Post extermination day things get a little heated.

Work Text:

“What the fuck was that?”

“It was nothing Lute, I just didn’t see him-”

Lute glared at Vaggie as the two stormed down the hall towards their living quarters. If she thought she could just act as if that was an acceptable performance for extermination day Vaggie was sorely mistaken.

“Well I saw you, you hesitated-”

“I did not hesitate!”

Lute scoffed,“Then you were careless, that's not better Vaggie!”

“It doesn’t matter-”

“What kind of exorcist are you to think like that?”

“Just fuck off Lute!” Vaggie yelled, her voice betraying her as a hint of shame crept in.

Lute snarled, pushing Vaggie towards the wall,“Make me.”

Something indescribable flashed in Vaggie’s eyes as Lute crowded her. Perhaps it was shame, or fear, or rage-Lute couldn’t quite make it out but it burned.

There was a moment of pause, a silent threat resting on Lute’s authority and whether or not Vaggie would be bold enough to challenge it. When Vaggie leaned forward Lute had braced herself for impact, eyes closing, half expecting a headbutt or some other sort of blow, but instead being met with something far too gentle given the circumstances.

A small noise of surprise escaped her lips as Vaggie’s found them.

It was almost comical how quickly Lute gave in after that, her traitorous body seemingly forgetting that the two of them had been seconds away from throwing punches as Lute relaxed into the kiss.

The ease with which this came to her brought something dangerous to the forefront of Lute’s mind. Something she had tried so desperatly to push away, this awful temptation that plagued her whenever Vaggie got too close.

For a moment Lute thinks it’ll be okay, that she can hold it together long enough until the kiss is broken and Vaggie wouldn’t have to know how fucking badly she wanted her. But then Vaggie tilts her head, deepening the kiss with a pathetic noise that fully snaps whatever was left of Lute's resolve.

Fuck it.

With a growl Lute presses her body forward, effectively pinning Vaggie back against the wall and kissing her like a starving woman. Maybe she could chalk all of this up to adrenaline from extermination day-maybe if she believed it hard enough it would be true.

The intensity seemed to catch Vaggie off guard at first, a gasp spilling from her lips before Lute’s were on them again. Her arms wrapped around Lute’s shoulders, pulling her close as they slipped into a comfortable rhythm moving against one another.

Well maybe comfortable wasn’t the right word, comfortable implied ease and relaxation, and this was so filled with desire it was overwhelming. This made Lute’s chest ache with something terrible and wrong, and she wanted it so badly to never end. Desperate-that’s what this was-desperate and sinful and oh so fucking good.

Vaggie pulled back with a gasp and Lute began to wander, lips pressed against the other woman's throat to feel her pulse against them. It pounded beneath every kiss, seemingly goading Lute on to match its pace, tempting her to sink her teeth in and leave something behind as proof that any of this wasn’t a dream.

It was exhilarating. The way Vaggie’s breath hitched as she pulled Lute back to her, the way her hands tangled in Lute’s hair to keep them close. Lute felt lightheaded, caring far more about the way Vaggie’s lips felt against hers than any stupid need to breathe.

She could have died right then and there, she didn’t care. It would have been easier, after all, then she wouldn’t have to know what happened when they inevitably pulled apart.

The sound of a door opening down the hall felt like a bucket of ice water over the both of them. In an instant Lute stumbled back, the reality of what had just happened between them becoming suffocating.

In some small miracle the sound of footsteps seemed to grow quieter as whoever had shattered their moment made their way down a different hallway, none the wiser.

Lute stared at the floor beneath her feet as if her shame could scorch the polished stone. Perhaps more damning than the shame was the weakness it signified, the notion that she had faltered in her discipline, that she was no better than Vaggie had been for her carelessness today.

How pathetic that she’d come here to reprimand Vaggie’s moment of weakness only to fall victim to one of her own? As if to add insult to injury, the weight of Vaggie’s gaze confirmed that the exorcist truly didn’t grasp the gravity of what she’d just done.

It didn’t matter.

Taking a breath Lute straightened up, her tone sharp as a blade when she finally met Vaggie’s eyes.

“Remember which side you're on, soldier. I won’t remind you again.”
