Chapter 1: Safety

Chapter Text

It was dark again, he had been trapped somewhere again. Nobody was nice to hybrid like him, his wrists aching from the rope as he sat there. He was tired, tired of the way people acted. He hadn’t done anything to these people. He simply existed and got taken for it. He pressed his tingling head against the wall, his vision spinning as he remained there. He wanted to go home.

“Get this one, he keeps winning, let's see if someone else can keep up with him.”

The familiar voice made the small hybrid tremble slightly. He didn’t want to go back, he hated it here. That didn’t stop the other from opening the door and dragging the small one away from the wall. His small whimpers did not matter as he couldn’t speak actual words. He was forced to stand much to his dismay as he was brought to the circle.

“I’m thinking this guy might lose for the first time. It’d be a shame to lose him after the amount of work he’s done but we need fresh minds.”

The small hybrid blinked quickly getting used to the light. He looked at the glitch in front of him, he noticed that this person was much older than him. He took a small step back, how was he expected to fight against this thing?

A familiar ding was in his ears and they were moving. The older boy swung hard and there was no time for the younger to dodge. He let out a small screech. He stumbled gripping his side and moved to stand again. The other boy grinned down at him, he was having fun. His tail sunk low, how did the other enjoy this?

His hands sparked and he watched as the other looked interested and amused.

“Fire powers huh?”

The other had spoken and the smaller blinked surprised. The weakness was taken advantage of as he got another fist to the stomach. His mouth opened but he let out a choked gasp. It was small and he squeezed his eyes shut as they continued to punch him. It hurt. Everything hurts.

He needed help.

Someone.

He needed someone.

Please.

Laughter and amusement filled his hearing and he whimpered more, looking up at the ceiling as his vision swam. He was gonna die. He was never going to see his family again. His fingers flexed as he blinked at the older boy in a daze. He didn’t even put up a fight. Another punch. Another gasp.

“Who knew the little champion could be beaten by a little old me!” The older boy spoke again, the little hybrid didn’t acknowledge it blinking up at the other. This was it. This was the fate he was given. It was all over.

He had wished it wasn’t the way it went. He had wanted to see his brother again, see his parents and his friends. He had a good life. He was a good kid but.. He didn’t listen when he needed to.

Another punch this time to his side had him choking as he curled in on himself. He couldn’t die like this. His hands sparked and he felt flames erupt from his hands. The other was clearly surprised by the flame and the small hybrid felt it burning him too. He blinked up at the glitch and let out a gasp when the other stomped on one of his hands.

The flames went out and he blinked slowly up in a daze. His vision was spinning and his eyes were fluttering. It was over.

The smaller watched through blurred vision as people began running. Faint noises drifting through his ears. Screams of panic and swords clashing. He lay there feeling his own breathing. It sounded wet and his own heart was slowing. He hated having such a good hearing. He knew he was dying. He could feel it and he could hear it.

His tail limply wrapped around his wrist trying to focus on his pulse. Even though that too was slowing. He blinked slowly eyes seeing two blobs of color moving for him. He couldn’t defend himself then.

“Oh my god he looks our age..” A small voice trickled into his ears.

“Stop looking, Piks go find big brother. Now.” Another voice, closer and Galaxy just vaguely heard the sound of running footsteps leaving him.

“Hey.. hey can you hear me?” The voice was soft and careful. He felt the other lift his shirt up and let out a hiss of worry. “Jeasus Christ."

He whimpered, small gasps leaving him. They sounded disgusting to his ears. They were wet and labored. The other hushed him, carefully running their hands through his hair.

Two sets of footsteps were heard and he could only tilt his head to the side. Everything was too heavy. He felt waves of warmth as he stared off. He was dying, and he accepted that.

“Quick- Pulse- Low” the voice was far away.. He couldn’t hear it. Which was funny.. His hearing was normally so much louder. It was over.

______

He hadn’t expected to wake up again. He definitely hadn’t expected to wake up on a soft bed. His hands shook minutely as he opened his eyes. The light hurt his eyes as he looked up weakly. He turned his head and was met with.. Someone dressed in a long red cloak. He was a few years older than him and looked exhausted. The older one was reading a book and looked up and met the smaller hybrid's eyes.

“You’re awake? Good. We were getting worried.” The winged hybrid shut the book and reached on the bedside table to a water bottle.

The smaller watched the winged hybrid put a straw in the bottle and bring it to his lips.

“My name is Stormz. I’m the second oldest sibling.” The hybrid, Stormz said, gently coaxing the smaller to drink the water.

He drank it, his throat aching and his shaky hands moved for the bottle starting to chug. He whimpered when the older pulled it out of his grasp.

“Easy.. we don’t want you to choke on this. You’re in for a few weeks of recovery.” Stormz said, moving the straw back for the hybrid.

He went slower but still rather fast, Stormz didn’t stop him for which he was grateful. He didn’t know when Stormz would let him have more. He blinked as he realized the water was gone and a weak whine left him.

“It’s okay. I’ll have Pika fetch more. He should be back soon enough.” Stormz said, resting the empty bottle on the bedside table. “Correct me if I’m wrong, your file in that place. Your name is ####?”

The smaller hybrid flinched unused to the name now. He didn’t like it, the way the people had jeered at him using his name and taunting him. He whimpered.

“Hey, hey it’s okay. How about this, what about a new name?” Stormz said, gently running his hands through the smaller hair.

The smaller hesitated, playing with the blankets as he stared at his bandaged hands. He nodded jerkily, he didn’t understand why they wanted his opinion.

“Do you like stars? That room of yours had little night light stars.” Stormz said, changing the subject a little.

That made his eyes light up slightly as he stared up at the other. He nodded slowly but internally he was ecstatic. He loved star watching. It always filled him with a sense of joy.

“What if I call you Galaxy? Would you be okay with that?” Stormz asked, his voice soft.

The hybrid perked up and nodded a noise of agreement coming from his throat. He looked at Stormz nervously and flinched when the door swung open.

“Pika what did I say about that right now.” Stormz sighed, looking over at the smaller raising a brow.

“You said not to.. But I have more water!” Pika held up a bottle with a bright grin on his face.

Stromz rolled his eyes but a small smile tugged on his face as he watched Pika climb into the bed beside Galaxy. He smiled and offered the water with a straw.

“You already heard my name but I'm Pika!” He seemed to be around the same age as Galaxy, maybe a year older. Galaxy took the water, sipping on it quietly and moving his feet slightly.

The door opened again, this time someone in pink and black who looked around Pika’s age stepped in someone else behind them.

“Pika, come on. Dad wants us.” the kid didn’t acknowledge Galaxy and Pika sighed, smiling at Galaxy before hopping out of the bed and disappearing into the hall.

The other boy from the hall stepped in, he stared at Galaxy with a plain facial expression and Stormz raised a brow at the other.

“I’m the oldest. My name is Mugm.”

Galaxy stared at him, sipping the water slowly as he continued to wiggle his feet under the blankets. Stormz looked at him and seemed curious.

“We need to find a good way to communicate until we teach you how to speak huh?”

Galaxy smiled shakily looking guilty and Mugm scoffed, moving and sitting beside Stormz, putting his feet on the bed.

“Don’t be guilty. What happened to you was not your fault, and we are trying to protect you. You can choose to stay here once you recover or you can leave.” Mugm said, stretching out and wincing as Stormz playfully nudged him out of the way when his arm got too close to Stormz’s wing.

“What he’s trying to say is we want you to stay with us.” Stormz said, watching Galaxy drink the water in front of him.

Galaxy looked away, he was tired and he didn’t have an answer for them yet. He offered the water to Stormz and curled up in the bed.

“You don’t have to say anything, but are you okay staying here till you’re at least recovered?” Stormz asked

Galaxy thought about it for a few moments before nodding.

Stormz smiled, “Alright then. Rest for now Galaxy. We can talk more about it tomorrow when you’ve gotten some much needed rest.”

Just as Galaxy began to drift off Mugm’s voice reached his ears.

“You’re safe now kid.”
