Work Text:

Two best friends are out gazing at the night sky; both clad in thick, warm fabric, for it is the winter seasons. Emerald eyes stare at the shiny stars, and ruby red ones stare at the star next to him.

"Kacchan," Izuku breathes out, frosty air coming out of his lips.

"Yeah?"

"Do you think, we'll be friends forever?" The greenette slightly turns his head to the person beside him—eyes glimmering with the hope of possibly always being with the person he admires the most, Kacchan; his bestest friend in the whole entire world—universe, even.

"..." Katsuki begins to respond, but his mind cuts his mouth short. He tries to formulate the words to confirm, but something in his chest—residing deep in his heart, refuses to comply. He manages to say yes anyway.

"Of course, you damn nerd. We'll be the bestest friends for forever!"

Izuku fully faces Katsuki the moment he agrees to his question. He thought the latter wouldn't agree, hence the surprised expression Izuku has.

"Really?!"

"Yes, Izuku." As much as it bothers him, he wouldn't dare to upset the greenette.

"Kacchan.."

With eyes glistening, cheeks flushed, and snot quickly trailing down his nose, Izuku still looks so effortlessly beautiful. The milky blue splays around his face—which makes him even more captivating.

Katsuki flinches lightly, taking in the way of how Izuku is with the peaceful atmosphere. The moment is peaceful, unguarded, and free;

like they can just talk and talk and talk until the early morning. But to be honest, it's always been like this whenever it's just him and Izuku. He talks to fill up the silence that lingers between them in the air, and Katsuki lets him.

He loves how the wind catches in the shorter's green hair, how he gestures exuberantly whenever the topic segues into one that he is particularly interested in, how he bores into Katsuki's eyes with a deep intense look but it's still somehow tender and careful; like the blond might shatter with his gaze.

He loves every part of it, and he wouldn't have traded those private moments for anything else. Hearing Izuku declare that their bond only classifies strictly as friendship disheartens him; because he was really hoping for more than that.

And he knows that it's selfish.

But honestly, when is Katsuki's wishes never selfish when it came to Izuku?

He wishes that he could go home to his apartment to see Izuku waiting for him by the couch, rewatching all the All Might movies, and comes up to Katsuki to greet him by the entrance with a kiss.

He wishes that he'd be able to wake up to Izuku by his side on their bed, and be able to hug him, kiss him, cook for him, and every damn thing that he could possibly do in a relationship.

But he'll never come to the conclusion that Katsuki has arrived at. He'll never understand how badly Katsuki wants to be held warmly at Izuku's always welcoming arms.

So, no matter how much he wants it, he can never really truly have the love story he desires unless the freckled man feels the same. And it's super fucking pathetic of him. If only he had the guts to tell Izuku.

"Hey, Kacchan?" Izuku faces him once more, emitting subtle hesitance in his voice.

Katsuki grunts in response, encouraging the greenette to continue.

"Do you think me and Uraraka would look good together?"

...

'..What?'

"Excuse me?" Katsuki blinks at that question, thinking maybe he heard wrong. Using his quirk for hero work is unfortunately having side effects for his hearing.

Izuku chuckles nervously, embarrassed of repeating himself. "I—uh, I said, do you think me and Uraraka-san would look good together?" He smiles awkwardly while scratching his cheek with the scar on it.

Oh. So he did hear him correctly. Katsuki'd have preferred if he misheard Izuku. At this point, he might just have to spell it out for him. Tell him who's been at the other side, waiting for him to take his hand.

"Well, if I were you, I'd go for someone who understands you better than anyone. Someone who will treat you better than everyone else. Someone who is closer to you than the rest of our friends. Someone like me."

"K-kacchan?!" The greenette sits up straighter, he tries to get Katsuki to look at him, but he dodges Izuku's persistent gaze. "Kacchan, what are you saying?!" He's now full on grabbing Katsuki's arms and shaking him for an answer.

'Here goes nothing...'

With his head turned away from Izuku and his eyes shut tight, he says louder than he intended to, "I'm saying I like you, you dumbass!"

Hands that were once shaking him tenaciously in a back-and-forth motion immediately stopped. For what was once a warm and domestic silence between them, transformed into an awkward quietude of a moment. Yup, goodbye. He's definitely ruined a friendship of a lifetime.

'Why did I even do this again? I guess I thought I might've had a chance.'

Izuku doesn't know what to think. Kacchan had felt the same all this time?

Just when he had attempted to move on from him, he has to go and actually confess. He's happy he did though, because even if he felt something towards Uraraka—it never had that same spark that pulsed in his veins every time he hung out with Kacchan. He's glad that he said something to him, way before it would be too late.

The lack of noise from the shorter rendered Katsuki worried; he wishes that Izuku could just forget about this predicament and go back to babbling about something that excites him.

Again, why did he do this?

Right when he was about to start spouting curses in his mind, Izuku hugs him, tightly. The taller opens one of his eyes and peeks at him, green tufts of hair obscuring his vision of the scenery. Izuku raises his head to stare at Katsuki, while the other reddens at the proximity of their faces.

"Kacchan, why didn't you tell me sooner? I love you too!" He says, now smiling even brighter than at the beginning of their hang out.

"Are you sure? You were just asking for my opinion of you and Round Face together just awhile ago." Katsuki raises an eyebrow, still flushed at the closeness and also because of the confession Izuku has proudly declared.

"I was trying to move on from you because I thought you didn't like me back, so I figured that I could try to establish something that goes beyond friendship with Uraraka-san." The shorter provides, sparing no details.

Katsuki hugs him back with the same enthusiasm as he responds gruffly, "Well you don't need to think about dating her anymore because you're stuck with me now, you got that?"

"Kacchan, you should know I'm not going anywhere, and that I'm not letting go of you either."

"Good! Then it's settled. We're staying with each other from now on."

Izuku elicits a chuckle as he pulls back from Katsuki in order to kiss him. The latter blinks but quickly recovers as he reciprocates the intimate movement.

The kiss was clumsy, intense, and passionate—but at the same time it was gentle, and soft. Katsuki deepens it by holding the back of Izuku's head and slotting their mouths closer.

The freckled man places his scarred hands on Katsuki's waist to pull him against his own body. It goes on like this for a while, but Izuku then backs out, gasping for air; Katsuki chases after his lips, prompting the greenette to put a hand on his chest to stop him.

Katsuki pouts in protest, but he gives a chance to let Izuku breathe. He examines the latter's appearance; his hair is slightly tousled, eyes dilated, lips swollen, and face a deep red that makes his freckles disappear a little. He feels so giddy for being the one to make Izuku look like this and not someone else.

"Izuku,"

"Yes, Kacchan?" Izuku tilts his head curiously.

"Nothing," Katsuki says, he leans back in to embrace Izuku, face nuzzling in the curve of his neck. "I love you."

Izuku smiles softly as he envelops him with his strong arms. "I love you too, My Kacchan."
