The Protector of the Happily Ever After

Summary:

Ruskin thinks that Mr. Milverton pays too much attention to William James Moriarty.

Work Text:

"Thank you, Ruskin." Charles Augustus Milverton said to his secretary after he put down the tray with the delicious strawberry cake in front of him. He didn't even look up to inspect it or to praise Ruskin, and instead of asking him to stay like he usually did, he gestured at the door. "Withdraw for now."

"Yes, sir." Ruskin replied obediently while the pain awakened in his heart. With slow steps, he walked to the door, hoping that Mr. Milverton would change his mind and ask him to remain there in the end, but since this didn't happen, Ruskin looked back for once with sorrow. Mr. Milverton still didn't raise his head from the documents he kept browsing. His favourite dessert was like it didn't even exist, it had no place in his mind... nor had Ruskin. Ruskin let out a sigh and closed the door behind himself. But for a few minutes, he didn't leave - he stayed there and tried to recall how their once so beautiful life turned upside down. He didn't even need to think for long, he knew it well.

With William James Moriarty.

One of Mr. Milverton's evil plans got ruined by the mathematician professor and ever since then, Mr. Milverton was seeking revenge. He was always like that, never allowing for anyone to impede his plans or take the control away from him. Ruskin was aware of his employer's bloodthirsty nature and it never bothered him before. He thought that this case will be the same for Mr. Milverton, who will slowly but steadily build up his revenge plan and their life will change nothing while he does so. However, for some reason William James Moriarty turned out to be different and Mr. Milverton's thoughts were completely occupied by him, leaving no place for the other things he loved. Blackmail. Strawberry cake. And... Ruskin.

Ruskin covered his face from despair. He loved Mr. Milverton from all his heart, worshipping him like he was his god. He became ecstatic when his employer let him know that he was allowed to love him. Ruskin slept with Mr. Milverton, he could kiss him or fulfill the man's sexual desires. There was no happier man in the world than Ruskin - until William James Moriarty came to their life and took everything away. A tear ran down on Ruskin's face. Nowadays, Mr. Milverton didn't hug Ruskin back in the bed and his mind was elsewhere when they kissed. He didn't even compliment his strawberry cake. His thoughts were all taken over by one person - this damn William James Moriarty! Ruskin was devoted to the core to his employer, but in return, he wanted to get Mr. Milverton's full attention. But ever since William James Moriarty cut into their relationship out of nowhere, Ruskin felt like he needed to share Mr. Milverton. When Mr. Milverton should belong to him - and only to him!

Ruskin sensed as the sorrow he felt over the situation turned to burning anger inside him. How dare William James Moriarty do this to them? He was trying to take his beloved Mr. Milverton away from him! Ruskin's jealousy was always stronger than his rational senses and now, it left no time to think the matter through. Mr. Milverton had a reason to fake revenge on William James Moriarty - but now, so did Ruskin. And his vengeance will be bloodier and more merciless than his employer would ever be.

When Ruskin finally uncovered his face, his eyes were glowing in a strange light. He walked away on the corridor with determination. He knew what he should do.

"Mr. Milverton, I have a gift for you." Ruskin announced a few days later and he was smiling widely while he brought the box to the desk.

"Really, Ruskin? What is it?" Mr. Milverton asked, but he didn't look up. Ruskin knew didn't mind it. He was aware that he will make his employer raise his head - when he raises another.

"Take a guess, sir. What do you want the most at the moment?" Ruskin tilted his head and he opened the box, ready to act.

"To punish William James Moriarty." Mr. Milverton murmured angrily. Ruskin nodded and his eyes shone up.

"Then your wish is fulfilled, sir - because I did it for you!"

He took out something from the box and he showed it to his employer with a cheerful expression on his face.

That finally caught Mr. Milverton's attention who stared at Ruskin's gift with his mouth open wide. Ruskin saw that he started turning to pale. Knowing that Mr. Milverton was not fond of seeing severed body parts from a close view, he quickly hid William James Moriarty's lifeless head back to the box. Mr. Milverton blinked and shook his own head.

"You... killed him for me?" He asked with disbelief. Ruskin enthusiastically nodded again.

"For us, sir. You... you could only think of him in the last few days. I couldn't bear it anymore." He admitted and gently covered Mr. Milverton's cheeks with his palms. "He was evil and tried to take you away from me. I almost lost you, Mr. Milverton. I needed to act before it was too late!" He told his employer with passion and he looked into the golden eyes deeply. What he saw there was a slight dissatisfaction, but it was what Ruskin expected. He knew that he wanted to personally punish William James Moriarty and he hated even if it was Ruskin who took the control away from him. But Ruskin was too obsessed with his employer to care. He wanted to keep Mr. Milverton at all cost.

"Now, you are mine and only mine again." He noted with deep love in his heart. "Our happily ever after is protected. I'd rather kill us both than share you with someone, sir." He whispered and covered Mr. Milverton's mouth with a kiss while his fingers were caressing the man's neck with the same movement he cut down the third wheel's head.
