ARC 1
BLÜDHAVEN'S BRIGHTEST PROBLEM
====================
Nightwing hated surprises.
Unfortunately, Blüdhaven loved them.
The police scanner crackled in his ear as he swung between buildings.
"Multiple reports of bright lights near the harbor."
"Possible meta-human involvement."
Dick sighed.
Of course.
Because apparently criminals, corruption, and sleep deprivation weren't enough.
He changed direction and headed toward the harbor.
A bright flash lit up the night sky.
Blue.
Silver.
Almost beautiful.
Almost.
When Nightwing landed on a nearby rooftop, he finally saw the source.
A woman stood at the edge of the building.
Long hair moving with the wind.
Stars seemed to shimmer beneath her skin.
The night itself glowed around her.
For a moment, Dick almost forgot why he was there.
Then he remembered the reports.
Unknown meta.
Massive power.
Potential threat.
Great.
"Nice view?" he called.
She didn't turn around.
"You're loud."
Dick blinked.
"Most people say hello first."
"Most people don't stalk rooftops in bright blue spandex."
He looked down at his suit.
"Okay, rude."
Finally, she turned.
And for one second...
Nightwing understood why half the city was already talking about her.
Confident.
Beautiful.
Completely unimpressed by him.
The last one hurt a little.
"Nightwing," he introduced.
She looked him up and down.
"Should that mean something to me?"
His soul left his body.
"Wow."
"That bad?"
"Worse."
Before he could continue, she stepped backward toward the edge.
Nightwing immediately moved.
Fast.
Too fast.
He grabbed for her arm.
Instinct.
Training.
Years of preventing people from falling.
A terrible decision.
The moment his hand touched her wrist, starlight exploded around them.
The rooftop shook.
Dick was launched backward.
Straight through a water tower.
CRASH.
Water poured everywhere.
Nightwing lay in the wreckage.
Drenched.
Humiliated.
His head hurt.
His pride hurt more.
Above him, she stared.
Then laughed.
Actually laughed.
"You attacked me first."
Nightwing pointed a finger.
"You looked suspicious."
"You threw a stick at me."
"That's not the point."
"It feels like the point."
The woman smiled.
A bright silver glow surrounded her feet.
Then she rose into the air.
Nightwing sat up immediately.
"Wait."
She tilted her head.
"What?"
"What's your name?"
For a moment she seemed to consider it.
Then she smirked.
"Get better instincts."
And vanished into the night.
Nightwing stared at the empty sky.
Water dripped from his hair.
His suit was ruined.
His dignity was gone.
Somewhere in the distance, he heard police sirens.
Dick groaned.
Blüdhaven had officially become more complicated.
And he didn't even know her name.
To Be Continued...
