Work Text:
The shouts and whispers from his classmates filled his brain, he felt nauseous, and his head spun in complex patterns. Someone approached him but he couldn't look up at them without throwing up, “suki?” it was said in a rude, demanding voice and he felt even worse at the sound of that name being addressed to him.
He looked up and through the fog of a headache to the face of someone he had a not so sweet relationship with, he tried to tell her to fuck off but all that came out was “fushoos,” it was apparently not enough, as his tormentor simply laughed and patted his shoulder, that may not sound like a bad thing but it kinda is if the person has a spike quirk.
Luckily it was almost time for school to end, and eventually a ring sounded throughout the building alerting them that school was coming to a close. He stood up and walked over to the door, not before picking up his bag with his not hurt arm, and left the place behind for the weekend ahead of him.
When he got home he started studying. He was studying for the u.a entrance exam which was, according to the internet, very difficult to pass. He also just wasn’t very good at school.
…
It was the day of the entrance exam and he was walking over there right now! He thought excitedly, the steady thump thump thump thump of his sneakers tapping the concrete underfoot being a comforting presence.
When he eventually arrived at his destination he could practically feel the blood being pumped constantly and consistently throughout his body. He looked up and walked into a large building where there was already a few hundred people sitting in the rows of seats that surrounded the stage in the center of the room.
In the span of about five minutes all of the seats had been filled and it was clear that the
“HELLLLOOOO” an impossibly loud voice rang out across the stadium, and it seemed to be emanating from a man who stood lone on the stage. “CAN I GET A YYEEEEEAAHHHHH?!?!?!?!” the man said head banging to a non-existent beat,
It was quiet in the stadium, the man looked around at them seemingly disappointed that no one was responding, they were all too nervous to say anything. “Well that was rude” the man said at a slightly less ear-piercing volume, although still loud enough that we could all hear him clearly.
…
The next few minutes were just him explaining the rules of the game with only one interruption from some guy wearing glasses, and the muttering of a green haired boy who was reprimanded by said glasses guy. They had already completed the written portion of the test so all they had to do now was the physical bit.
…
He looked up at the giant robots raging around the fake city, there was no chance he could get in, his quirk was not suited to this test. He decided to just stand there not particularly wanting to waste his strength on something he was sure he would fail at anyway.
But we have to try, he thought to himself.
But I don't want to, came the reply from his head.
Please just listen to me, he begged.
I won’t, came the reply.
But we have to, he argued.
No we don’t, it demanded.
I know we don't have to but I want to, he tried desperately.
Well then you suck at grammer, it snarked back.
I know I do but that isn’t important right now, he protested.
Neither is this test, it said.
Fuck off, he cried.
Jeez ok, it said softer than last time.
Those words echoed in his mind while he tried to earn some points for himself in the test. Almost as though taunting him with their presence.
A buzzer rang out signalling the end of the test. He hadn’t earned any points.
He walked home that evening knowing that that had been his one chance to prove himself.
He laid down on his bed, not bothering to eat dinner, and let silent tears fall from his eyes.
…
Fucking hell. I really am messed up. He thought.
Yeah i know, it said.
And who’s fault is that exactly? He questioned.
Yours, it said wryly.
Oh wow and you don’t think it could be anyone else's fault? He grumbled
It was silent after that, just the slight breathing and slight thump from his chest being noticeable.
