Work Text:

Draco wondered what birthday surprises were in store for him when he spied Hermione hurriedly up the stairs with a wrapped package. He went to find Lucius, who was perusing an ancient novel on soulmate bonds of all things when Draco caught the title on the book spine.

“Ahem, Father, do you know what my wife is up to?” Draco asked innocently, startling Lucius in the process, and Hermione made Lucius promise not to tell Draco under any circumstances.

“Well, you know your mother and Hermione are probably plotting out something for you. As to what I have no idea." Lucius responded smoothly, silently applauding his response in his mind.

Draco huffed and pounced out of the room as he headed upstairs to their suite. Only to find Hermione had disappeared. Yawning, he saw the bed was elegant, made up and decided to take a nap.

Midnight came quickly when one of the house elves gently shook Draco awake. “Master Draco, come at once!”

Draco yawned as he rose from the bed and followed the house elf downstairs to see it was pitch dark. Concerned that something had happened, he yelled out, “Hello?”

“Surprise!” Everyone shouted as the house elves turned the lights back on.

Draco blinked and replied, “Thank you! I thought everyone had forgotten about my birthday!”

“Here you go, dearest!” Hermione smiled at her husband, who accepted the flask of champagne and a party hat.

“Now, love, you know I don’t like champagne, and you know what it does to you so….” His voice trailed off as Hermione gulped hers down, which shocked Draco.

Hermione hiccuped and got another flask of strawberry champagne. “George got us these dearest, have some fun!”

Draco looked around worriedly, seeing his parents kissing, holding on to the flask, thinking something weird was going on. And before he knew it, Hermione was undoing his shirt.

“Hermione!” Draco gasped, startled about what his wife was doing. He knew this was a bad decision and was hungry at the same time. “Let's get something to eat.” He practically led her to the dining room table as they fixed a plate.

After they ate, they celebrated Draco's birthday with butterbeer and chocolate cake. He opened up his presents, feeling the love from the room.

He knew something was off since it was after midnight and asked Hermione, “ Why did we celebrate my birthday after midnight?”

“I read in a book that if you make a wish after midnight, you might see your favourite dead person back to life. I know it was a bad decision and I hoped that your wish brought you some happiness and…” Her voice trailed off as he kissed her soundly, picked her up and cradled her back to their suite.

“Now the real fun begins!” Draco whispered naughtily in Hermione’s ear as they kissed passionately, their hands moving up and down their naked bodies as they tried to find a position they liked, ignoring the sounds of celebration coming from downstairs.
