Work Text:
She can’t be the only one left. Kaitlyn knows Dylan and Abi are dead because she saw (or heard) them get mauled to death by werewolves. But the others… maybe they’re still alive.
So, Kaitlyn waits in the lodge, hunched on the floor with her back against the wall. She waits for Ryan and Laura to come back from the creepy Hackett house. When the sun rises, light filtering into the building, she waits for Nick to turn back to normal and stumble into the lodge (and she doesn’t know how to talk to him about Abi). Or the other no-show counsellor (Max, was it?) who was on the island. He’ll appear, right? And Emma and Jacob are out there somewhere.
Any minute now, one of her friends will bang on the barricaded door and ask to come in. They must. She can’t be alone.
She even goes to the freezer and eases the door open, hopeful that maybe the werewolf was one of her friends. But all she finds is a naked, sobbing Caleb Hackett, somehow invulnerable to the cold, and they stare at each other for a long moment. Kaitlyn should be happy to see another living person, but… was Caleb the one who tore Dylan to shreds up in that crane? Caleb doesn’t speak, and neither does she. So, Kaitlyn goes back out to her new favourite spot, and continues to watch the front door. Waiting for her friends to come back.
But as time goes by and nobody shows up, Kaitlyn realises that she really might be all alone. She doesn’t want to accept it, aware she’s in denial but not willing to stop, because the truth terrifies her.
What will she do if the fucking police show up? Or more Hacketts? She can’t handle this alone.
Tears burn her eyes and Kaitlyn sighs, swiping at her face with a filthy, trembling hand. She doesn’t want to fucking cry. There’s no need to cry. Because the others aren’t dead. They’re not. They’ll be here any second now and then she’ll look fucking stupid for crying when she’s fine and nobody is dead and they’re all going to be okay.
She sighs.
She’s so fucked.
Before she can stop it, a sob escaped her. Arms wrap around herself as Kaitlyn begins to cry, tears streaming down her face.
Because her friends are dead. And she’s all alone.
