Chapter Text

Why was life so cruel?

The years had marked him with countless drinks thrown at his face. Loud, hysterical yelling. Maybe even an attempted murder. Two of his exes tried getting it on with his brother. One succeeded.

But never had he experienced such humiliation before.

He’d just wanted to get a drink. But no, Kate and Siena had to be at this exact bar.

They were sitting together at a table. In conversation. And laughing. How the hell did they even meet? And what were they talking about? Him? It was the only thing they had in common.

And Kate was probably still mad at him. It’s only been two weeks since he dumped her. Okay fine, she dumped him. But only because he’d forgotten her birthday. An innocent mistake. He just mixed up the dates. Was that reason enough to conspire with one of his exes? And Siena at that?

Siena was dressed as modestly as always: a short, tight skirt with a cherry red crops-top. Heels so high, they made her double in size.

Kate was wearing a strapless dress of turquoise silk. He knew that dress. He’d bought it for her. As an apology. But he’d never seen her wear it. She’d just thrown it at his face, yelling how a late gift wasn’t enough.

Apparently she liked it now. And it did look good on her.

Leave!

But he stayed where he was. Why them? Anyone else would’ve been fine. But those two?

He’d known Siena for almost ten years now, on and off again. There was just something wickedly tempting about her. He’d always thought they’d end up together eventually.

But then he’d met Kate. And this time, he’d sworn himself commitment. She’d been suspicious of him from the beginning. But eventually, he’d won her over. And he’d been determined to give it his best shot.

But then he’d made a dumb mistake. And of course, he had not been allowed a mistake. He had already been on thin eyes.

Stupid birthday.

But did it really justify this?

Leave, you idiot!

But he didn’t listen to himself. A mistake.

Siena reached over the table then. Her fingertips were gently brushing the back of Kate’s hand. A wicked smirk on her lips.

What the fuck???

He knew that smirk. How many times had she gazed at him like that? It wasn’t an innocent glance. It was a spell.

And it worked. Because Kate’s mouth formed that dangerous smile: sweet but mischievous as she bit her lower lip.

He knew that one too. And even though he was just an observer and not a recipient, that smile was still very effective.

Just fucking leave!

What were they doing? It couldn’t be what it looked like. Kate wasn’t into women. Siena maybe. He never asked. But not Kate. And what could they even like about each other?

They were doing this on purpose. That had to be it. They’d noticed him enter the bar and decided to vex him.

Yes.

It was the only explanation that made sense. If they did have something in common, it was their temper.

Content with his conviction, Anthony turned around and left the bar. He didn’t need to stick around to see if he was right. He knew he was. He didn’t need proof.
