Sitting quietly near the lake Sonic watched the water gently splash against the rocks near his feet. He and his family had come to have a little picnic but he wasn’t really interested in eating for his attention was drawn to something buzzing around him.
“Hey bud, what are you doing?”
Pausing for a moment Sonic glanced back to see a man walking towards him making him smile slightly.
“Hey Tom.” He greeted, turning his attention to his arm. “I’m just watching them explode.”
“What?” Tom questioned, stepping over and kneeling next to Sonic.
“Watch.” Sonic pointed at the mosquito flying around with its annoying little buzzing that foretold of a soon to be itchy area though Sonic wasn’t necessarily aware of that since he usually got them before it could get itchy.
Watching quietly they saw the bug land on Sonic’s arm where it got settled and ready for what was to come next. With that the bug got the right position before biting into the arm to suck his blood like any other mosquito but unfortunately this bug had bitten the wrong individual for once it got past Sonic’s skin it was immediately greeted with more blood than it wanted for the pulse was too fast and in just a millisecond the bug was full without sucking and still it was filled till it soon exploded.
Shocked Tom stared at the slight mess in dumbfounded silence though soon another came along meeting the same result which Sonic apparently found amusing though it seemed he was used to watching them pop like that for he wasn’t disturbed by it then again those blood sucking bugs deserved nothing more than to be a mess.
“Sonic.. that is slightly unsettling.” Tom mumbled.
“Heh, yeah but I’ve watched them pop a lot.” Sonic chuckled. “I kind of Feel a bit bad for them though, but they won’t leave me alone so they kind of deserve it I guess.”
“Well, I suppose it’s no worse than swatting them.” Tom scratched his head before getting up.
“Wait.. you’re supposed to smack them?” Sonic wondered, looking up at him. “Why don’t you just watch them pop?”
“We don’t have a fast pulse.” Tom stated the obvious.
“But if they pop it is their own doing.” Sonic pointed out, watching another explode. “But I can see why everyone smacks them.”
“They do have a tendency to interrupt things.” Tom agreed. “And they cause an itch.”
“Hey Sonic!” Tails called from the picnic table. “Don’t you want any bug spray?”
“Nah, I’m good.” Sonic waved off.
“Why?” Tails wondered, noticing Sonic seemed a bit distracted.
“I’m being entertained.” Sonic explained.
Tails tilted his head slightly before looking at Knuckles questioningly but he simply shook his head and got up, they both then headed over to Sonic who was watching a mosquito fly around though Knuckles suddenly reached out and grabbed the bug where he crushed it.
“Knux!” Sonic snapped. “That isn’t fair!”
“What isn’t?” Tails queried, glancing at the mosquito Knuckles dusted off his hand.
“I have stopped the enemy from pursuing its mission to drain you of your life’s liquid.” Knuckles announced.
“But I want it to.” Sonic informed him.
“Why?” Tails inquired. “Don’t you know they could be carrying diseases?”
“Honestly I’m more worried about them than myself.” Sonic shrugged though he paused noticing their confused expressions. “Here just watch this.”
Unsure they watched as Sonic waited for one to land on him where it tried its luck on getting some blood from the blue hedgehog who simply watched as it was quickly filled before it too exploded making blood splatter a little over a few centimeters.
“Whoa!” Tails exclaimed. “How is that possible?!”
“You must teach us this technique hedgehog.” Knuckles demanded, sitting next to Sonic as Tails sat on the other side.
“I don’t know how to teach it, I just have a fast pulse.” Sonic told them. “But maybe you have a fast one too?”
“No.. they just fly off with our blood.” Tails sighed. “And they leave a terrible itch.”
“I am not affected by their potent sting.” Knuckles put off. “They are simply unworthy opponents who deserve to be brought down by our superior strength and might.”
“Okay…” Sonic blinked before looking at the mosquitos flying around. “Do you have a way you usually do it?”
“Ha, watch.” Knuckles held out his arm to wait for a mosquito to land.
Once one landed and got settled they watched as it began to suck though Knuckles suddenly tensed making his muscles flex effectively catching the mosquito where the echidna used his other hand to swat it.
“Cool!” Sonic grinned.
“I think I’ll stick with bug spray.” Tails decided. “I don’t want to risk being itchy.”
“That’s okay.” Sonic reassured him. “But you can at least watch.”
“Yeah.” Tails smiled.
Without another word they all quietly watched as the mosquitos fell like bug soldiers to the ground where other mosquitos took their place only to come to the same fate in a small bloody mess on the battlefield.
A bit disturbed Tom turned and left them in silence where he sat down at the picnic table. “That’s something you don’t see everyday..”
“They are just being kids.” Maddie stated, watching the three mobians have their.. weird little entertainment.
“Yeah.. you’re right.” Tom sighed. “But it would be faster to just swat the mosquitos.”
Maddie smiled slightly in amusement before getting lunch ready as Tom helped, allowing their kids to play.
The end.
