No More Bad Days

Summary:

After he eventually did he looked around taking in his environment. Blue roses. So many blue roses.

The exact same ones he saw as he was bleeding out on the cold floor. Unlike back home where it was cold, winter still holding nature in its grasp, this place was warm and fuzzy. Like a faraway dream he once had.

Flowers moved with the one beside him, tickling his legs with their slow dance.

Notes:

this is an alt ending to my fic 'as the seasons change i pray that you are still with me' so it would probably be understood better if that fic was read before this one

Work Text:

Light. Light so blinding it hurt the eyes. Wind gently swayed, moving through the strands of Isagi's hair. He squinted trying to get used to the brightness of the place he was in.

Flowers moved, the ones beside him tickling his legs with their slow dance. Isagi moved his hand up reaching for the area of his neck that he sliced. Indeed there was a gash there. He pulled his hand away disguisted at the feeling of the wound.

Despite still being on his neck it wasn't bleeding. It just stood there like a cruel reminder of what happened. Of what he did to himself.

His hand dropped loosely next to his side as his gaze snapped up. Eyes searching the field for the blonde, they didn't search for long though. He spotted Kaiser rather quickly. Standing a few paces ahead of him with his back turned.

Isagi just watched him for a bit. His blonde hair was illuminated by whatever this holy light was making it seem like pure threaded gold. He wore his uniform yet despite going through war with it there wasn't a single crinkle on it rather it looked pristine. Untouched. Powerful just like the man who wore it.

The Japanese man slowly walked forward, steps careful and precise. Making sure he doesn't sting himself on any of the thorns the roses had.

Kaiser didn't seem to hear him. Or maybe he just pretended he never heard him. Isagi gently reached his hand out, touching the blue petals with reverence. Unlike the usual texture of petals these ones felt like silk. Pure and beautiful.

Isagi creeped a bit closer and just as he was about to scare the blonde Kaiser turned around. Light blue met darker blue and they stayed like that.

Kaiser holding Isagi's wrist. The smaller man's fingers twitched in his grip. Now that the blonde was turned towards him he could see three clear bullet wounds adoring his chest. One right above his heart, one next to his right collarbone and the last one on his left shoulder.

Just like Isagi's wound, not one of them was bleeding. They just stood there frozen in time.

“Yoichi-...” Kaiser's mouth fell open. His eyes moved from Isagi's eyes to the gaping wound on his neck.

Isagi could clearly see the cogs turning in his head as he connected the dots of what happened. “You got my letter right?” The smaller man just nodded. Tongue too heavy to form proper and actual words.

“Good. Good. Why.. I…” Kaiser bit his lip, pulling Isagi into his embrace. Isagi melted into it. Wasn't that odd? Two ghosts or maybe rather souls meeting in the afterlife just so they could hug. Kaiser's body should have been cold like that of any dead man but it was hot, even burning to touch.

Isagi found it nice though. He missed the German’s warmth greatly.

“Why are you here?” The blonde finally managed to mutter out. “You should be with your parents-... Taking care of the inn and, and…” Kaiser's breathing became uneven. His breaths were short and sharp while his blue eyes darted around. Looking anywhere but at Isagi.

“Calm down Mihya. Breathe with me yea?” Kaiser did. Following Isagi's lead. Breathe in, breathe out and repeat. Isagi rubbed comforting circles on Kaiser's back until the blonde's breathing calmed down and his posture relaxed.

Once he was calm enough, Isagi spoke up again. “How could I live in a world without you in it?”

“But you had so much to live for! Family, friends!! I, on the other hand, a nonhuman freak, deserved nothing but death…” Kaiser swallowed hard. Shaking his head. “I need to apologize. To you. Properly.”

Kaiser suddenly pushed him off, taking a few steps back. Isagi stared at him, hands frozen midair, eyes wide and filled with a raw type of sadness.

“I am sorry for staining you with my dirty mudded hands. You deserved, no you still deserve, the world Yoichi. The world and so much more. But I don't think I'll ever be able to give you what you want. I am dirty and a freak. These hands of mine should have never touched something as holy as you.” Kaiser's voice broke by the end of his monologue. Lower lip trembling as he mumbled out another quiet ‘Im sorry’.

Isagi stared at him. At the bastard who used to be so cocky and full of himself now breaking down.

“You are human.” His tone was calm and sure. Dark blue eyes never moving away from Kaiser's form. He came closer putting Kaiser's bangs behind his ear. “And you aren't dirty.”

“How do you know? There's so much I never told you about myself. Why? Cause im a bitch that's wh-” Isagi cut him off. Placing a finger over his lips effectively shutting him up.

“Only humans are scared of not being human enough. That's all the proof I need.” The hand that was pressed over Kaiser's lips now moved lower tracing his neck. Kaiser leaned into the touch letting Isagi give him small scratches. “I don't care if you never told me everything. You don't need to say it all at once. I'll wait for you Mihya. Always.”

Kaiser's own hand came up to clasp over Isagi's. Giving it a gentle squeeze.

“I missed you so much.”

“I missed you too Mihya.” Isagi gave him a gentle smile. “Every day I'd wait by the window for the mailman to bring me letters. Hoping to see your handwriting on the pile.”

The German grinned. The grin Isagi missed so terribly. He didn't change one hit. Not even in death.

He was still the same Mihya. The same one Isagi fell head over heels for despite his better judgement. Suddenly Isagi gripped onto the collar of Kaiser's uniform, pulling him down into a kiss. Kaiser kissed back immediately, arms wrapping around Isagi's back. His lips were soft, Isagi noted.

A taste of something sweet and sugary on them with a tinge of alcohol between it. It was a nice combination.

They broke apart to breathe their noses brushing against one another as they stood there. Soft wind continued its gentle dance and Isagi pulled Kaiser closer. Wanting to be consumed by his warmth and body. Being close to the German wasn't enough. Isagi wanted to become a part of him. To never let go.

Kaiser gently pecked his neck, making Isagi giggle. “That tickles!”

He felt Kaiser smile against his neck now peppering little pecks everywhere he could manage. Isagi continued to laugh, dull nails digging into the back of Kaiser's neck. The German let out a content sigh.

“This place is very odd for the afterlife.” Isagi managed to say through bursts of little giggles. “With the roses and all…”

“Blue roses are a symbol for something impossible. I think it's fitting.”

“Didnt think of you as a poet.” Isagi joked, rolling his eyes.

“Im not.”

“Sure if it helps you sleep at night- Hey!” Kaiser smiled, hoisting Isagi up into his arms. Isagi let out a little yelp, arms flying out to hold onto Kaiser's shoulders. “Dont drop me you asshole!”

“Wouldnt dream of it.” Isagi let his head rest on Kaiser's shoulder. He knew the German would never drop him. Not on purpose at least.

“Did it hurt..?” The question was sudden and sheepish, Isagi knew but it still left his mouth. “To die I mean.”

Kaiser shrugged jostling Isagi a bit. “I don't remember. All I remember is thinking of you.”

“Corny bastard.” Isagi hit his shoulder gently. Blush crept up on his face though. Like a schoolgirl after her crush confessed his love to her.

“Did you feel pain?” Kaiser reciprocated the question, light blue eyes filled with worry.

“For a bit yea.” The German pressed a kiss to his temple. Lips gentle and tentative.

“Im sorry.”

“Stop apologizing.” Telling Kaiser to stop apologizing felt wrong. If you told Isagi while he was still alive he'd ever say that he would have thought you went mad.

But here he was. Telling the Michael Kaiser he was apologizing too much. The world really was full of twists.

“So how long will we be here?”

“Eh, I don't know. As long as I'm with you I wouldn't mind if it was forever.”

“Not a poet my ass.” Isagi mumbled. Sticking his tongue out. Kaiser just smiled, lips pressing against his temple again.

Roses continued to gently sway around them. The sun gleaming against the petals, giving them a godly kind of shine. He wiggled in Kaiser's grasp, leaning down from his arms just enough to rip a rose out.

He turned it in his fingers for a bit. Looking at it from every angle. Kaiser shot him a confused look but Isagi ignored it. Once he decided the rose was good enough he placed it behind Kaiser's ear. It matched his eyes almost perfectly. Making them stand out on his face even more.

“There. Now you look even more beautiful.”

And Kaiser just smiled, pulling him into another kiss.
