Work Text:
The young media mogul, Jonathan Ruskin stared out of the window and soullessly watched the people who passed by on the street before the company building. He knew that he needed to work and take care of his duties with responsibility - but whenever came to his office at the company, it was like his mind was frozen and the only thoughts which were able to get through the ice were related to his father. His beloved father who died so soon and left everything which was currently in front of him to his only son - who was not ready to bear this power, and kept being taken over by the grief.
His father used to be referred to as the King of Media of the country. He owned several newspapers and marketing companies, and during Ruskin's childhood, he kept reminding him that one day, this will all belong to him and he needed to do everything to take care of it the right way.
However, Ruskin was not made to handle this responsibility and influence - it was too much for him. He was always shy and didn't have too much confidence. He tried to please his father and help him in the work to get used to the position, but his father's death came all of a sudden. Ruskin was left alone with a huge wealth and his new position which he hated. It was not only the lack of leadership skills which kept getting in his way, but his own broken heart as well.
Ruskin was very close to his father. They only had each other since Ruskin's mother died when he was just a child. Ruskin worshiped his father and tried to grow up for the job that he wanted him to get. The public thought that Ruskin was really lucky to get such wealth, so much power at such a young age, turning him to be one of the most influential people of the country, but Ruskin only wished for one thing at the start.
To get his father back who takes everything back from him.
Luckily, Ruskin was not alone anymore. After his father's death, he soon started looking for a secretary who could help him manage everything in the company while he gathered himself. The one he chose for the position was a man with curly, white hair and strangely glowing golden eyes called Mr. Milverton. He was the same age as Ruskin's father which gave Ruskin some comfort - though, he knew that his new secretary couldn't be farther from his father even if he dealt with everything almost as well as him. Mr. Milverton had a sharper mind and a more calculating nature and Ruskin could be thankful for the man that he didn't let his business rivals use him as they pleased. Ruskin could trust his skills, but he had doubts in his sense of morals. Despite that, Ruskin grew fond of Mr. Milverton, even if he couldn't completely recall how this fondness even started.
Mr. Milverton was the only person who was able to ease Ruskin's grief whose heart started to beat faster whenever he touched him. First, their fingers only touched by accident, and Ruskin started blushing from it. Ever since then, it seemed like that Mr. Milverton's hand touched him more and more often - but Ruskin also tried to get close to the other man as much as he could. He didn't know the reason behind his wish for more affection, but it somehow began to heal him. Ruskin felt less lonely ever since Mr. Milverton was on his side and he wanted him to always be around him.
Especially now.
This wish was finally able to distract Ruskin from his grieving thoughts. He was ready to reach for the little bell to call in Mr. Milverton from the other room, but before he could do it, the door suddenly opened. Mr. Milverton walked inside in his elegant, confident way and put something down in front of Ruskin.
"Here are a few documents that you need to sign, Mr. Ruskin." He told him, but he stopped when he saw Ruskin's sorrowful expression. "I am sorry to bother you with such a trivial thing. Are you thinking of your late father?" He asked and his voice was gentle and warm. Ruskin wanted to sink into it like into a pillow during the night.
"Yes." Ruskin answered, but he quickly added. "But you didn't bother me. Please, don't go away." He added wishfully before he could stop himself.
A strange light shone up in his secretary's golden eyes. It was a similar light like when he wanted to convince him about something dubious - but at the same time, it was full of softness and care.
"I will stay if you wish, Mr. Ruskin." Mr. Milverton replied and tenderly put his hand down on Ruskin's shoulder. "You are not alone."
Ruskin trembled for the intimate touch. It was a fatherly move, but Ruskin was finally sure that his feelings towards Mr. Milverton was not something someone felt for their parents. It was something different - something forbidden - but Ruskin didn't think about it too much now. He just let his emotions run over him in the knowledge that he loved Mr. Milverton from all his heart.
