Chapter 1: Prologue

Chapter Text

Author's note: was going to wait to post this until the new game came out but not delayed until next feb and I am pissed. Though, AO3 betrayed me by having the wrong hero title for Sparrow too that it makes me sad, but oh well, but either way I hope you enjoy this, I know fable is a dying fandom and I hope the new game brings it back to life a little.

A woman escaped through marshland of Wraithmarsh, wrapped in a torn and battered cloak of black, she stumbled down the hill that parted the port town of Bloodstone to the shadow-infested Wraithmarsh. The woman fell against the rocky hillside as she struggled to regain her breath, her lifeless blue-grey eyes glazed over the lawless town that lay outside of the Kings control – her one place of freedom. With a grunt, she pushed herself up and continued her way down.

The sun was barley risen when the woman reached the streets, but now at her destination – her body worn from running and her many injuries could hold her up no longer – causing her to collapse to the ground. She fought to keep her eyes open, but her fatigue consumed her as she fell unconscious.

Be careful honey. Don’t play near the dock, nor go near the Wraithmarsh path.” A young woman told her son. “Only the great hero is strong enough to safely travel that place.”

“Yeah-yeah, I know. See you later Mom!” The boy opened the front door and froze. “Mom, I think someone died outside again.” He called. His mother came to the door, it was bloodstone, and finding people dead on the street was not an uncommon occurrence. She knelt down to remove the hood to have a better look at the body and she gasped.

“It’s the hero, Robin.” She checked for a pulse, then called out for help. People were quick to come outside at the announcement that the hero who faced the pirate King with no fear and witty attitude was unconscious outside in the street, they were worried.

“Let’s get her inside. Can someone grab medical supplies?” Two men lifted her up carefully, the mother moved aside to allow them to bring the hero into her house. An Alchemist cleaned her wounds, before pouring a red colour potion on to them, then bandaging the wounds.

“She just needs to rest now, then she should be fine.” He said

“Thank you.” The mother smiled with a nod, her son sat at the table with one of the men that brought the hero in, they watched with worried expressions.

Later that day Robin opened her eyes, looking up at an unknown ceiling.  She quickly sat up, but immidately regretted the decision as her head began to spin.

“Careful hero, you were in pretty bad shape when we found you.” The mother approached her softly with a kind smile. Her son was watching Robin with wide eyes, Robin looked at them both looking confused.

“Wh-Where am I?” Robin asked. “I remember, running and fighting…everything else is hazy…”Robin rubbed her forehead.

“You’re in Bloodstone ma’am.” A man replied, he looked concerned. “We’ve heard rumours, ma’am…about your brother.”

“I guess, my brother is king… but I never sought to destroy Albion, I would never harm…” Robins began, but she was stopped by the mother.

“Oh, we know.” She smiled. “You were the only one helping around here, and you saved us, and we – the people of Bloodstone only recognise you as the hero of Bower Lake.”

“This is Bloodstone, hero, you’ll be safe here. We prefer you much more over that brother of yours.” The man grinned.

“Now, enough of this talk, you need to eat.” The mother placed a bowl of soup on the table. “You look half starved; you need your strength.” Robin joined the man and son at the table. She happily began to eat; it had been a long while since she had the chance to eat.

“Now, you’re going to need a place to stay…” The man mumbled lightly.

“Well, is Reaver’s manor vacant?” Robins asked

“Yes, but he…” He began.

“I can deal with Reaver at least, he owes me anyway.” Robins finished the soup. “Thank you, for all your care. I am not sure how I can repay you…”

“You don’t need too. Everyone in town was really worried about you.” The mother smiled. “You just need to be a little more careful and ask for help if you need it.”

“I will and thank you again.” Robin found herself smiling, maybe she would be safe there after all.
