Work Text:

Parrot lands his face flat on the pristine state of his mattress. His exhaustion, so palpable, he does not even bother to rid his outdoor garments anymore. He proceeds to sink into the soft, plush pillows, lost in his plethora of thoughts, until he would then hear the familiar call for his name from none other than his roommate-slash-boyfriend, Wifies.

Before they even got to their current status, they were the best of friends who agreed on living together in a conjoined dorm as it would be more wise to cut back on their expenses whilst they manage their daily living costs throughout college. Although, the title of them being friends was merely a cover up for their ever-growing feelings towards one another that cannot be described as near platonic. Their conspicuous pining has not gone unnoticed by their friends within the same time period which led to an inevitable confession being slipped on one of their half-conscious ramblings on a Saturday night as they filtered through their cans of beer. It has been nearly two months since then.

Current Parrot was swarmed with an absurd amount of college work and a presentation yet to pass for the next week that will accumulate most of his grades. He badly needs this semester to end. This alluded to conflicting schedules in his career of being a content creator. He would rush through his assigned tasks just to make it in time for the scheduled dates of his video recordings with other creators more often than not. Time management wasn't a strong suit of his when his head is filled to the brim of overlapping thoughts all around.

He needs a break. A break he’d preferably spend with a certain special someone, far away from the internet and from his academic persona. Both Wifies and Parrot barely had the spare time to spend it with one another these past few grueling days.

He lets another loud sigh escape his lungs.

Minutes pass by as a mentally exhausted Parrot fades in and out of consciousness, swimming in the haze of memories with a certain brunette being a prominent figure. He then starts to question why he still hasn’t heard anything from Wifies. He’d usually check for him at this hour. What time is it even?

His heavy body negates his response to rise from the comfort of his sheets, but his desire to sense even a glimpse of his boyfriend overpowered the fatigue thrumming in his bones. He dreadfully misses him. He misses that saccharine smile that warms something inside of him. The single dimple on his left cheek that sweeps him off his feet. The whiff of lavender in their shared space. He misses the deep rumble of his voice that lulls him to slumber.

Parrot uses the last remains of energy within his muscles to sit himself upright and finally get off the enticing mattress.

His vision dances with grainy speckles of dots obstructing his line of sight. Fuck, he got up too fast. Nevertheless, his mission encourages him to saunter his way out of his room and makes his way to Wifies. He usually sees him by their kitchen after his classes, being pestered by his gluttonous cat, Angel. Either that or he’s holed himself up in his room, most probably working on a video idea or collaborating with another creator to, quote unquote, “please the fans.”

Unlike Parrot, he has less restriction due to his inconsistent upload schedule. Parrot has to plan his videos and record in the same week’s timeframe that will be edited and uploaded by no less than a fortnight thereafter. Or else he’ll hear the raucous marching of incessant complaints from kids asking when he’s uploading and he’ll be burned by the stakes if he does not comply with their demands. At least his three other friends working on the same project are stuck in the same predicament.

His head begins to pound harshly, a persistent knocking on his skull that would only cancel out if he were to be pulled by a stronger force that is Wifies.

His lashes flutter on his cheek as he attempts to blink himself awake and relieve the static in his limbs, his feet absent-mindedly walking to a familiar path. He makes his way past their kitchen, only to not see Wifies. His frown deepens even further and redirects his destination in doing so. Why did their rooms have to be across from the other?

At last, he arrives at the door and his hands presumably reach for the handle to open it.

“-fies? Wifies?”

The creak seems to alert the person inside the room.

“Parrot?” Wifies echoed his name with that soothing voice that Parrot’s ears longed to hear after hours of trying to collect himself as the rigid gears in his head overworked themselves. The warmth in his chest swells with content.

Wifies takes off his headphones and turns his attention away from his computer to observe the state of the hunched figure at the door, visibly distressed.

“Woah, woah. You look like you’re about to drop any second now. Come here,” he instructs as he gestures on his lap.

Parrot makes his way to his desk and Wifies opens his arms for Parrot, who in turn, immediately slumps his body onto Wifies. Finally, he can breathe again.

The brunette takes off his blue light glasses and fixes their awkward position with Parrot straddling him as his legs dangle on either side of Wifies’ chair. As Wifies carefully shifts him snugly onto his lap, Parrot buries his head somewhere between the curve of the brunette’s neck and shoulder, instantly melting when he inhales the faint mix of laundry detergent and sweet herbal musk from his sweater. Parrot realizes that his craving of being near Wifies multiplied tenfold over the past few days.

“Miss me that much?”

Parrot only answers with his hands tightening around Wifies’ torso.

A heartfelt chuckle escapes Wifies. Parrot has that exact same laugh playing in his head on loop, tucked comfortably in the clarity of his cluttered thoughts.

Pale delicate fingers thread their way towards his unruly hair. “I’m sorry, I didn’t notice the time. I got a bit too preoccupied with my project,” Wifies mutters with half of his face buried in Parrot’s tousled locks. The vague smell of floral and subtle notes of warm amber. “How’d it go?”

“Good. Just tired...”

“I can tell by the way you’re clinging onto me like a koala.” Wifies’ hands travels beneath the fabric of his hoodie and begins to trace loose circles on the back of his shirt. “You’re clingy when you’re tired,” he continues.

Parrot replies with a dissatisfied noise but does not retort a refutation. He deflects the subject at hand by bringing up another matter. “What are you working on?” he mutters with his voice being a lower octave than usual.

“Still working on the new Minecraft ARG script I’ve told you about. It has been an uphill battle and a little more than half to go. I’m still deliberating on the title, but I’m kind of stuck at the moment. Literally and figuratively.”

“Too bad,” he grumbles onto his sweater. “Tell me more.”

Wifies does not hesitate to start his tangent, but in all honesty, Parrot does not comprehend a word from the ever passionate monologuing of his boyfriend nor does he even attempt to; words indistinct as they’re filtered as a melody to lull him to slumber. He only wanted to hear his voice.

Amidst through his rambling, Parrot could gradually feel his consciousness blur within the cadence of his voice. He can practically hear their heartbeats mingle into one with the lack of distance between them, pulse indistinguishable with every thump. His radiant presence envelopes him whole in a safe cocoon.

Wifies continues for another three or four minutes until he registers the solemn silence from the slow rise and fall of the body against his chest.

“…then I’d have to think of another title if that were the case. There’s some specifics I need to iron out before… Parrot?”

The call of his name disrupts him out of his state of between asleep and awake, but still hums a response regardless.

“You sleepy?”

“Mm.”

“Go to bed, baby. I’ll join you in about an hour. That sound okay with you?”

Parrot lightly shakes his head against his shoulder. He does not want to be anywhere distant, be it merely a meter away from him.

“You won’t be comfy if you stay in this position for too long. That can’t be good for your neck,” he utters in concern as the burrowed fingers on his hair lightly scratches the base of his nape. He can feel his worries dissipate with every passing second.

“‘s fine. Don’t wanna move. You’re comfy.” He lets his head tilt imperceptibly to the side of his lover’s neck.

He can hear Wifies smiling with his indolent confession. His frown furrows deeper. He can imagine him sporting that stupid smirk.

“Alright, I guess I’ll gladly become your personal body pillow.”

The slumped body against him mumbles for him to shut up. “Finish in an hour,” he mutters as his final response before he shifts on his lap to a more relaxed position.

As he is about to succumb to tranquility, he registers a gentle kiss atop the mess of his hair.

“I missed you, too.”

Parrot feels his heart thud unevenly. He tightens his hold on him once again and surrenders to the involuntary upward tilt of his lips as he engulfs his senses with the warmth and the ambient noise emanating from none other than his Wifies.

Wifies picks up his glasses again and tries to finish his work for the sake of Parrot’s comfort. He’ll worry about the revisions later. For now, he listens to the hushed mellow breaths of his sleeping lover. Every exhale is a breath of fresh air to his lungs. The weight on him grounds him enough to ruminate on ideas as he lets his fingers react to the atoms in his brain to press on the keys, letting his abstraction be weaved into the document.

Surprisingly, it takes about nearly 30 minutes for him to finish almost the entirety of the script as a sluggish Parrot was still deep in his sleep. Half the time he presumed he would take. Having little to no space between him and his lover really got him through his creative block, he thinks. Maybe he should have him sleep on him more often as he works through his projects.

He’ll finish this by dawn tomorrow. He has other priorities.

Wifies would stare at his boyfriend for minutes before he decides to wake him up again. He likes seeing him in this serene state the most, away from the concerns that constantly plagues his mind.

His fingers brush away the dark hair covering the sharp yet delicate features he adores the most. Wifies can worship him for an eternity in boundless dimensions. He savors analyzing every detail of his lover.

His left hand hovers over his right cheek, his thumb smoothing the slight crease on his eyebrows. Parrot does not know of this, but he looks grumpy when he’s asleep—another one of Wifies’ personal favorites in his book of Parrot’s endearing habits. He plants a kiss between his brows and carries on.

Affection seeps into each gentle caress across his face. His fingers have memorized its path to his defined jawline, progressively making his way up to his blunt cheekbones. He then traces circles on the side of his temples as his other thumb moves to touch the tip of his eyelashes with little to no pressure. Featherlight as ever. He notes his once noticeable eye bags were getting less visible. He’s giddy at the thought of being the main factor of such development.

Wifies lets his gaze finally fall to his scarred lips. The lips that made its way back to him like the universe pulling pieces of itself together to merge as the innate profound desire to reunite is greater than any force.

He would need to introduce him to some moisturizer to avoid Parrot’s habit of biting his own chapped lips out of sheer restlessness. However, he does find himself being fond of his blemished lips if he were to be the cause.

He remembers to blink as a distraction from his ever growing thoughts and returns to continue his recent motions.

He moves on to one of his favorite hobbies: spotting the moles on his lover’s face. Two moles placed perpendicularly on the left side of his cheekbone with a two centimeter gap. One near the middle of his nose. And another between his cheek and upper lip. He leaves a trail of light pecks on each of his marks. If all of them were to be traced through dots, they would form a diagonal line. There were more scattered throughout his body and he has, of course, committed them to memory too.

It’s a minor feature to Parrot that holds little to no significance to him, but Wifies considers it to be the most adorable distinctive detail of his. He could play rounds of Geoguessr mapping each location of Parrot's body and would, undoubtedly, obtain a perfect score. He imagines a giggle erupting from Parrot if he were to hear such a foolish idea.

Another ten minutes has passed of his evident ogling. Wifies realizes this and forces himself to look away to check the time on his lit computer.

9:02 PM.

Ever since Parrot decided to rest on him, he has exhausted more of his time solely focusing on his dear boyfriend rather than completing the prior task in front of him. His cursor continues to blink as if to taunt him. Could you even blame him in this situation?

Wifies sighs in defeat but he decides now would be the time to wake up his boyfriend to prevent worsening their muscle cramps.

He finishes outlining his face and fixes his attention to his ears. With Parrot’s ears being vulnerable to sensitivity, he notices a twitch in Parrot’s visage as soon as his fingers make contact with his helix. Cute.

He’s soon met with a groggy Parrot, who’s attempting to adjust his vision to the harsh glare of his surroundings but failing nonetheless. Parrot feels a familiar hand cupping his right cheek and instinctively leans with easy familiarity.

He succeeds on his second attempt of opening his eyelids by squinting instead. He cranes his neck to have a better look at him and was faced with a lovely sight of his favorite brunette. The light behind his head paints an image of Wifies with a glowing ring hovering over his head. Why does he have to look more angelic than he already does from this angle?

“Morning, sleeping beauty.”

Unbeknownst to him, a slight flush decorated his face. Damn those stupid nicknames of his. He blinks a handful more times before he fully gets an eyeful of him.

“Hi,” Parrot croaks out in reciprocation, barely audible. “What time is it?”

“Uh, It’s a little past nine. But, it hasn’t been a complete hour yet. So according to your strict definition, I held on to your command.”

Wifies reaches for his bottle of water placed near his desk for convenience and offers it to Parrot. “Drink.”

Parrot takes the bottle from his hands and takes a sip until he decides his throat was replenished enough by the cool water. He clears his throat to recover from his hoarse voice.

“Still took you long enough. My neck aches a bit,” he says as he extends his neck to the side and his fingers gently press into the muscles above his collarbone in means to alleviate his neck pain.

Wifies bites at his lower lip to suppress his impulses of sinking his teeth into the soft flesh and leaving varying shades of red-and-purple marks on his neck. Another time. Wifies’ opts to cover half of his neck with his palm and his fingers make an effort to massage the area instead.

“Sorry, I tried.” If you could call his ardent fixation on Parrot for almost half an hour as trying, then sure. He offers a half smile as he apologizes in sincerity. “I was a bit too locked in to notice the time. For the second time now, I know. Also, it was your choice to sleep on me.”

Parrot merely stares at him, unfazed. “Are you finished?” he refers to his document.

“Not quite,” he answers as if unsure. “But, almost.”

“Still not done? Weren’t you beyond half through your script? It’s been almost an hour, bro.” Parrot pokes at his cheek.

Wifies can hear the alarms blaring in his head. He doesn’t dread the thought of him knowing much, but he does not want Parrot to shy away from him.

“Yeah?” he draws out.

Parrot hums in suspicion. Wifies hears himself take an imaginary gulp.

“...I guess you’re just a bigger bum than me after all.”

A nervous laugh escapes Wifies and a sense of relief washes over him. “Slandering me already after I’ve graciously offered you your basic needs?” he teases.

“Bro, you need some humbling with the ego your fans give you.”

“Don’t you think the same applies to you?”

“Dude, they talk about you as if you’re the reincarnation of Albert Einstein when you’re literally just a bum.” Parrot jabs at him amidst Wifies’ giggles. “You’re nothing without your fans, bro.”

“Says the guy who made a Tiktok edit of themselves as some form of propaganda.”

Parrot begins to defend himself. “Okay, okay—listen. Bro—stop laughing, dude!”

This provoked a playful conversation of who has the bigger ego between them, constantly ribbing at the other’s statement. Their relentless banter only then ends when Parrot inevitably yawns.

“Okay, we really need to get off this stiff ass chair. I need to stretch after three hours of sitting my butt here,” he remarks whilst he tries to relieve the stiffness in his limbs by stretching, cautious not to jostle his boyfriend.

“Thanks for validating that I’m the biggest bird.”

“Right…” he satirically delivers with a sneer. “Whatever floats your boat, darling.”

Parrot naturally rolls his eyes at the pet name and replies with a sigh, but he guesses he should give him some mercy. He peels away from the warm body and a tingly sensation of pins and needles immediately prick at his limbs as he stands on wobbly knees, clutching at the chair to steady himself.

Wifies, the ever attentive person he is, prepares his arms to catch Parrot on occasions such as this on reflex. “Woah, careful now.”

“The lower portion of my body feels dead, dude,” he whines in annoyance.

“That’s what happens when you stay in an awkward position for long durations.”

“Never again, bro.”

Wifies wishes he could retract his previous statement. “Come on, it wasn’t that bad. My lap is all yours.”

Parrot threatens him jokingly with a sharp glare but his intentions to stop his jesting mouth from speaking further failed to reach him as Wifies doubles over at his reaction. He does not want to deal with this right now. His annoyance cannot be anywhere near genuine with how Wifies’ laugh makes his heart flutter at the sound.

“Okay, I’m all good now.” That’s an evident lie. He knows Wifies has got him figured out with his obvious diversion but he’s too tired to even react. Despite the numbness in his legs, his embarrassment prompted him to escape the subject at hand.

“Suit yourself,” Wifies shrugs with a smug look on his face.

He trudges straight to their bed with clear struggle.

He can hear Wifies’ distant amused chuckle resonating within the four corners of their room. He lets his body fall on the mattress instead, sprawled and face flat. Parrot lays idly with his eyes closed until he hears Wifies approaching their bed.

“Are you sure you want to sleep with these clothes on?” He manages to shake his head as a reply.

“Take ‘em off,” he directs, his voice barely audible.

“Aye aye, king Parrot. Okay, turn around for me.”

He rolls himself around and uses his arm to protect his sensitive eyes from the blinding light.

Wifies shuffles closer to him and he feels a tug at his pants. “Up.”

He lets his hips be lifted for easier accessibility. A sensation of cold air blows on his legs as his pants gradually get taken off with ease.

“Hoodie?”

Parrot shakes his head.

“Just pants?”

A small nod.

“I’ll get myself ready for bed. I won’t take long, that okay?”

Parrot gives him another nod before Wifies makes his way out of their room to carry out his nightly routine.

He removes the arm covering his vision and he opens his eyes to register the lack of light in their room. He uses the excess of his energy to move sluggishly around the bed to adjust his position and leave some room for Wifies to join him.

He, too, has his own nightly routine: scrolling through Youtube Shorts until he passes out. He pulls his phone out of the pocket of his gray hoodie, only to be blinded by the bright flash of his phone from the dark contrast of his surroundings. Nope. Fuck that, he’ll just have to wait for Wifies. He gets under the velvety blankets and decides to count the seconds Wifies would take for him to come back.

He would then hear the turn of the metal doorknob and the creak of the door hinges by the time he reaches the two minute mark.

“Two minutes and thirteen seconds,” Parrot announces.

“Wow, new record,” he huffs out like it’s a grand achievement. “I speed ran through my skin care for you.” Parrot knows how ritualistic he is when it comes to his routines. He warms at the thought of him being a bigger priority. “I’ll have you do them with me next time.”

The mattress dips from his weight and Wifies occupies the empty space Parrot left for him. He envelops himself with the rest of the blankets and he clears the space between them once again until their faces are centimeters apart from the other.

“Hi,” Wifies greets with fondness as he turns to look at Parrot.

Parrot was about to reciprocate a greeting in return until he was interrupted with their lips colliding for a second.

“Hi.” Parrot flusters out a response and chases his lips with fervor, like a moth does to a flame.

Wifies tilts his head to deepen the kiss and pulls Parrot by the waist, his hand loosely making its way under layers of fabric. Parrot’s nails scrape against his scalp and he swallows the delicious sound Wifies makes. A soft exhale leaves Parrot as the fingers on his back start to trail up his spine. His senses tingle at the sensation and he shivers in pure ecstasy. God, he missed this. This was his reward for all the events he endured this week.

All Parrot can taste is Wifies and a tinge of mint on his tongue. All his mind can muster is to get closer and remove the last remaining distance between them. Their shared proximity allows for the cold air around them to dissipate and they get lost in the euphoria radiating off them. Warmth buzzes under his skin and he can feel a smile tugging at Wifies’ lips. He’s just as giddy as him and he wants the world to stay still just for moments like this.

Their passionate kiss lasts for another minute before Parrot lightly tugs at Wifies’ locks, indicating his need to breathe. They part to gather their breaths with their foreheads resting on the other. The comfortable silence stretches between them, basking in the contentment of the other’s soothing presence. Wifies continues tracing lazy patterns at the small of his back and Parrot can’t help but let the haze in his mind take over.

Wifies notices his breathing starting to steady and he wouldn’t be able to hear Parrot muttering in a faint voice about him being sleepy if he wasn’t in such a close distance away from his face, his gaze laser-focused on every blink and twitch of a muscle on his face.

His devotion transcends physical dimensions, studying the matter that is Parrot. His residence inhabits the pattern of constellations inscribed on his skin. Wifies believes the universe in itself unfolds within one’s eyes. He is in Parrot’s universe—his universe orbits around him. He is blessed to exist.

“Sleep, baby. I’ll be here when you wake up, as I always am.” Wifies presses another kiss near the corner of his lips and he senses Parrot soften in his hold.

Wifies counts every exhale of his until he assures that he has fallen asleep. He repositions himself to where he can rest his head snugly under Parrot’s chin and his ear is placed at the center of his chest where he can resonantly hear the subdued beating of his lover’s heart profoundly in his ear. He lets his eyelids fall as the rhythmic vibrations draw him to peaceful slumber and his breathing syncs with his sleeping lover.

Notes:

i had a hard time trying not to cringe considering the fact that i'm writing about two straight men kissing. but i might write more about them as practice. i wrote this with them fucking in mind but i scrapped it because i do not want my first fanfic to be a smut. i've already lost my dignity enough. i sneaked in a narusasu reference in there did you catch it
