Chapter Text
Supzec wandered through the oak forest. Sun beamed on his skin, a light breeze satiating the heat.
Why was he walking in a forest?
He couldn't fucking tell you.
He'd been endlessly and aimlessly searching for his best friend. It's been weeks and he hasn't heard a word from him. He didn't want to believe the worst case scenario, but how could he not? Village from village, person to person, he hadn't heard anything about Evourai.
Which is a record in itself, Supzec chuckled. Evo seemed to always leave a trail wherever he went; a bigger trail when Supzec was with him.
He felt a little uncomfortable moving around by himself with no one to back him up. He's gotten into fights on his weeks long journey, thankfully no serious injuries, but it made him unsettled.
It would be nice to have his friend back.
He's probably dead.. isn't he.
Supzec stopped and sat down in the grass.
No word of mouth? The last time he saw Evo was when he was with Death.
He tried to play off the situation with a joking tone, but it seemed to do him no good. He was teleported away, some dark room that made his head spin as he paced.
And paced.
He had nothing to do in that room, other than walk and sleep. He refused to stay still the whole time since that would only worsen his blood flow so he did a lot of walking.
In circles.
With no food.
No water.
But it seemed he didn't need it?
The room seemed to keep him alive, at least until he left. He felt awful as soon as he woke up out of the room; he made his way to the village after that.
No Evo with him.
What if Death killed him?
Supzec didn't understand what was wrong with Death, he just thought it was some dumbass name for someone trying to be cool.
When Evo appeared in that parkour room however, he looked utterly terrified.
He’d gripped his shoulders, shaking him, his arms trembling, his eyes wild.
Why did he try to play it off?
He could've tried to do something differently.
Supzec hit the back of head against the tree, the unsureness eating at him.
He shouldn't have played it off.
He fixed his hair, refusing to give in to regret just yet.
He could still be alive.
A slim chance, but he could still be alive.
He had to hold on to that last bit of hope.
He stood up again, turning to continue walking when a figure in front of him appeared.
The one he saw put him in that room.
The one Evo was terrified about.
The man was tall, a few inches taller than him with a swirling purple gaze. His cuffs were illuminating his dark suit, small eyes poking through from under his hair.
Supzec stepped back, moving his gaze away from Death.
“Hello Supzec. What are you doing all the way out here? By yourself nonetheless?” Death cocked his head.
“I'm looking for my friend. The one you took.” Supzec raised his gaze, pointed at Death. “I didn't take him–”
“You quite literally kidnapped us both.”
Death pushed his shoulder down, his cold hand gripping Supzec's skin.
“You talk too much.” Death grumbled in annoyance. He reached into his pocket.
“Well maybe I wouldn't talk as much if you gave me an answer–”
Supzec froze.
Death held a headband in his hand.
A blue one.
He stepped back.
“Here. Take it. I figured you would want it.” Death shook his hand, the blue fabric dirty and tainted with red.
For the first time in a while, Supzec was speechless.
Death sighed, pushing the piece of fabric to his chest and let go. Supzec managed to grab it before it hit the ground and gripped it tight.
He examined it, hoping it was a fake, hoping this wasn't real.
This isn't Evo’s, this isn't Evo’s, this isn't Evo’s.
“D-did you–”
“Kill him? I wish. I watched it happen though.”
Supzec’s heart dropped with the last bit of hope he had.
“Y-you have to be lying.”
“Now why would I lie?” Death asked.
Supzec didn't know. He didn't know enough about Death to tell if he was lying to him or not. He couldn't even analyze Death’s face without feeling queasy.
“This can't be–”
“It's his.”
Supzec stared at the fabric.
“No more snarky comments? I'll be on my way then.” Death disappeared in a flash, leaving Supzec to stare at the headband in his hands.
This couldn't be Evo’s.
He refused to put two and two together.
He stared at the crimson soaked and dry in the fabric, his sharp clawed hands slightly tearing it with his grip. He panted, releasing his tense hand.
He didn't want to destroy this.
If this was really Evo’s..
It can't be.
He can't be dead.
Supzec wanted to believe his friend was alive, but this only cemented it for him.
Evo did die.
Evo died and he wasn't there to keep him company.
Evo died to that fucking maniac. The one who played with life and death like a game. He heard Death say he didn't kill him, but he WATCHED. That was enough.
He was going to find that son of a–
He almost ripped the headband.
He panted, taking in a deep breath, small tears welling up in his eyes. He loosened it again, continuing to stare at the fabric.
At least he had closure..?
He let out a gutteral yell.
He didn't want his friend dead.
He couldn't be dead right?
He didn't see it.
For all he knew, Death could be lying to him.
Supzec focused his teary eyes again, noticing he tied the headband around his wrist.
He sounded insane.
Evo’s last remnant was right in his face.
His heart felt heavy with grief.
They'd survived the four Council members; to hell and back in the End.
And in the end, he died when he was forced away from his grasp.
Supzec stood on shaky legs, walking forward as if on autopilot, focusing on the headband around his wrist. The fabric lightly blew in the wind.
He knew this wasn't good.
He was in a dangerous world, one full of bloodthirsty, manipulative, violent people. He was a sitting duck right now with his eyes locked on the headband.
He couldn't help himself.
He couldn't look away.
—
A few days have passed, Supzec made his way to Evourai’s old house, sighing as he opened the door to the home.
The wood creaked, the room smelling musty and cold, cobwebs littering the corners. All the lights remained off.
Supzec stepped inside, examining the walls, distracting himself as he cleaned the cobwebs off the walls, dusting off the cabinets and tables.
It was deadly quiet.
As Supzec worked, his breathing slowly escalated. It felt weird in this silent house. He's only been here a few times, but every one Evo was smiling with glee, laughter filling the enclosed house. The windows always glowed with the lights on at night, but now it was dark.
Desolate.
Silent.
His hand slipped with the duster when his eyes came in contact with Evo’s closed bedroom door.
He backed up, running out the door into the sun, huffing and panting. He kneeled down in the grass, dragging his hand through his hair. He pulled out his trident, tracing the metal soon after.
“Get yourself together Supzec.” He mumbled to himself, rubbing his face.
The blue handkerchief remained tied around his wrist. He didn't even realize it was still there and he hadn't cleaned it.
What was he thinking? This was the last thing he had of Evo, why would he wash it away.
Shaky breaths.
Evo wouldn't want to see him like this.
He managed to calm his breathing, continuing to trace his trident in the grass.
Lucky trident.
He chuckled.
Lucky my–
“Supzec.”
He jumped out of his skin, his hands shaking as he fumbled to grab his trident. His heterochromia eyes met the figure’s.
Invisible, but standing on a tree, looking down at him. Darker blue trims were engraved in his armour; Supzec could feel the stare in his eyes, even without seeing the person’s face.
He cleared his throat, forcing himself up, pointing his trident at the anonymous player.
“Who are you?” He demanded, the weakness in his voice still apparent. He needed to focus.
The figure stood still, almost…
Glad? To see him?
At least that’s what Supzec could tell with the person’s stance until it stiffened.
“I need you to come with me.”
“Now, why would I be stupid enough to do that?” Supzec chuckled, his normal tone returning.
“Because I'm the one who killed Evo.”
Supzec froze, holding his breath.
Evo's killer.. right in front of him?
His blood boiled and he held his trident in a death grip. He took a deep breath, holding the hand with the headband around his wrist to his chest.
“Y-you killed him..?”
The invisible person slowly nodded.
“Why did you kill him?! What did he do to you?! I've never seen you before, but I'm sure it never warranted a killing?!” Supzec exclaimed, shaking with anger.
“I had to.”
Supzec scoffed.
“You didn't have to do SHIT. Yet you did!” He laughed, his knuckles white against his trident. He knew grief was sensitive, he's lost people in the past but this was new.
He was never this angry.
“I'm not going to fight you. I just want you to follow me.”
Supzec climbed the tree, using his trident as a grip. He needed this person to die. They killed Evo, his one real companion left, for no reason.
Supzec didn't understand. He never lost control of his emotions like this. He was normally a lighthearted guy, laughing and joking. This.. fury was alien to him, and he couldn't seem to pull it back and take a second to think.
He made his way to the branch the person was standing on and grabbed their ankle. He pulled them out of the tree, the person landing on the ground.
“I want you dead, do you understand that?!” Supzec seethed, following them back to the ground.
The person winced slightly, but Supzec couldn't clear the clouds of anger to notice.
“I have no reason to fight you.”
“You had no reason to kill Evourai and yet you did!” Supzec ran forward, his trident in hand.
He would make this person, whoever it was, pay.
He would kill them himself, for Evo.
He wouldn’t let Evo’s life be a waste, because it wasn't.
This–
Glass shattered against his skin once he was close enough.
“I don't want to fight you, just protect you.”
Supzec’s grip went slack as he dropped his trident, a sweet metallic smell going through his nose. His clouds of anger evaporated, but his trains of thought were shattered.
His eyes blinked slowly as he landed on his knees, exhaustion pulling him down.
“Why..? I.. don't need.. protecting..” Supzec mumbled, falling on his side. His vision blurred when he felt someone pick him up over their shoulder.
“I'm sorry. I didn't want you fighting me.”
“Sorry.. for what asshole. If you were.. sorry you shouldn't… have splashed me with… weakness.. you… shouldn't have killed.. him.” Supzec mumbled, trying to raise his hand to push it out of the person's grip but it was too heavy.
“Where…”
“Somewhere safe. Just for you.”
Supzec closed his foggy eyes, asleep.
