Chapter Text
Dreams are such a funny thing, are they not? A vivid hallucination while your body is at its most vulnerable, just to fill the void. Fascinating.
Do you dream of calm nights doing laundry and taxes with a lover you cannot name?
Or of Kingdoms and Cathedrals, looming over you with an all-encompassing air.
Do you dream of a lost city? Abandoned to overgrowth, frozen in time, merely vacated for your arrival?
Or do you dream of a Knight? As if straight out of a fairytale, saving you from nightmares stained with a color that only exists in your eyelids?
Or do you save him? Drag him from a river, bloody and bruised like he’s a fallen angel from heaven?
It’s so interesting, Isn’t it?
Wake up, Avery Martinez. Before you get lost in them.
Plush grass shifts and sways around him, soft and comforting. The Sun’s rays shine down and surround the corpse, warm and thick and drowning out what can think. A corpse hiding something that cannot die, a decaying Ouroboros doomed to consume itself.
Death would’ve been a mercy from the everlasting urge to understand.
Because the sky is pure, unfiltered baby blue.
Derek Hutchins should’ve died at midnight, his last sight a green-hisgreenHISVESSELhisaveryMyAvery-firework, conscience replaying the best seven minutes of his dreadful life after it faded into obscurity.
So why was he lying on grass, blanketed by sun, greeted by a clear, afternoon sky? Untormented? Untouched?
Because without a doubt,
Derek Hutchins is supposed to be dead.
