Work Text:
Luluci checks on Galga the same way she does Eryenne. Through reports she doesn't need to read, rumors, and quick glances when they pass in the streets. They last no more than a second and she doesn't allow herself to linger, doesn't let them see her.
From these shes gathered; Galga has become an apprentice under Atwert, despite the lack of memory he's doing well, his magic isn't perfect, the joy isn't there anymore, but the muscle memory carries him through. Eryenne had become a master, her apprentice is a smart girl who's been speeding through the tests, she comes from a similar background to them, she plans to take on more.
She's on her last patrol of the night when she sees them. Galga and Eryenne are standing by a booth that sells hand carved home decorations, it used to be Galga’s favorite place to shop. Eryenne is holding one of the statues, turning it over in her hand as they talk about something Luluci cant make out. Galga laughs at something Eryenne says. Luluci walks away.
The next time she runs into them is in the cafeteria. She had wanted to clear her head, get away from the chaos that was the Knights Moralis quarters after Easthies had been fired. She just managed to get her food when she spots them. They are both eating the same thing Luluci had got, sitting in the same spot her and Eryenne used to sit in as kids.
Eryenne is hunched over critiquing a spell Galga is working on. It's a simple light spell, Eryenne has always been good at them. A pen stroke and both their faces light up, then they are absorbed in conversation again. Luluci eats in her office.
The third time she runs into them is at the bar she and Galga use to visit after long days of work. The two of them are sitting at the bar, Galga has his usual mug of beer, and Eryenne, who she never thought would be a drinker, is three sleeves down. She is on the other end of the bar, if she wants to get out without being noticed she will have to wait for the bartender to come to them.
So she waits, and she watches. Watches as they talk and laugh, how Eryenne shares about her apprentice's most recent achievement, a contraption that with some work can be used to help in large scale construction. Galga talks about his progress in his studies, how he and Atwert had gotten back together and are navigating his memory loss one day at a time.
Something ugly stirs in her gut. She can't handle waiting anymore. She gets up and goes to leave the bar, not bothering to see if they will notice her.
“Luluci?”
She walks out the door.
