Notes:

I just discovered a cover of "For the dancing and the dreaming" and couldn't help but make it supercorp.

First posted on Tumblr.

Enjoy your read!

Work Text:

The first time Lena heard this song, Kara was making her sit through the whole How to train your dragon saga. She liked it immediately. Kara instantly noticed how Lena seemed to like the song and the dancing so much. She then took it upon herself to learn the dance to be able to make Lena swing on the song.

The second time Lena heard it, Kara had insisted on surprising her with something. To Lena's delights, Kara was singing and dancing on the song. She soon gestured for Lena to join her in her dancing. The song ended far too soon for both their liking. Happy smiles plastered all over their faces they made dinner and followed through their evening.

The third to eighth time, Lena was learning the lyrics to surprise Kara. She wanted to sing it with her at the next karaoke night.

Therefore, the ninth time Lena heard the song, she was the one requesting it. She also was the one surprising Kara when she gestured for her to join her on stage. They ended their performance dancing, feeling like they were alone in the world.

By the twentieth time Lena heard the song it was becoming a habit between Kara and her. Once in a while they would dance and sing to it together. They did it during slow, rainy, afternoons, during snowy evenings with comfy socks, during sunny days at the park...

The fiftieth time Lena heard it, they were back at karaoke night with the gang. Kara requested it this time. She was bouncing with anticipation. That was intriguing to Lena, it really wasn't the first time they would sing it together, either with or without an audience. It all made sense when Kara stopped mid-swing to kneel and present her with both a ring and a bracelet. They were dating for almost two years now but Lena still was stunned by the sight of Kara proposing to her. She accepted of course!

The seventy fifth time they played their song was for their first dance as spouses. They knew everything by heart by now but still felt like the song was too short.

Kara couldn't remember how many times she heard this song, but the last time she heard it was engraved in her brain for ever. It was at Lena's funeral. After a lifetime together she never had the strength to hear it ever again.

Notes:

Sorry for the end, I was feeling sentimental.
