Chapter Text
The Snow Queen. A name that was known everywhere. A woman so cold hearted she could control winter itself. A lot of things can come to a person’s mind when they think of her, vicious, heartless, cruel, a whole list of terrible adjectives.
But mother was certainly not one anyone expected. Least of all her-
She didn’t expect one day to find two beautiful white haired, pale skinned, blue eyed babies on her doorstep. Features that were near identical to hers. She had looked down at the two for a long moment. They were sleeping peacefully, holding each other in an embrace.
She saw the note on the basket they were in, she read through it and found that these two babies… were hers..
She didn’t know what to do! She couldn’t possibly take care of two living beings! The last time she tried to take care of just one she forgot about him and he nearly froze to death in her castle! (A fact that she was not proud of-)
But… what could she do..? Leave her flesh and blood out in the unforgiving cold to fend for themselves..? She has made many cruel things in the past but that would just be straight up barbaric!
So, she did what she had to do. She scooped them both out of the basket, they didn’t even flinch when they made contact with her cold skin… suppose it makes sense that her children wouldn’t be affected.
Her… children… as she walked through the halls of her desolate palace it sunk in that she was now a mother.. The Snow Queen.. a mother.. it was a laughable thought honestly, but as she looked down at the sleeping tots in her arms she knew that they were where they needed to be.
As she walked she thought about giving them names.. remembering her own as well… Frigid Frost. A name the man in the moon gave to her hundreds of years ago. she didn’t use it anymore, The Snow Queen was a title people found most fitting, as did she.
She found a room that could be used as a makeshift nursery until the two children had a proper place to sleep, she created a crib out of ice and a small mattress of snow and placed the two babies in it, still holding one another. She found herself smiling down at them, as she continued to think of their names she felt a dark presence in the room. Not unfamiliar with the feeling the queen turned to the source of the disturbance.
A tall man, dressed in a cloak as black the night sky with deathly pale skin, not unlike her own, and dimly golden eyes swirling with black stepped out of the shadows. The queen looked at him like he was the scum of the earth and gave him an ice cold stare.
“Pitch.” She spat the name with venom. Inching closer to the crib to put herself between him and the babies.
“What are you doing here? You know damn well that you aren’t allowed here.” He feigned a hurt look as he walked closer to her.
“Oh I’m hurt, despite your nature I expected a warmer welcome from an old friend.” She continued to glare at him, tracking his movements like a hawk tracking a mouse through a field. But there was an overwhelming sense that he was not the mouse in this situation.
“We were never friends. I merely entertained your antics during the dark ages. When you actually were a worthy ally.” For a moment he had a wistful smile on his face, before it quickly manifested into a dark scowl.
“Ah the dark ages… those were the days weren’t they? We ruled with an iron fist of fear and—“
“You did. You ruled. You just used me as a little tool to make sure everyone was cold and fearful. I am no fool, I learned my lesson. I refuse to work with you anymore. Especially since you lost your power after the guardians put a stop to your little game.” He gave her a look of irritation, she took a little pride in it. But he just sighed and returned to a frustratingly neutral face.
“Sure, but regardless, I am not here to ask anything of you. I’m here to congratulate you on your little… surprises.” She protectively stood in front of them.
“Whatever your planning, leave them out of it. They will take no part in your schemes. Do whatever you want I don’t care but you will leave here and never return.” She snapped at him. But he didn’t look very phased.
“In time they will, whether you like it or not, you of all people should know that you can’t change destiny.” He grinned darkly at her. She felt a rage bubble in her, summoning an ice blade she took a swing at him but he easily stepped out of the way.
“Destiny always leads to fear dear Frigid, it’s time you understand that..” he stepped into the shadows and just like that he was gone, she stared at where he was, if she was alive her heart would be pounding in her chest.
She ran to the babies in the crib, still miraculously sleeping. She looked down at them protectively holding their faces.
“Don’t worry you two… no one will dare hurt you…. For as long as I-..” she was cut off by a moonbeam shining through the window, beaming down on the babies like a spotlight, highlighting their frosty features. She looked up at the source of the light, the moon shining brightly.
“Jack and Gale…? That.. sounds perfect..” she smiled at the moon like an old friend, caressing the babies’ hair.
“They’re perfect..”
