There was a soft knock at Rainbow Dash's door. Which was weird, because she lived in cloudsdale. Why would someone fly all the way up here and knock on her door?
She could ignore it if she wanted. But it's not like she was sleeping anyway, so she might as well get up and see who it was.
She opened the door, blinking slightly at the moonlight that streamed in. Once she got used to it, she saw… Fluttershy? Her brain buffered for a second. Why was Fluttershy on her doorstep? She didn't even live in cloudsdale for pony's sake.
"Fluttershy?" She asked, slightly groggy and confused. "What are you doing here?"
"I um…" Her words were so quiet, and her head was ducked down that Rainbow had to strain to hear her.
"What was that?" She asked.
"I couldn't um… c-couldn't sleep." She whispered.
"Did you fly all the way up here?" Rainbow Dash asked, slightly impressed. Fluttershy usually didn't fly more than a few feet above the ground.
"Yes I did." Her wings were pressed close to her body, and she looked nervous.
"Are you alright? Do you wanna come inside?" Rainbow stepped aside, giving her room to walk in. She did, and rainbow shut the door after her.
"So… what's up?" Rainbow asked, sitting on her haunches. She studied her friend, puzzled.
"Well I-I-" Fluttershy stammered. Rainbow Dash put a gentle wing around her. "What's wrong?"
"I was wondering if um… if I could st-stay here for tonight?" She said, so softly that if Rainbow hadn't been so close to her, she wouldn't have heard.
"Yeah, of course Fluttershy, of course. You're always welcome at my place." She nudged her. "That all?" Fluttershy nodded. Rainbow smiled to herself as they sat their for a moment, before getting up to lead Fluttershy down the hall.
"Well, I don't have a guest bed, so you can have mine and I'll sleep on the floor." She said it so casually, like it was the assumed option. Fluttershy hesitated.
"W-Wait um are you sure? I d-don't wanna kick you off your own bed maybe I should just g-go I'm sorry-" She was backing away towards the door.
"Fluttershy, Fluttershy, woah woah woah!" Rainbow stopped her. "It's really no problem, really. I'd prefer you to have the bed, alright?"
"Alright…" She said, unsure.
"Alright," Rainbow agreed, nodding. "Now let's go." She guided the pink haired one along with her wing.
"Here's my room. It's ah… not much but it's comfortable. I hope you like it." She waved to her soft nest, with a nook for the bed and a window that looked out over the sky. She grabbed a blanket from the closet for herself, laying it down on the floor beside the bed.
"I'm gonna hit the hay, but wake me up if you need anything." She curled up on the floor, yawning. "Goodnight." She said, and almost instantly passed out.
Fluttershy carefully climbed into the bed, cozying up in the soft bedding. Inhaling a little, it smelled like Rainbow Dash.
"Goodnight." Fluttershy murmured back. She comforted by her friend's presence close by, and soon slipped into sleep herself.
