them, “Are you sure it isn't just…”
“...Oh, kit, yknow I care about’cha, besides, I ain't letting anythin’ happen to you.” Scythe responded, as Medkit sighed, “...You better bring me lots of coffee after this.”
“Deal.” She laughed, as the Deer inphernal looked away from his…well technically partner? they're just dating, a faint blush tinting his cheeks before his ears perked up to the sound of footsteps. Someone was following them. And Scythe noticed as well.
She slowed her steps, before summoning her gear in a flash of light and shooting out to the distance, hearing a yelp before watching a body fall from above the canyon. The Inphernal who followed them fell to the ground with a crunch, as Medkit gulped as he revulsed from the sound.
“Run!” The Rattlesnake Inphernal screamed at the two, as they hurriedly ran, with a few more inphernals following suit. They seemed to be from the Redcliff Wranglers, what are they doing so close to the territory of the Church-
A bullet narrowly almost hit Medkit's horn as his heart skipped a beat, running through the canyon with Scythe at the middle and Broker at the front, as a few more Wranglers managed to catch speed.
“We need to change direction so we can lose them!” Medkit shouted back, as the rattlesnake demon nodded, “Good thinkin’! Duck!”
She grabbed the back of Broker's collar, as she pulled them to the side once they reached a safe spot to turn, with Medkit pulling out his revolver and shooting at a few of the Wranglers, hitting one of them and diverting the other two away. However, as he was about to turn back and continue running, he heard two gunshots run out, as he winced.
“Come on, let's go!” Scythe hurriedly grabbed the Healers arm and pulled them to safety, eventually managing to lose the Wranglers and get to the Church in time.
As Broker closed the doors, he let out a small laugh as he spoke to the two, who were standing and panting a little, “Looks like we managed to get off their tail! Oh.”
“What is it now?” Medkit grumbled out, as he dropped his revolver and leaned back on a pillar to look at them.
“Your jacket has red spots.”
“Wha…?”
The Deer inphernal looked down to his chest, and to his shock, two red spots were growing rapidly on his stomach and near his heart. He gasped, collapsing down to the floor in a sitting position as he tried to summon his gear.
“Shit- ack…” He winced, as he saw Scythe quickly run up to them in worry, dropping the sly and smug act of hers. Her eyebrows were furrowed, as she spoke, “Hey. Don't waste your energy, keep your eyes open.”
“Broker! Call for help!” She shouted to the other Inphernal, who nodded and ran off. Meanwhile, she took off Medkit's jacket, eventually helping them take off their shirt to inspect the damage.
“...You've been shot, twice. And it's bad.” Scythe used the cloth tied on her neck to cover up one of the wounds, using a spare cloth for the other, “Hold this, keep pressure on it.”
Medkit winced again, as he wheezed out to them, ears pinning back, “...Scythe-”
“Don’t speak! You'll make it worse!” She suddenly shouted back at them, before realising what she did as she sighed, “...just- don't move.”
She closed her eyes, before opening them as she looked up to see Medkit's eye begin to close. He was falling unconscious, the blood was beginning to spread farther than the cloths can handle-
“Hey- Hey! Stay awake!” Scythe looked at them, her rattlesnake tail rattling in alarm as she continued, “Don't you fucking die on me, kit!”
“Broker! Hurry the fuck up!” She yellows out to the corridor, as she heard the rapid footsteps of the other Inphernal and a few more members of the church approaching.
Medkit tried. He really did, but his eye had given up on him already, as he fell to the deep pits of slumber.
The next time that Medkit awoke, it was warm. No, soft, even. Where was he sleeping on? What happened?
“Ow…” He winced in discomfort, fluttering his eyes open as his hands traced on his chest, noticing bandages from underneath the pajamas that were given to him instead of his usual suit.
Right. He was shot. He could've prevented this by healing himself, but he knew he couldn't summon his gear if he was injured. If that was the case then, then who put him here-
“You're awake.”
“Gah-!” The Deer inphernal’s eyes widened in surprise as he turned his head to look at Scythe, sitting on a chair right beside the bed that he was sat up on. She looked like she hadn't slept, however, she was also in a change of clothes, which was…
“Where's your jacket?” He asked, to which she responded back, “Yer blood stained it after I carried you back here to the clinic.”
“...Oh…” He mumbled, as he spoke, “...Thank you, I suppose.”
“You worried me so much back there.” The rattlesnake demon began, as she placed a hand on his cheek, “I thought you'd lose yer life.”
“...Well the universe has an unfortunate take on keeping me alive." Medkit sighed out, as he glanced to them, with Scythe letting out a chuckle, “Mhm…It better stay that way.”
Giving the shorter Inphernal a light kiss on the forehead, she gently settled them back to lie down as she spoke, “Now rest, kit. You're very much gonna stay bedridden for a while.”
“...Alright. As long as I don't have to do more paperwork for the time being..”
