Chapter Text
8:58 pm in the Wheeler's basement after Dustin and Lucas biked back to their respective houses;
"What!? You've never seen Mamma Mia?" Mike yelps towards Will.
"No, I've never really been interested in teen beach movies" Will says shyly. He looks up at Mike to see him staring with his mouth gaping open; he catches himself, making sure not to stare for too long yet still letting himself take peeks.
"Okay, first of all," Mike huffs out, "It is NOT a 'teen beach movie'. I have seen it enough times to know that it is a wonderfully crafted film, with a beautiful longing love story, as well as a sort of finding yourself and getting closure. Not to mention it is entirely based off of the music made by none other than ABBA."
Will lets out a giggle at how serious Mike is being about a movie, but he'll indulge Mike.
"So if I watch this movie with you, will you stop mansplaining it to me?" there's no real bite to his banter, and he hopes that Mike knows that. Just to help his case; Will playfully pushes his shoulder while stifling a laugh.
Mike stares with a wide grin and slight rosiness to the tips of his cheeks. "So you'll watch it?" he questions enthusiastically.
"Oh, I suppose. Maybe it might actually be interesting like you say it is."
Mike grins from ear to ear as he fumbles for the remote. "I promise you wont regret it!"
Will is caught off guard when the movie starts blaring at them despite the moments of peaceful quiet just before.
While the movie gets started, Mike runs upstairs to grab them popcorn and more soda.
"Holy shit, almost three hours of this?" Will mumbles to himself.
Mike comes back down and decides to sit unnecessarily close to Will, causing their knees and shoulders to collide. Will doesn't mention it, or move away.
Mike is glad that when he came back to the basement, he turned the light off; otherwise he is sure that Will would have noticed him not even paying attention to the movie by now.
"Wait, so, is this like a musical or something?" Will questions
Mike snaps out of his trance of starring at Will and seeing how beautiful he looks with the light of the tv highlighting his features (but in a friend way trust)
"What? Oh, yeah, they sing a lot. It's not bad though; you'll get into it later."
Sometime around dancing queen Will and Mike inch closer to each other subconsciously. Until Will starts to doze off; his head dips down onto Mike's shoulder.
Mike looks down at his shoulder and frowns. He knows that Will is tired, but he was hoping that they would at least be able to finish the movie. He powers off the TV and slowly moves the popcorn bowl and can of soda in Will's hand down to the table nearby. Mike takes one last look at Will and smiles before hesitantly reaching up to pull him down to the couch with him.
Mike keeps his hands on Will's back and in his hair despite knowing that he should not be doing this; especially when Will and him are just friends. Right? Would Will tell him if he had felt something else? Would Mike tell Will about these scary feelings he's been having about his best friend? He feels awful for not being able to figure out his feelings, looking up at the unfinished basement ceiling before his eyelids get heavy and he goes to sleep himself.
