Work Text:
Izuku walked beside his mum, Inko. She had promised, more like forced, Izuku a treat. A nice fancy dinner with his favourite food, and a gift, She grinned to herself. Her poor baby had been working so hard, and been through so much with UA already, it was only his first year.
She smiled up at Izuku, he was becoming so strong right in front of her eyes.
"Mum!" Izuku called her for the fifth time. as she and Izuku fell over, hitting the ground side by side. The person who fell into them slowly stood up, only for his face to go pale and freeze.
"Are you ok sir? what's going on?" Izuku stands up quickly, already at the mans side.
"I—uh I think I used my quirk on you both…I am so sorry." He rambled some more rattling off his quirk and how long it lasts, only a day, before rushing off, hiding his face in embarrassment.
The pair stayed silent for a moment before Izuku began to panic. His mother has One for all. Inko Midoriya has One For All. He turned back to his mum who looked a little afraid.
When Izuku used his quirk first his bones broke. Maybe she should avoid using this. Inko felt a small tug in her body when Izuku reached out for her, his hand find her shoulder sooner than it should have.
"Can…we go home?" He managed to get out, trying to think of reasons or how to explain to his mum about this quirk. Oh god what if she turns up in his dreams now, the way All Might's vestige does. What if she sees the other ghosts, what if she find it all out because of an accident? "What about our—?" She attempted to speak before seeing Izuku's face, slightly pale and shaky.
"Alright…" She grabs his arm and started pull her son towards the way they came, back into the car they had come in.
Izuku got into the back seat his mind racing.
He had his mums quirk. Is this is? What it could have been like to be born with a quirk? Would he have had this one? What could have happened. What if the secret of One for all is spilled? What if everything goes wrong?
He looked down at his palm. his green curls falling down around his face. He has a quirk, the same quirk he had wanted from the beginning. The same quirk he watched his mum use over and over. The one that pulled him up into his mothers arms, or dragged him away from something dangerous. The quirk he had grown up around. Right here, with him. Inko got out of the now parked car, automatically making a motion with her hand, the one she'd use with her quirk to shut the car door. She sighed, almost embarrassed at the action before shutting it herself. She smiled softly at Izuku, watching how he looked into his hand, how he looked at her. Worry, lots of worry. He looked like he would burst out in tears any second. She wrapped her hand around his, giving it a small squeeze in hopes of comforting him.
She smiled a little as she got into the lift with him, heading up to their floor, getting up there and opening their front door. Locking it behind them both she walked to the kitchen.
"What do you want for Dinner, Izuku?"
"Anything is fine…" He mumbled, heading to his room quickly. shutting the door a flopping onto his bed.
This is what it could have been like. With a quirk he was born with.
However, without it. Without it he met All Might, without it he met and saved so many people. He wouldn't have been able to save Eri the same way, it at all.
Without it, could he have saved Bakugou in Kamino ward? Would he have been able to reach him before he was dragged through the portal?
Would he have been able to save Kacchan from the sludge monster? What about—
Inko yelped loudly, Izuku's door swinging open so fast she though it would break.
"Are you ok? Why did you scream?" Izuku was already by her side.
"No no it's alright, I just…thought I saw something is all."
Izuku nodded slowly and walked back to his room, his breath evening out of the small panic she had given him.
She turned back around to the crowd of ghost and one that looked like yellow fire, though somehow despite the face being hard to recognise full she knew it was All Might. The others she did not recognise, the woman was oddly familiar an old hero she must have known.
"Now, who the hell are you." She said sternly at the group, who looked little little children about to be told off.
"Nana Shimura." The woman said calmly, stepping close to Inko, "We uh…are apart of your sons quirk…" She said carefully, trying to put a hand on Inko's shoulder only to pass right through her.
"Part of his quirk? Part of my sons quirk?" She sighed, looking the the group again. "Is that All Might?" She asked, quietly.
"Yagi? Yeah, he's one of us." Banjo said calmly, an arm reaching up and attempting to to wrap its way around Yagi's shoulders, falling just short. He grinned and leaned into Toshinori anyway.
Inko's mouth opened, before shutting again, only to open seconds later.
"Why is All Might part of my sons quirk? How is he part of my sons quirk?" She asked confused, pressing a hand to her forehead.
"It's a special quirk, uh one that passed down." Yoichi said quietly, leaning into Yagi's other side. "It's a little hard to explain, but Yagi passed it down to Midoriya." He said carefully.
The group nodded, kudo and Bruce looking away, ignoring the conversation happening.
Inko sighed, walking to her room and shutting the door. She pressed he face into her palms, taking deep breathes. "He was so happy to get this. To finally have a quirk…after what the doctor said I thought—" She held back tears, looking the group that had followed her, he eyes finding All Might's.
"Can he hear us?" She asked, walking over to the vestige, attempting to touch his arm only to pass right though.
"No, Toshinori doesn't have the same connection to the quirk your son has. He has only seen us when he was younger, I doubt he knows we even exist on this way." Nana said softly, watching Inko carefully.
"I am Nana Shimura, the seventh user of one for all." She then pointed to each ghost, telling Inko their names and in what order they gained the quirk.
Inko sat down carefully, taking deep breaths. "You gave my boy hope…his dream." She smiled only to remember everything he had been through at UA.
She couldn't be angry at them, but she didn't like this…the idea he could get targeted for such a rare and special quirk, that is why he didn't tell her surely. Didn't he trust her?
"It was named one for all, because the Villain All For One wants it. It was made to stop him." Yoichi stated again, sitting beside her.
"It's a burden we all carry." En talked for the first time, looking down at her, "Your son is very brave."
Inko nodded slowly, thinking about the pressure Izuku must have on himself. Even if All For One is in jail, thanks to All Might. Izuku has only ever wanted to be a hero.
She slowly stood up, walking Towards Izuku's room.
A small crash came from inside where Izuku had started trying to pull small items from his desk, he smiled widely, as he did. Inko knocked at the door and Izuku used her quirk to pull it open, somehow getting use to using it already.
She smiled and sat beside him. Pulling him into a hug, and whispering quietly.
"I'll keep the secret safe, one of all is our burden, not just yours." She began to cry softly, holding him tightly. "I am so glad, so so glad you get to be a hero, Izuku. Please, just promise you'll be safe."
Izuku sat in shock for a moment before hugging her back tightly, pressing his head into her shoulder. "I promise mum. How did you—?"
"The ghosts told me, they said you're brave, so brave." She smiled, "You've always been my hero Izuku." She kissed his forehead, tears running down her cheek. "You must be safe, promise me, Izuku."
"I promise! I promise!" He smiled softly.
