Chapter Text
I need to get out of here before somebody catches me sneaking out of my room. I need to run.
***
I’m standing in front of a small house that I know so well like my own home. I hope she’s there.
- Hey Julianne, are you in there? I’m ready for my lesson.
Every week my best friend Julianne teaches me things about power and the outside world because my mother never lets me go out of the castle. She says that the outside world is dangerous, and it isn’t meant for a girl like me, but I think that she just doesn’t want me to be like outsiders.
Suddenly the door opens and I’m pulled into the house. Then I hear the door shut behind me. I look around looking for my best friend. Then I see her with her pink, curly hair.
- Hey Dawn, ready for the lesson?
- Yup, I’m ready.
- Okay – she starts – Last week I told you about power and how you can know who has what power.
- Wait what power does your…
- We don’t talk about that till I am ready to give you that information. Okay let’s start. First, I’ll tell you about…
I don’t get it. Why doesn’t she talk about her brother? Is there something I shouldn’t need to know? What is she…
- Dawn? Dawn? Dawn? Are you listening? Did you hear what I just said?
Damn it! What did she just say? – Sorry can you repeat what you just said?
- Ugh, you never listen! Okay, I’ll repeat what I just said but don’t you dare not listen to me again. Okay?
- Okay.
- So, as I was saying that there are people with gray hair that don’t have any powers and they usually live in small sheds because nobody is ready to accept them. There are also people with black hair. They can control shadows. That is one of the best powers.
Hm… if black is darkness does that mean that white is light since it’s the opposite – What power does a person have if they have white hair? Is it some kind of snow power or is it something more lighter?
She starts to laugh and when she stops laughing, she says – No. No. They don’t have any snow power. They have one of the strongest powers too. You could say that it’s a soul taker.
- Wait so what does my hair color mean?
- I don’t know. Your hair is…
Suddenly we hear somebody knocking on the door.
- Quickly go to the back door and get out!
- Wait but why?
- Don’t ask questions, just go!
I run out of her house and continue running to the castle as fast as I can. Only when I’m near the castle I stop and realize that it’s almost morning.
I need to get into my room. I run inside the castle and continue running to my room. I need to take the last right turn but suddenly I hear people talking. I look around the corner and see two people standing in front of my door.
I hope they won’t find out that I’m not in my room. Who could they be? I can’t really see their faces. I guess I just need to wait for them to go away but at least I can listen to their conversation. It isn’t like I have a choice.
- …I still love her.
- That’s really good. You’ re a perfect match with her.
I recognize that voice. It seems familiar. It sounds like… my mom!
- Will you tell Dawn the truth about… well everything?
Wait isn’t that my boyfriend Keith? Why is he talking to my mother and about what truth is he talking about?
- No, not yet. I still need time.
- You had 20 years!
- I need the right time!
- Okay… your majesty.
He says that and goes away in the opposite direction where I am is.
I look around the corner again and see my mom.
She looks angry.
- They are always out of patience.
She starts coming straight to the direction where I’m standing.
- Oh shit! I need to get out of here.
I run back from where I came from to find the other hallway that also leads me to my room.
She can’t see me or I’ll be in big trouble.
