Work Text:
The rain fell softly over the city when you realized someone was following you again.
It wasn’t the first time.
Slow footsteps. Steady. Unhurried.
You tightened your grip on your bag and glanced at the reflection in the store window. The tall man with white hair was still there, wearing that strangely relaxed smile.
Usagi.
Your stomach dropped.
He lifted a hand in a friendly wave the moment he noticed you saw him.
“Ah… you finally noticed.”
His voice was soft. Almost gentle. The kind of voice that didn’t match the emptiness in his eyes.
You walked faster.
So did he.
“No need to run,” he said with a quiet laugh. “I just wanted to talk.”
Just talk.
That’s what he had been saying for weeks.
You first met him at a convenience store late at night. After that, he started appearing everywhere. At the station. Outside your workplace. Sitting across the café while silently watching you scroll through your phone.
Always smiling.
Always staring.
Like a patient predator.
When you turned the corner, a hand suddenly wrapped around your wrist.
Your body froze instantly.
Usagi tilted his head, still smiling.
“You’re hard to catch when you get nervous like this.”
“Let me go.”
“Hm…”
He looked down at your hand trying to pry him off as if he were genuinely thinking about it.
“I don’t want to.”
The casual way he answered made your breathing falter.
He leaned closer slowly.
“Do you know how much I thought about you today?”
You tried pulling away again, but his grip was too firm.
“I counted how many times you smiled at other people.”
Your heart sank.
“I also counted how long that guy at the café talked to you yesterday. Four minutes and twenty-two seconds.”
Silence.
Rainwater slid down his white hair while his reddish eyes remained locked onto yours.
Obsessed.
“That irritated me.”
You finally yanked your wrist free.
“You’re insane.”
Usagi blinked slowly.
Then laughed.
A low, almost childish laugh.
“Ah… you only realized that now?”
Before you could react, he pulled something from his coat pocket.
Your scarf.
The scarf you lost three days ago.
“You dropped it,” he explained calmly. “So I kept it.”
He brought the fabric close to his face and closed his eyes for a second.
“It smells like you.”
A shiver ran through your entire body.
“Why are you doing this to me…?”
Usagi opened his eyes again.
For a brief moment, his smile disappeared.
And somehow that was even worse.
Because the empty expression beneath it looked far more dangerous.
“Because you’re my favorite person now.”
He stepped closer.
You stepped back.
Again.
Until your back hit the damp wall of the alley.
Usagi placed one hand above your head, trapping you there effortlessly.
“I tried to stop thinking about you,” he murmured. “But it became impossible.”
His fingers brushed against your cheek with terrifying gentleness.
“So I decided to accept it.”
Your heartbeat pounded painfully in your chest as he leaned near your ear.
“No matter where you run…”
His voice dropped into a whisper.
“I’ll always find you.”
And for the first time, you realized he probably meant it.
