Mink couldn’t believe that Dick Saucer had bailed on the tournament! Of course it made sense that he had to leave to go prepare for a concert, but how could she prove what a good match she was for him!? Even if she could find a way to overcome being half-dragon, like that potion, she’d still have to find him.
Mink let out an exasperated sigh.
“How am I ever going to find Dick Saucer like this? And I don’t even have the Pido Potion yet!” she asked with a puffed out cheeks, her proportions and art style changing appropriately to match this exasperated cutaway.
Just as a scene transition was about to happen, a hand appeared from off screen to push the transition back and keep the scene going. It’s chibi-Vina!
“Not so fast,” said Vina. “Isn’t the focus on the Pido Potion supposed to be a manga-only element? I think most of the mentions of it got cut from episodes 1 and 2 of the OVA (which never got more episodes).”
“What?” asked Mink.
“Well, as a dirty peasant, there’s no point for you trying to understand my metatextual commentary,” said Vina, who had now returned to her normal art style. “But leaving all that aside, you and I need to travel in the same direction now to pursue Dick. How about we set our differences as filthy peasant (you) and president of the Dick Saucer fan club (me) aside and travel together? That will give us lots of chances for me to betra- er, befriend you. And-totally-not-because-of-unresolved-sexual-tension.”
“What was that last bit?” asked Mink.
“Don’t worry about it,” said Vina.
“Sounds great to me!” said Mink. She was happy to have made a new friend/love interest/potential betrayer.
Later that day, they were stopped at an inn along the road. This would be a perfect time for a sudden but inevitable betrayal, Vina decided. It wouldn’t be very difficult to find a time Mink was away from Lufa (not that Lufa is all that skilled of a combatant) and it would be a simple matter to just slip her a sleeping potion. Vina wasn’t entirely sure what would work on a half-dragon. Injury to herself would cause her to revert form, but Mink probably wasn’t naturally a shapeshifter.
As they sat together at the table, Mink began discussing some kind of argument between her parents. The way she made it sound, they were always fighting. As she did so, Vina got ready to slip the sleeping potion into the tea kettle.
“And when I came home, most of the house was destroyed!” said Mink. “Honestly, can you believe it? I bet your parents never fight that way.”
“Actually, most of the relevant information about my parents is manga-only, which means we’re probably not going to talk about it here,” said Vina. “Though again, that’s getting a bit meta.”
“What?” asked Mink, now in chibi mode.
“What?” asked Vina, giving a guileless (but really quite guileful) expression in response.
This would have been the perfect moment for Vina to slip the potion into the tea kettle, Mink had already poured cups of tea for both of them. Curses, foiled again by that peasant’s kindness!
Another day, they were accosted in the road by one of Vina’s dad’s warriors. Like a typical warrior, he was completely and totally incompetent. His method of attack was an enormous net he planned to throw over the travellers, with weighted balls on the end.
As he jumped up and threw the weighted net overhead, Vina let out a sigh of disappointment. “You dare to attack me?” she asked, and watched as the warrior realized his horrible mistake.
She got ready to summon a golem to block the net, but before she could, Mink jumped forward, and in an incredible feat of strength, kicked the net so hard it disintegrated! The shockwaves of the kick were so strong that Vina was knocked over and extremely embarrassingly reverted into slime form! It was the worst! Augh! So embarrassing!
“Oh no!” said Mink. She ran over to Vina-the-slime and crouched down.
Mink had initially planned to chase after the warrior and destroy him with a physical attack, but she was distracted by her travelling companion’s sudden transformation into a slime. The warrior quickly made his exit, having realized just how perilous his position was.
They made their way back to the inn, and Vina was able to recover and use her magic to regain her human form. Luckily this kind of thing only takes 13 years the first time, but it was still very embarrassing!
“It usually takes quite a shock for that to happen to me,” said Vina. She found it very embarrassing. She suspected that Dick Saucer might be as intolerant of a slime as he was a dragon, and it could be a problem even if she could keep up the transformation 99% of the time.
Mink didn’t seem to mind, though. She had already ordered some food, and barely mentioned it. Perhaps being half-dragon gives one an insight into this kind of thing. The girls shared a dinner together. If this were a manga, this would be the perfect moment for a cutaway panel of them eating and sharing food, maybe at the corner at the bottom of the page.
Vina spent some time considering what she really wanted. And maybe so did Mink!
They chatted as they ate, and when dessert came. Vina noticed that Mink had poured a little bit of tea for both of them again.
“Thank you,” said Vina. “For taking me back, and for pouring some tea for me as well. It’s very thoughtful of you.”
“I don’t mind it at all!” said Mink. “I’ve enjoyed travelling with you a lot.”
Mink leaned forward and kissed Vina on the cheek.
It wasn’t a physical attack, but it took all of Vina’s magical fortitude and focus to avoid dissolving into a slime right then and there.
She blushed and smiled. Maybe falling behind a day on their journey to pursue Dick Saucer wasn’t so bad after all.
