Work Text:
"Finally done with getting rid of those things”, Dr Samantha grumbled furiously as she started digging through some papers before screaming in frustration at the fact she had wasted months just to try and make the project real only for all efforts to be in vain. She sighed as she just rubbed her face knowing she couldn’t really do much since ██████████████████ thus meaning she had no easy way to ██████████████████. On top of that being 40 was beginning to take its toll on her so might as well start over again or wait for maternity leave to e-. Oh look at that it was already over which means……why hadn’t they called her back.
She grabbed her phone furiously and began to ring the number. There was no way that the company could have fired her after everything she had done for it. She pressed the phone next to her ear yet no answer and she grumbled and decided to go grab her lab coat and pay a nice little visit. However before leaving she checked what the weather would be so she quickly grabbed the tv remote and turned the channel on. While putting on her shoes and lab coat she swore she could hear the news channel and sighed so when she went to change the channel her jaw dropped even if she barely showed emotions other than frustration and anger.
“It brings us great sorrow to inform you that even after months of investigating what happened at Playtime Co,President Larry Schwartz has declared all the missing people dead. Including workers like:Richard Lovitz,Leith Pierre,Ms Green,Tourists like: Will Solace, Nico di Angelo, and orphans whose names we couldn’t even receive dead. He has also declared it illegal to attempt to trespass the property and that those that do so will be arrested.”
The words Gracie Green and Missing should not have been in the same sentence yet they still were used anyways. Samantha’s entire world at the fact that her best friend was missing. She shouldn’t have cared as Gracie was just a colleague in the end and probably would leave her for dead if the opportunity arose and yet. She couldn’t hold the tears back. She forgot what she wanted to do plus she knew it was futile to do it anyways. She couldn’t stop crying for some reason. She hated humans and their limitations even if she was one and yet she could not feel apathetic towards Gracie for some reason unlike other humans. She lied down on the couch and began to reminisce about the past.
“Ugh this bloody report God I will slit the throat of whoever messed this up-
“Samantha”,Gracie called out to Samantha while she was writing some notes, causing the scientist to sigh at the Counselor”.
“Sorry Grace I just don’t like the others messing up the results of the experiments”.
“It's fine Sammy plus hey first week’s always a buzzer so it will take time to get used to it”.
“Heh you say it like its not your first week as well”,Samantha said smugly causing Gracie to laugh a bit.”
“Why are yeh laughing lass hm”, Samantha asked while she finished up writing the report(actually it was tearing up the work to make a new one but whatever) and decided to take some pages out to start a new one.
“Nothing, it's just I like your accent Samantha”,Gracie told Samantha while smiling brightly.
“Listen love you can call me Sam if you want but not Sammy.Sammy is a bloody awful nickname of mine.”
“Oh I see well then Sam so um how are you managing?”
“Grace it's awful as I was hoping to do more field work or I don’t know experiments or….nvm that's scientifically impossible right now.”
“Sam, nothing is scientifically impossible. Plus as Mr Pierre says,”Innovation is key”, So I'm sure that whatever you want to make possible will be achievable,Gracie said to Samantha as she began to twist her own hair and comb it into a bun.
"Grace,I believe humans are....weak and that we can be improved in ways more than one can imagine",Samantha began to rant as Gracie began to slowly blush at Samantha for the way she was speaking and how she looked and began to form a blush on her face, which Samantha was oblivious to.
“Um Sam I-uh am going to get back to work see you in a bit”, Gracie said as she rushed out of the room and the memory ended.
She smiled at the memory before her face soured in anger. She began to ponder why she couldn’t get Gracie out of her head even after hours had begun to pass. Was it the way she smiled at her?. Her laugh when Samantha would rage a bit?. Or what. Why couldn’t she get her out of her head……oh.
Samantha knew she didn’t really like blokes. At first she assumed she hadn’t found the right lad,but when she got married for the sake of helping the company she still lacked happiness. Either it was her sadism or maybe…..she liked Women but not just anyone, she liked her co-worker.
She then remembered a few months back when Gracie had stopped her from leaving and realized……Gracie was about to confess to her and yet could not because of the company and her marriage for it.
The amount of tears dripping from her eyes became a flood as a flash of memories began to appear through her head of all the time she spent with Gracie. The times when the two would deal with late shifts, the work parties where they would drink way more than the usual amount, the day the two got promoted to head Scientist and head Counselor respectively and generally every time they hung out, talked and just were together. However, now with the knowledge of her crush on Gracie she began to see the memories in a new light than before. She then realized that ever since the first week of the job Gracie had also put subtle hints even when being a lesbian was unacceptable.
Thud. She moved deeper into the sofa as she slipped off her engagement ring that she had received from her ex-husband and began to observe it,imagining a life with Gracie instead.
"If only you didn’t go missing Grace”.
