Chapter Text

(This is post rd canon, also the intern has a microphone so they can actually talk to the others bc convenient)

"Intern!" Edegas booming voice snaps Blixer out of her half listening to an argument between Paige and the boss about Edega needing to rest from his nerve damage.

"Yes doctor Edega?" They manage to compose themself fast. They're just glad they don't have a camera, it'd raise too many questions she never wants to answer.

"I need you to come in person." Edega stated calmly. "As I can't do much currently without Paige arguing with me."

Blixer immediately freezes up. "Are you... sure that's a good idea Edega?" She would rather not admit her reasoning for being against it unless necessary.

"If you don't you'll be fired from the rhythm program" Edega states. He could be bluffing, but Blixer would rather not risk it.

"Fine."

About half an hour later, Edega hears someone walking up. "Ah finally-" he's cut off by Paige's gasp.

And yeah, Edega can see why. The interns got wings for gods sake. Magpie wings specifically, if he's not mistaken. They're trying (and failing) to hide them under their scrubs and lab coat. Edega walks over to the intern. "Explain." His voice is almost unnervingly calm which makes Blixer flinch.

"I don't think that it's necessary for me to~" Blixer immediately states before Edega glares at her. "It's a long story."

"We have time, there's no new rhythm patients or any with flare ups right now." Paige notes, far more calm than Edega.

"Fine." They sigh, clearly not looking forward to explaining. "I experimented on myself in med school. I was testing if bird genes could somehow increase reaction speed. Technically yes, but it also caused this."

The interns voice being so calm, like they'd had this rehearsed in case something like this happened, almost unnerves Edega. Paige is more clearly concerned over what she's heard.

"... do they hurt?" She asks hesitantly.

"Used to feel like i was being burnt alive from the inside." Blixer replies simply. "It sucked but at least it doesn't hurt now~." They sound oddly cheerful, like they’re trying to hide their true feelings.

“That’s why you worked remotely.” It’s not a question, just a calm realization.

“…that’s correct.” The intern meets Edegas gaze as they speak, unlike most workers and patients who get nervous around him.

“Well.” Edega gets serious again “you can go back to working from home if you wish, though we’d prefer if you stay, for today at least.”

“Alright, thank you doctor.” Blixer nods, readjusting their lab coat and briskly walking off to check on the rhythm patients.
