Work Text:

I feared things sometimes.

Like snakes or pirates or so.

Everyone always associated me with fear.

Or cowardness.

Or both.

Maybe it was because I was too shy at times and always preferred company with my closest friends— One to Five.

Unlike One, who gets around with everyone easily.

So yes, I am shy. And scared. Everyone knows that.

And when I'm scared, everyone will hear a near high-pitched screaming from not so far away and already know I've found a dummy snake lurking in my shoebox.

I scream when I'm scared. Really loud.

.

So why was I so damn quiet when I saw Five in a position I never expected her to be in?

The air was sticky. The grass looked gross.

Like bugs would infest it and eat away like a never ending feast.

I don't like bugs either.

I *would've* been scared.

But I wasn't.

It was so weird,

The way I clamped my mouth shut as I watched the green patches of grass drag red uneven stains.

And the unnerving sounds from the strings of the guitar as it was dragged along.

The sound of an axe alone, which was meant to be enough to make me jump,

The sight of intestines and guts gaping out of the bag itself,

And a heart.

An eye.

A head.

And an arm.

And the grass around all of them was stained a shade of red that gave me the creeps everytime I looked at it.

Everything was supposed to scare me.

Badly.

Give me nightmares everytime I would come to think of that same place. (If I ever.)

But why was I so quiet?

If I was really scared, whoever was staining the grass red with whatever would've heard me screaming moments ago.

I was scared.

I was trembling violently I swore the bushes rustling could've caught attention whether it'd be the person or a squirrel.

But I was very quiet.

And the trail of red ended.

To somewhere down the lake.

Deep in the forest.

Where it'd go so deep you wouldn't see a speck of it whether above or below.

..

So I was scared.

But I was as quiet as a mouse.

I convinced myself I wasn't, and I'm sure that Five now convinced me now that I didn't see anything I just saw.

Or was she bargaining me?

Or worse...

Threatening me?

That if I think or spread word of it,

I'd end up like that head she threw off like pebbles in the river?

I hope not.

So, I saw nothing of what I just said.

I'm the fearful one everyone knows, and if I screamed I was actually frightened of what I saw.

But I didn't yell. Or mumble. Or even breathe at all.

So I saw nothing.

Because I'd be the crazy one if I said I saw something scary and stood breathless, wouldn't I be?

.
