But in the case you know none,]
Here, you may call me GEMYNI.]
Now, we can start with a story you may find familiar.]
Once upon a time, a child fell into the Underground, the 8th to fall among the stories of 7 others.
Once upon a time, the child met a talking flower.
Once upon a time, the child refused to fight, wanting nothing but to go home.
Once upon a time, the child was threatened by a tall, cool skeleton.
Once upon a time, the child made a friend or two.
Once upon a time, the child only found more friends.
Once upon a time, the child survived against all odds.
Once upon a time, the child made it to the end…
Once upon a time… The child didn't want to leave anymore…
Once upon a time, the child made up their mind.
Once upon a time…
…Frisk was finally home…
Frisk walked through the hall in the kings basement, not quite paying attention while lost in thought. They thought about all they had gone through, about their friends, that this… was the end of their adventure…
Well, sort of, they would still have to fight the king, but they didn't want to fight… they didn't want to kill anyone to leave, and they didn't want to leave all of their friends behind… and after the story those monsters that they ran into down here were telling…
They stepped through into the final corridor, still lost in thought as they sauntered down the corridor, their mind crowded with thoughts of their own. Soon, a familiar voice echoed off the walls of the corridor “Heya Kid.” Sans spoke, snapping Frisk from their own thoughts to an abrupt stop, looking up to see a short skeleton in a blue jacket.
“So you finally made it. The end of your journey is at hand. Together... You will determine the future of this world.” Sans continued, starting a monologue that Frisk could already tell was going to be long.
A smile formed on their face as they thought back to the two times they actually hung out with Sans, they suspected something was up with him. This interaction wasn’t quite an answer, but it was a confirmation that they were right, Sans definitely knew more about everything they were dealing with than he let on, maybe even more than them…
“That's then. Now. You will be judged.”
The human hears their friend continue, everything sparking thought after thought in their mind until they couldn't hear the words he spoke, only the thoughts running through their head. Why did they even want to leave this place anyway? What made them want to go back to where they had nothing, no one? Back when they were alone… back where the best thing they had to do was climb a dangerous mountain? It wasn’t like anyone cared when they left anyway, they didn't belong there but here… they were happy now…
Their thoughts consumed them, not even noticing Sans continue, or stop questioningly, his words in the background, until-
“Kid? You alright?” Their friend asked, a hand on their shoulder as he shook them gently, just enough to focus them back to reality, they nodded quickly as soon as they were able to process the question.
“Ya’ sure? You seem pretty distracted. What's on your mind?” Sans asked, lifting his hand from Frisk's shoulder as he tilted his head curiously.
“Just thinking of everything that’s happened, I can’t believe it’s almost over…” Frisk mumbled with a smile on their face, recalling everything they had done up til now
“I Get’cha, none of us can believe it either.” The skeleton shrugged with the usual grin on his face.
Frisk only chuckled in response, their smile never wavering as every moment in this past week or so flashed through their mind, though it felt much longer, maybe because of every save and load or reset they had to do when they died. The thought of dying wasn't very pleasant, but the thought of their journey and friends were enough to dull the shivers.
But soon, they felt a skeletal hand on their head, ruffling their hair slightly.
“But anyway, your judgment is; You're a good kid. You never gained LOVE, but you gained love… does that make sense?”
Frisk nodded, their smile full of mirth as their friend continued to mess with their hair in a teasing way.
“Good. ‘cause after so long, somehow, you, out of anyone, were the one to make me care again.” Sans chuckled, his voice mirroring admiration for the human in front of him
“You’ve given all of us hope again… But now, you're about to face the greatest challenge of your entire journey. your actions here... will determine the fate of the entire world. if you refuse to fight... Asgore will take your soul and destroy humanity. but if you kill Asgore and go home... monsters will remain trapped underground. What will you do? Well, if I were you, I would have thrown in the towel by now. but you didn't get this far by giving up, did you? That's right. You have something called "determination." so as long as you do what's in your heart... I believe you can do the right thing. alright. We're all counting on you, kid. Good luck.”
With the last words, the skeleton disappeared, the solemn loneliness of the room urging the human forward, to continue to the end…
“...Uh, well that was something…” A familiar, but unexpected voice echoed in Frisks head, causing them to jump as they looked beside them to see their ghost friend! Well… Frisk doesn't know their name, but they had been here since they fell, and it wasn't like Frisk never asked! They just refused to tell.
“Y-you! You’re back!” Frisk exclaimed, a little surprised to see them again.
“Of course I am. I never left. You didn’t actually think I could or would just leave you, did you?” The ghost asked, leaving Frisk only to chuckle nervously in response, a deadpan forming on the face of the ghost next to them.
“Of course you did.” The human ghost responded sarcastically, rolling their eyes as they headed forward, knowing Frisk would catch up to them.
“Hey! What’s that supposed to mean!?” Frisk exclaimed as the ran to catch up to their friend, who simply shrugged in response
Frisk Pouted at the lack of a proper response, But the silence left them to ponder. Would this be another thing they would have to miss? Since their ghost friend only appeared after they fell, would they disappear when they got back to the surface..?
Soon they turned through a doorway at the end of the corridor, quietly walking down a grey hall until they turned again, only to see the door that would lead them to the end…
They've been warned about the king since they fell, how they would have to fight him to leave, and then Alphys warned them that they would have to kill him to even cross the barrier… they didn't know if they would have the will to do it…
“Uh… Are you going to go or not?” The mildly inpatient voice next to them spoke, snapping them out of their thoughtful daze. That really was becoming a pattern, wasn't it?
Frisk processed the question, wanting to just say yes, but… somehow, they didn’t have an answer anymore… for once, they weren’t sure if they really wanted to leave… They looked up ahead to the grey leaves by the doorway that would lead to the end, but they weren’t sure if they wanted this to end anymore…
“I…” Frisk sighed heavily “I don’t know…” They mumbled, feeling an ache in their chest at the idea of leaving their friends
“You… Don’t know? How do you not know? Not long ago you wanted to get home so badly that you wouldn't even rest!” The ghost next to them reasoned, incredibly confused by their words
Frisk hummed, ready to respond “Well, I've been thinking-”
“That's a first.” The human ghost interrupted with a smirk on their face as if they had been waiting their whole afterlife to make that one joke.
The small living human shot them a glare, even with their squinted eyes
“Fine, fine, sorry. Continue” The ghost prompted for their companion to continue.
“Hmph. Well, I’ve been SPECULATING, and I’m not really sure if the surface is home anymore…” Frisk continued, emphasizing the change in word, causing their ghost friend to giggle just a bit before collecting themself
“Why?” The ghost asked bluntly
Frisk shifted uncomfortably,
“I had my reasons for climbing the mountain in the first place, you know? I entered the cave out of curiosity, I climbed the mountain because I wanted to disappear… It's not like anyone’s waiting for me on the surface…” Frisk explained, the melancholic feeling reflecting in their voice
“Oh.” The ghost child responded, feeling a bit odd for asking, but sort of just wanting to help… somehow.
“...Well, you don’t have to go back, you know?” They suggested with a small shrug, this response making Frisk flinch slightly.
“I-!” The living human started before cutting off whatever half-baked excuse they had been telling themselves this whole time to keep them going- maybe it was because staying just felt like giving up…
“I… I don’t, do I?” Frisk replied quietly with a soft shake of their head.
“What? Did you not consider that a possibility? I stayed here when I fell! Why wouldn't you be able to?” The nameless ghost reminded, clearly phrasing kinder words sharply on purpose.
“It… It isn't like I never considered it… I guess staying just felt like giving up-”
“It’s not giving up if it makes you happy. Joy is the ultimate goal right?” The Ghost interrupted with a shrug before leaning back.
“Eh, I’m not encouraging that though- I stayed and look where I am! Stuck following idiot children around for eternity. So lets just go and beat the crap out of the king, maybe If you escape It’ll free me too- HEY!” The ghost was cut off and yelped as the human child suddenly brushed past them and disappeared, bolting back the way they came.
“WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU'RE DOING!? YOU CANT BREAK THE SCRIPT!” The ghost screamed in a more distorted voice as they tried to warp and follow Frisk but found themselves unable to follow before letting out an even more distorted scream of anger.
Frisk heard the scream behind them as they ran, DETERMINED to find one of their friends because they were sure now- they didn't want to leave, they never did, so they wouldn't.
Somehow, the first monster they saw was Sans, resting at one of his booths but he perked up the moment he spotted them
“Kid?” The skeleton called out with a clear confusion in his voice, but the human didn't bother responding. The small skeleton grunted as the human child lunged at him and pulled him into a tight hug
The hug lasted for longer than it felt normal until the soft beating in the human child's chest seemed awkward to feel- obviously, physical affection was something the skeleton wasn't used to and didn't know how to return, but he didn't need to as Frisk clung to him and grasped his jacket tight enough that any attempt to pull them away would end in failure. Sans looked around like he wanted something to save him from the crushing hug but nothing happened until the human reluctantly pulled away enough to show their now tear-stained face.
“Oh- Geez Kid, what happened? Why are you back and- crying?” Sans asked, very clearly uncomfortable and unsure what to do
“Shouldn’t you be fighting the king right now-?”
“I don't want to leave anymore.” Frisk stated firmly, their voice still shaking from the tears regardless of how strong they tried to sound
“Oh.” Sans paused “Is that- uh- possible?” The skeleton asked hesitantly, like he wasn't sure if he was allowed to ask the question
“Nothing is stopping me.” The small human shrugged, clearly unsure themselves but willing to try.
What a sweet story]
Isn't it?]
Unfortunately, it is not fully over]
I will however rush all that fluff inbetween]
You are not here for that]
For a long while, the 8th human lived in the underground and all the monsters were so happy to have them, taking them in, giving them free stuff, and the human somehow brought them all hope and joy, feelings they never thought the underground would let them have.
Frisk told stories of the surface, stories of humans in days long past, stories of royalty and stories of astronauts, and over time, they told enough stories that they had their own ‘human’ section in the library. Everything was wonderful.
At first, they had stayed with Sans and Papyrus, bringing so much energy to snowdin, and somehow they even got the queen out of the ruins! Nobody really told the king, but he found out anyway and that was when he made his first public appearance in so long- only to be publicly shunned and lock himself in his garden for a week, but the human eventually got him out too.
Soon, happy months became a year and Alphys had confessed her love to Undyne, bringing the two together happily and even Mettaton got his more human-like form fixed and completed bringing him even more praise, especially with how often the human ended up featured on his show. Joy and compassion spread through the underground and for a while, they barely thought about the surface.
Eventually, a year became two and things got even better, Muffet had made enough money for her own bake-shop in hotland called Little Spider, of course the human invested heavily in the baked goods no matter how expensive they were! Even Flowey was happier with the human here- though he rarely showed and usually just sulked, he was able to communicate with the ghost kid thanks to Frisk, apparently their name was Chara and they had some sort of connection to Flowey, they never explained it but Frisk didn't mind it.
Life was happy, the whole underground was happy… maybe too happy… and everyone knows that good things never stay, everything always changes… and just as such, something terrible had to happen.
Just before two years turned into three, Frisk fell ill, deathly ill for seemingly no reason, and there was to logic to how fast it deteriorated their being, like their soul itself was chipping away slowly and painfully and before anyone knew it… they were gone.
For weeks the underground went silent, tears fell, colors dulled, the queen disappeared once again and the doors to the ruins shut tight once again. Grillbys and Little Spider rarely had guests or customers, Mettatons show stopped airing and not a single monster uttered a word for two weeks straight- and only then was the heavy silence addressed, but it never even fully disappeared.
Only after two weeks did Mettaton finally air a “Greive Together” show that soon turned into simply sharing stories each had of the human in a solemn quiet like a group therapy. The king came out with a speech about the dear friend they had all lost and how nobody would forget what the human had done for them. Slowly, the silence broke, but the grief never did, some never even spoke again and some hated those that did, but most knew the human would want them all to speak and share and heal without them.
Even after weeks that turned to months of healing, the human remained a scar of vulnerability on all of them, with that coming a vow to never attack a human without good reason, never again would they give such a negative impression. Even so, the queen was still gone and many remained quiet, nobody would forget the friend they had shared- and in the ruins with the queen remained most of the monsters that refused to speak a word anymore as they grieved, many who sat at the grave that had been dug for the human day and night, never making a sound.
However, time is cruel and time doesn't stop for anyone, even those who grieve for two years without end as far too long later, another human just so happened to fall into the ruins…
And so]
Our story begins]
