Chapter Text

You want to wake up in another home. You want it to all be a bad dream. You want to take up in a room that is not my own. You will walk to the kitchen and a beloved friend will be there.
“What do you want for breakfast?” They’ll ask. It’ll be nice and early, and the world would be as still as church mice. You’ll consider all the options: chicken, cereal, mashed potatoes, leftovers, eggs.
“I would like eggs.” You’ll say. “But without the yolk because I don't like eggs with the yolk. If it's too much trouble for you, I can make them my-”
Then you will remember. You are not a burden. Your beloved friend knows how you like your eggs. They will crack the eggs into the pan and expertly remove the yolk. They’ll crack a few more eggs for themselves. You’ll sit at the table, anticipating your breakfast. You’ll watch your beloved friend as they stand at the stove, letting the eggs cook. It'll be a good day. After a few minutes, your friend will divide the eggs onto two plates. There will be three for you and three for them. You two will sit at the table and eat your eggs peacefully. There will be no words unspoken, nothing left unacknowledged. You two will chat about what you will do today: the cat will come around to beg for scraps. Of course, the cat is spoiled and will receive a bit of egg. This is what you want. Is this a premonition of what is to come or longing for what you do not have? You do not know.
