Work Text:

"…just go…Tooru…it's not worth it…"

"No! I-I won't leave you!"

It was a bad situation turned worse. The villains had trashed them, escaped, and left them for dead in the middle of a burning warehouse. Hagakure desperately dragged Shinsou through the blaze by her own capture weapon, fighting against the heat, the inhalation of smoke, and the agonizing pull of her own injuries to do so.

Shinsou was worse off than her, barely conscious and bleeding heavily, she had no strength to get out on her own. Behind them the smear of her blood tracked Hagakure's desperate path to save the both of them.

Hagakure grit her teeth, her form flickering between visible and invisible. Backup was on its way but the fire was growing fast. Her eyes stung, her lungs burned, and something was definitely broken. Every inch she dragged Shinsou felt like a monumental effort, she was built for stealth and speed, not for strength, not even on a good day, and her friend was all muscle.

Still, Hagakure didn't let go of the length of capture cloth in her hands, she didn't stop moving them towards the one window not blocked off by flames. Leaving Shinsou wasn't an option.

Hagakure would never leave her friend behind.

"…please…" Shinsou begged, actually begged, her voice a delirious slur brought on by blood loss and head trauma. "…jus…just get out of here…you'll die…"

"Don't say that!" Hagakure cried over the roaring flames and the crumbling, creaking sounds of the building threatening to come down on their heads. She wound more of the capture cloth's bindings around her aching hands to make sure she wouldn't let go. "We're not going to die!"

"No…we aren't…"

Hagakure realized in horror that her body stopped responding to her command, that she was under Shinsou's control. She panicked within the confine's of her mind as Shinsou instructed her to let go of the capture cloth and escape.

She almost did exactly that.

But Hagakure was sporting several injuries. When she moved, they protested. When they protested, she was broken free of Shinsou's control.

An involuntary wail of protest left Hagakure when she finally returned to the driver's seat of her own body. For a moment, she could only stare down in shock at Shinsou, who looked back towards her with guilt.

Hagakure steeled herself and shakily took the bindings back into her hands.

"I'm going to get us out of here. And then- I'm going to be so mad at you, Hitomi."
