Just another day in A&E

Work Text:

Martha loved her work, she loved being a Doctor, she loved saving lives, and she loved the A&E. Usually. There had been a superpowered fight in the city, and Tish’d called her to give fair warning. So, they’d been chockablock all day.
“Jane Smith?” Martha stepped into the small emergency bay, and concealed her shock as only years of medical training allowed her to. Smith looked more like a grape than a woman, and the file described a broken shoulder, leg, and concussion.

Smith smiled slightly, “Hi.”
Simply speaking seemed to pain her, which was not a surprise in the slightest, having read her medical chart.
Martha started to run over the standard checks, operating as expected, when the file caused her to pause.
Jane Smith wasn’t exactly built like a normal human.

“I need,” her voice was frail, and she sounded distinctly frustrated, “yellow.”
“Yellow?” Martha tilted her head to one side. “Banana?”
Smith shook her head, but her eyes lit up at the mention of the fruit. She pointed her eyes to the ceiling, irritation palpable.
“Lights,” Martha gasped, “the sun!”
Smith nodded, and winced.
The sun made sense. It fit with the strangeness of Jane’s medical history, and Martha had stopped being shocked after the third superhero demolished her flat.
She was a magnet for superpowered destruction, it seemed.

It was a bit of a challenge getting Smith outside, but nobody questioned Doctor Jones’ authority, so they made it to the gardens easily enough. Luckily, she was about 3 hours overdue for her lunch- now dinner- break, and Nurse Williams offered to tell the head of department for her. He was a good man.

Smith didn’t take long to heal, once they were in the small patient garden.

She was beautiful. Short golden blonde hair that framed her face like a Halo, bright eyes that seemed to stare right through Martha. Smith wore a hospital gown, but even that didn’t distract from her handsome figure. She was also, unmistakably, Superwoman.

“Doctor Martha Jones?” Even her voice was lovely.
“You’re Superwoman.” Martha wasn’t sure she could believe her eyes, “Superwoman. In my A&E?”
She got out of the bed, and took Martha’s hand, which slotted in perfectly, “Jane, I prefer.”
“Jane,” Martha smiled.
Jane then leant to her, “I’m sorry, this means nothing,” and kissed her.

She was a good kisser. A really good kisser.

All too soon, she broke the kiss.
“That was nothing?” Martha gasped.
“Well, it was a cover act,” Jane started to babble, “but really you do have lovely lips.”

Martha sighed, “How about a go again. Just to make sure?”
Jane opened her mouth, before closing it and kissing Martha once more.

She couldn’t quite believe it. She was kissing Superwoman. At work. In a garden. She didn’t want to ever stop.
