Chapter Text
As the first rays of sun peek over the horizon, Lysander’s sleeping eyes soak in the nectar that Puck has mistakenly applied. Puck flits through the trees back to Oberon’s court, singing a cheerful song. Suddenly, he hears stomping footfalls coming closer.
“Now what do we have here? Who is this new stranger that I can torment?” muses Puck, leaping up into a tree to listen.
“My dear Hermia,” calls the voice. “Where has Lysander taken you?”
From behind Puck there is a loud snapping of branches as Lysander, a bit unsteady on his feet, runs into the clearing.
“Who goes there? Who dares call my name!”
And then he looks up. Just in time for Demetrius to step into the circle of trees.
“Two Athenian men!” cries a gleeful Puck. “What a turn of events.”
The two men lock eyes. The love flower’s nectar doesn't waste a second.
“Oh, Demetrius,” Lysander gushes, practically swooning at the sight of him. “Why have I been wasting time with Hermia when I could have been chasing you?”
Demetrius is too shocked to say a word. He turns around, eyes landing on Puck, hoping he has a solution, but Puck is too busy grinning and kicking his feet. Lysander takes advantage of Demetrius’s confusion and leaps toward him. Demetrius screams as Lysander wraps his long arms around him and runs away into the forest, carrying Demetrius along. As the two travel further, Demetrius’s screams slowly grow silent, and Puck is certain he can hear Lysander passionately cry:
“Marry me, Demetrius! Do not run from our fiery love!”
Puck begins laughing nervously.
“Master will not be happy when he finds out what I've done–not happy at all.”
