Tahani wiped away the sweat from her temple, she breathed heavily. It’s been quite a long day for Tahani as a popstar. Tahani enjoyed writing songs and singing them in her concerts, it thrilled her. The crowd would cheer endlessly, their hands in the air. They cheered for her.
It was the first time nobody mentioned Kamilah’s name. Tahani should have felt relieved for that, but she only felt anxious. Tahani felt like an imposter trying to mimic Kamilah, her perfect sister. Tahani was just a cheap knock off on the shelf of a dollar store. Tahani didn’t deserve the praise.
Tahani decided to relax in her green room for a while. She laid down on her perfectly curated couch, a dramatic hand on her forehead. She shut her eyes, her mind overwhelmed with thoughts.
“Hey, Tahani!”
Tahani jumped up with wide eyes. She looked in front of her to see a familiar face.
“Jason! You frightened me!” Tahani frowned with a slight pout.
Jason gazed at Tahani with a guilty expression. “I’m sorry, I just wanted to see you.”
Tahani ignored Jason’s statement, a soft flush on her cheeks. “You’re not allowed to be in here, Jason.”
“There were no scary bodyguards in front of your door, so I just swooped inside! No biggie.” Jason exclaimed with a big grin.
Tahani sighed, she knew she couldn’t win on this with Jason. That was mostly due to the fact that Jason was oblivious.
“Fine then, sit on here.” Tahani sat on her couch and patted the extra space for Jason.
Jason sat down with a smile. “I wrote something for you, it’s fan mail!”
Tahani looked at Jason with bewilderment. “You’re a fan of me?”
Jason nodded with vigour, his eyes filled with excitement. “Just read it!”
Jason passed the letter to Tahani, who took it without question. She examined the envelope to see many stickers on it. They were adorable. She opened it and read it her mind.
Hello, Tahani! I’m Jason, your number 2 fan in the entire afterlife! Number 1 goes to Jaguars, no hard feelings.
You are an amazing singer, you look so cool on stage! I wish I was appreciated when I was a DJ. You achieved my dream of being famous, and I’m very happy for you.
Please don’t give up on singing, you’re the absolute best!
Love, Jason Mendoza
Tahani didn’t speak, the room was quiet. The words were simple, but they were endearing regardless. Tahani’s heart fluttered and her cheeks warmed up into the colour pink.
Jason played with his fingers. “Did you like it? I got Janet to correct my spelling mistakes.”
Tahani pulled Jason into a hug. She embraced him with a grateful smile, and she nuzzled into his neck.
“I loved it.” Tahani replied earnestly.
After a moment of warmness, Tahani had let go of Jason. Jason was confused but pleased. That wasn’t enough. Tahani leaned in and gave Jason a kiss on his cheek. Jason felt the sensation of Tahani’s soft lips, and it made him shudder.
Jason had lipstick on his cheek, and it made Tahani giggle.
Tahani took out her handkerchief with a plan to dab it off. “Would you like me to remove that for you?”
Jason gently pushed the handkerchief away. “No thank you. I’ll walk around so people knew you kissed me.”
Tahani couldn’t contain her laughter. She laughed until she felt weak, and wiped away a tear from her eye. Was it because of her laughing fit from before, or the emotions that Jason gave Tahani in his letter? Tahani doesn’t know. All she could think about was Jason. Her head laid on Jason’s shoulder. Jason moved around as Tahani’s hair was ticklish.
“Do you want to get frozen yoghurt?” Jason asked as he held Tahani’s hand.
Tahani wasn’t a fan of the frozen yoghurt in town, but she didn’t want to disappoint Jason. It would taste better to have it with Jason by her side.
“I would. Let’s go.” Tahani smiled as she stood.
Their hands never let go of each other as they walked to the nearest frozen yoghurt place. Tahani ordered strawberry with no toppings, while Jason had the flavour of everything great in the entire world with an outrageous amount of gummy worms coated with sugar. As Tahani ate her yoghurt, she listened to Jason blabber about whatever interested him. Suddenly, being a popstar didn’t feel as bad to Tahani as it used to.
