tsukishima kei, at age 24, is about to attend his first wedding to someone his age.
“tsukki! toka-chan said yes!” is what he heard first thing in the morning while preparing for his day working at the museum.
“congratulations, when’s the wedding?” tsukishima was genuinely happy for his best friend, ever since yachi and yamaguchi became a couple when they were in high school, he immediately knew they were meant for each other.
if only his high school relationship went that way as well.
“well… her mom.. i mean… ma.. wants it to be a bit western, away from the traditional type of wedding, which is what toka-chan also wants.. hmm.. maybe two months from now? or a month! i’ll keep you updated! but anyways, you’ll be my best man of course!”
“of course, keep me updated. congratulations again.”
and with that, their call ended. tsukishima felt a sense of.. envy when high school couples actually worked it out instead of just breaking up.
if only kageyama fought harder for their relationship.
tsukishima just shakes his head, it’s been four years ever since their inevitable break up and he still finds himself missing kageyama almost every day. he had to block him on every social media platform for his sanity, as well as vowing not to be updated with japan’s national men volleyball team.
unfortunately, buried feelings grow, as their supposed eighth year anniversary is coming up soon, if they didn’t break up four years ago.
before leaving his apartment, a commercial for the upcoming documentary of the japan’s national men volleyball team as they recently won the olympics. and it just so happened that kageyama was on screen.
… wearing a familiar jacket.
at first glance, it just seemed like kageyama’s karasuno jacket, but tsukishima knew. they never returned their jackets to each other.
the letters “tk” were embroidered on the sleeve, people would probably pass it off by saying it stood for tobio kageyama, but tsukishima knew better.
that’s his jacket!
did kageyama purposely wear the jacket? what was his goal? was he also missing tsukishima?
so many questions and it was only eight am. tsukishima definitely needs two cups of coffee.

“are you really sure you can handle being at the same table as kageyama, tsukki?” it was a quiet sunday afternoon at yamaguchi’s apartment. tsukishima was there to help the couple finalize the invites and seating arrangement.
“all of karasuno are sitting all together, why should i be excluded?” tsukishima dodges the question.
“are you sure? i’m sure hinata would find a way to make you two sit together. he’ll probably try to play cupid.” yachi says, which everyone agreed with, it seems like something hinata would do.
“i’m fine, guys. just sit us at the same table. it’s not like we will end up kissing by the end of your wedding.”
spoiler alert: they did end up kissing by the end of the wedding.

it was finally the day of yamaguchi and yachi’s big day. while he was happy for his best friend, he had to brace himself to see ghosts of his past.
and to accept the reality that he and kageyama were the only couple who didn’t work out.
yamaguchi and yachi were getting married.
kiyoko and tanaka were already married.
asahi and nishinoya are still going strong, traveling the world together.
daichi and yui michimiya are still together.
even their coaches ukai and takeda were still together, they got together after tsukishima’s year graduated.
everyone was still together besides him and kageyama, and it hurts to know. and most importantly, it sucks! tsukishima feels like a loser.
whatever, it was a big day for his best friend and he’ll just suck it up.
the ceremony started and he had never seen a couple more suited for each other. yamaguchi was crying the whole time yachi was walking down the aisle, while tsukishima held back teasing him.
i guess getting married is really emotional, tsukishima thought.
he’s desperately trying not to find kageyama in the crowd, but he knows he’s here. tsukishima could always sense kageyama’s presence even from miles away.
it was finally time for the wedding reception… and tsukishima’s dreaded reunion. the last time they all gathered together was during tanaka and kiyoko’s wedding, and during that time, he and kageyama were still together.
“oi tsukishima! long time no see!” tanaka was the first to call his attention.
and that’s when he saw kageyama. he’s still as handsome as the day they parted ways.
“hi.” tsukishima awkwardly greets the group, only for nishinoya to laugh out loud.
“i missed your nonchalance! come on tsukishima! let’s go to the buffet! kageyama too! i bet you guys miss each other since tsukishima couldn’t sit beside us during the ceremony!”
wait a minute… were they not aware that they have already broken up?
well, it would make sense. they weren’t the type to even share details about their relationship. tsukishima didn’t tell anyone personally aside from yamaguchi and yachi…
“hi…” kageyama says, clearing his throat, “i think.. they don’t know. daichi-san asked me how we were earlier.. i didn’t get to tell them that-”
“don’t. don’t tell them.”
tsukishima honestly doesn’t know what came over him.
was it purely selfishness talking? maybe.
was it because he misses kageyama and wants him back? absolutely.
“o.. oh… if you say so..” kageyama couldn’t resist blushing. this was the first time they interacted since parting ways.
he didn’t wear tsukishima’s jacket on national television for nothing.
hinata was eavesdropping on their conversation and suddenly smiled. he knew those two were going to get back together! he also held himself back from telling anyone they had broken up years ago.
yamaguchi and yachi saw the two talking to each other and giggled with each other. they always wished for them to get back together.

an hour into the reception, alcohol was finally served and it was time for the real reunion to start.
daichi, asahi, and sugawara were catching up with ukai and takeda while sharing a drink. although ukai was silently monitoring his lover’s alcohol intake as he knew takeda had low alcohol tolerance.
tanaka, nishinoya, and hinata were having a drinking game, and were currently trying to drag yamaguchi into it.
yachi and kiyoko were catching up while eating sweets.
and… kageyama and tsukishima were kissing in the bathroom, both intoxicated.
“i missed you kei.. so much.”
“tobio.. me too…”
kageyama hugged tsukishima tightly just like how he used to when they were dating, “i’m staying at a nearby hotel..”
and when yamaguchi and yachi saw the two leave together, they just knew they were going to get an exciting morning call from tsukishima earlier.
“damn those lovebirds left early! they really missed each other!” sugawara jokes, pouring more alcohol into his shot glass. he rarely has the chance to drink due to his job, and he’s making the most out of his leave. “i’m telling you guys, the next wedding we are attending is theirs!”

tsukishima woke up with the worst headache of his life.
but he woke up in an unfamiliar hotel room.
completely naked, next to kageyama who was also completely naked.
he looked around, their clothes were scattered everywhere.
his neck had a lot of bitemarks, while kageyama had a lot of hickeys.
what the fuck happened last night…

“shit.” was the only thing tsukishima could say.
