Work Text:

“It’s been 40 days and I still miss you.” Recently Brendon broke up with the boy he thought he’d spend the rest of his life with, the boy he thought he could finally feel comfortable with. Brendon feels dreadful every day since, despite him being the one who broke up with him, it was for the better. His ex boyfriend, Dallon was going through really bad depression and Brendon knew he had to let go so Dallon could get the help he needed. It’s not like Brendon didn’t try to help, it’s just that Dallon wouldn’t reach out or accept the help that he tried to give, and this wasn’t the relationship Brendon wanted.

Dallon had started going through this rough despair and sadness for a while. It started to affect their relationship in obvious ways, he had stopped reaching out as often, stopped being as open and cheerful as he would always display himself and caused him to be a really paranoid and anxious person. Dallon had been fired from his job because he’d always had to excuse himself for oversleeping, the cops had been called on him by his family because of how concerned they were for him, he wasn’t answering nobody’s calls, texts or giving a sign of life. He wasn't troubling others, he just had these really bad episodes and caused himself to isolate from the whole world.

Brendon’s started coping with writing in his journal, and as of recently he’s almost filled the whole book up with painfully grieving words about how much he misses and still thinks about the boy. “40 days and I’m blown away, I’m so high that I’ve lost my mind. I wish I saw something new, a positive look out of your eyes, I’ve always loved the way that you smile. “ Brendon sighs and closes his journal. Of course he still feels bad about leaving him, but Dallon just kept on falling and couldn’t be saved anymore. He didn’t want to think about the downsides anymore, he got up and went out for a walk. It was a hot summer night in Vegas, of course it was no surprise for him, he had his messy hair from writing on his bed all day, plain black shorts and a white T-shirt.

Brendon walked to a nearby liquor store that was open 24/7. He walked in and grabbed a pack of cigarettes and an alcoholic beverage. He was good friends with the clerk so he didn’t care to ask for ID, despite him clearly looking like the teenager he is. He walked back home while smoking a cigar. He tries not to overthink but it just got the better of him this time, the whole walk home he thought about contacting Dallon again, breaking no contact, trying to bring back this strong connection they once had. The moment he got home he popped open his drink and tried to bring himself to write a well written text.

“Hey, I know it’s been a while. I’ve been gathering my thoughts and I was thinking if you wanted to go back to talking. I understand if you’re still not feeling well, I’m offering to help if that’s the case, sorry I’m texting you at this time I just can’t get my mind off of this.” He closes his eyes and exhales as he sends the text.

Brendon still hasn’t gotten a response and knew something was off, of course he knew Dallon might’ve still been out of it but he never seemed to not respond this late. He decided to call or text as much as his friends and ask if he was going fine.

Every one of his friends said that he hasn’t been online of a week or two, hasn’t been seen outside or been to school for a while. After the break up Dallon had moved schools so he didn’t have a chance to check up on him during then. Brendon took that as a bad sign and decided to bike ride his way to his house. He lived around a good distance away from him, estimating around 15 minutes on bike, fewer on car. But he didn’t have that type of luxury, he just didn’t know how to drive.

On his way there he drove towards this bridge that let pedestrians cross over water, he noted a tall figure on the edge. He became extremely alert and concern for whoever that was, pedaling faster to at least try to help them down. As soon as he got closer he noticed how familiar it looked.

“No…it couldn’t be” he thought to himself.

As soon as he got close enough he saw his face, his back, his hair, everything about him looked like the boy. It was Dallon. He rushed even closer and shouted towards him.

“Dallon! Is it you! Please don’t, there’s so much to live for, I’m here for you, we’re here for you, so many people love you!!!” He talked firmly and tried to grab onto the back of his sweater.

Dallon looked back and stared at his eyes for a while, he looked horrible tired, overwhelmed and tears in his eyes. He looked like a mess. A mess only Brendon could fix. Brendon tried to hold Dallon with every inch of strength he had.

The boy had apologized to Brendon before punching him and jumping off

“I’m sorry”

Then splash.

Dallon didn’t know how to swim and Brendon knew.

Brendon yelled out to Dallon and tried to find a way to rush safely down. By the time he ended down there it was no good. The currents didn’t take him far but it was well enough for him not to be able to escape and retain his breath back. Brendon ran and catches up to his lifeless body screaming and yelling for help, crying his eyes out.
