“Ice skating?”
Kai looked up from his spot on the couch watching Jay and Cole play video games together to look at Nya. She had just suggested that the group all goes ice skating together. Kai wouldn’t have expected that from her, but more than that, he was confused as to why she was suggesting it while knowing how terrible Kai is at skating in general.
“Yeah why not!” She answered, taking a seat next to him. “Its a cold day, and it’s close to my ‘aliveiversary’ so I wanted to do something fun.”
It still shocks Kai a bit when she brings that up so casually. Nya’s “aliveiversary” is the day that she came back from turning into the sea. But it was Kai’s idea to begin with to celebrate that day, so it's probably his fault.
“I’d love to go skating!” Jay said, still focused on his game but clearly paying enough attention to eavesdrop. “It’ll be like a double date if Cole comes too.”
“Huh?” Cole asks, clearly not focused on eavesdropping.
Kai sighs. “Nya, you know I suck at skating. Jay’s seen it in action!”
Jay chuckles. “It was really funny.”
Kai gently wacks Jay on the back of his head but he still laughs.
“Please Kai?” Nya says.
“I never said I was opposed to the idea, I’m just saying I'll suck at it.” Kai stands up. “But yeah, why not. We can get lunch afterwards.”
Nya grins and claps her hands in excitement. “Yay!” She grabs Jay’s controller out of his hands and makes him die in game.
“Wha-” Jay is about to protest, but Nya takes his hand and drags him to their room. “Nya what are you doing???”
Kai laughs and sees Cole stand up as well. He turns off the TV and looks at Kai. “So what’s happening?” He asks.
“We’re going ice skating.” Kai says, smiling at his dorky boyfriend.
“Oh heck yeah! I love skating!” Cole smiles.
“Really?” Kai holds Cole's hand and they walk to their room together. “I never really expected that, but I guess I should’ve what with your dancing skills.”
“Well to be fair, I haven't gone ice skating in a while, but I remember having fun when I did.” Cole opens the door to their room and sits on the bed.
“Well I have to get ready.” Kai looks through his dresser for some good clothes. “Could you help me decide babe?”
Cole smiles. “Of course.”

Kai holds onto the rim of the skating rink from the outside, struggling to balance on his skates. Jay and Nya were eager to get on the ice, and they were doing very well. Kai watched them slide across the ice, hand in hand, looking like they were flying. Neither one of them had fallen yet.
“Are you ready hon?” Cole came up next to Kai and put his gloved hand over Kai’s bare hand.
“Not really!” Kai says nervously, looking up at Cole.. “Let's do this!”
Cole chuckles and fully holds onto Kai’s hand. “Don’t worry firefly, I’ve got you.”
Kai smiles at Cole’s nickname for him and he feels more relaxed. However that soon goes away when he barely steps onto the ice. He holds onto the railing with one hand, and holds Cole’s hand with his other.
“Relax, It’s gonna be ok.” Cole says to him, squeezing his hand.
“Easy for you to say.” Kai says, moving slowly. “You’re good at this.”
“I’m okay at best dude,” Cole chuckles and he takes Kai’s other hand in his. Kai immediately loses some balance but Cole being there helps him a bit.
They slowly start to move across the ice together. They aren't nearly as fast or graceful as Nya and Jay, but they are stable, which is better than nothing. Kai is terrible at this, but Cole is helping him, and soon enough Kai only has to hold one of his hands, and he’s able to look up without almost falling. Cole makes sure he’s okay, and keeps him steady.
Eventually Kai is able to let go of Cole and skate on his own. He smiles like a little kid.
“I’m doing it!” He laughs. Nya cheers in the background and Cole is clapping.
Kai slates by himself for a bit. It's not for long, or that good, but he does it nonetheless.
Eventually Kai looks over at Cole. “Am I doing good-”
Kai is cut off by something shoving him to the floor abruptly. He falls on the floor and hits his back a bit, which causes him to wince in pain. Kai opens his eyes to see Cole right above him.
“Wha- Cole what the hell?” Kai exclaims.
Cole giggles, and Kai glares at him.
“Why are you laughing! That hurt!” It didn’t really hurt. Kai was tougher than that and Cole knew.
“Sorry,” Cole says through giggles, not sounding sorry at all. “I just felt like surprising you.”
Cole grins, staring down at him, and Kai has to admit he looks adorable like this.
“That’s clear enough.” Kai says sarcastically.
Cole giggles again. “I love you Kai.”
Kai breaks into a small smile. “I love you too, dummy.”
Cole kisses Kai on the lips and Kai thinks that maybe ice skating wasn't such a bad idea.
