Chapter Text
Isagi Yoichi and Itoshi Rin hate eachother. No, they despise one another.
Isagi Yoichi, 2nd best at Blue Lock University, cannot seem to surpass the great Rin Itoshi. No matter how hard he tried, how hard he pushed, all his efforts seemed to come crashing down by coming a few marks behind Rin. It pissed him off. How can one be so effortlessly good at something. How could someone as good looking as Rin be so good at almost everything, but have the attitude of a baby who complains for food that never arrived on time. Despite the fact that Rin acted with such childlike behaviour, Isagi still had to face the facts. Rin was just better. In every way, shape and form....
But it doesn't have to be like that. If he just tries harder, and pushes himself, those extra few marks that seem to fly away anytime he sits and exam, or has a presentation, should come flying back in no time. However, as the saying goes, it's easier said that done, and if he wants to push himself and come out victorious, he's gonna have to try a lot harder.
Next, Itoshi Rin: Labelled No.1 at Blue Lock University. His effortless talent, carries him through the school work with ease. The work comes to him as easily as it is to take candy from a child. Rin takes pride in being placed No.1 and doesn't plan to let that change for a while..... however, he can't help but be drawn to the pesky insect, who tries so hard (Yet can't succeed) in surpassing him.
At first, Rin really believed he could ignore him, pretend he wasn't there, pretend he was a figment of his imagination. But much like a fly, an annoying loud buzzing fly, Isagi is persistent. He makes himself be known, he shows how fast he's climbing up, each day inching closer and closer to Rin. So much to the point that Rin finally had to acknowledge him.... which was his biggest mistake.
Isagi was a headache, a lukewarm dull ache that he couldn't get rid of. Constant teasing, banter and mockery; Rin couldn't stand him. He was always there, Rin could not catch a break at all.
So here we are, in class. English literature class to be exact. The professor is blabbing his mouth at the front of the room. Rin is staring out the window, mind drifting carelessly away. He already knew everything being taught, what a waste of time. Over on the other side of the room sat Isagi, half locked in, half yapping with his freind sat beside him. Meguru Bachira: some call him annoying, others call him a ray of sunshine. Rin calls him a loud, half-baked npc, who doesn't take education seriously, and in contrast to this, Isagi calls him his best friend, someone who like to live life a little, someone whose extremely expressive and someone who enjoys to spread good vibes.
So there they were, blabbering away in class, Isagi every so often noting down a key bit of information the professor splutters out. So loud, so unaware. It pissed Rin off.
Rin's eye twitches slightly, his chin rested in his palm, while his arm is propped up on the table by his elbow. His head throbs and he turns away from the window and looks over to Isagi's direction. He scoffs and rolls his eyes, not very impressed with what he's seeing. Why isn't the professor saying anything about this? How infuriating.
Sooner or later, the bell finally goes off. A loud ringing blasts through Rin's ear. He stands up abruptly as and starts to pack his things away. Student spill out into the hallway, heading back to dorms to chill for the rest of the day. Rin hoists his bag onto his shoulder and head over to where Isagi and Bachira are still slowly packing up. Step by step, he makes his way over. He looks behind Isagi with a presence that's enough to cause Bachira to stop dead in his tracks, the yapping coming to a halt. Rin reaches his hand out a places a firm grip onto the back of Isagi's collar, dragging him towards him as he spoke in a low voice, laced with venom and displeasement.
"You. Do you lack self awareness, or do you come to class to act like an animal.", Rin spat out, his face stained with displeasure.
Isagi swiftly turned around, a small smirk playing at his lips. "Well hello to you to No.1", He replied in amusement, not really bothered by Rin's behavior... or was he just used to it?
Bachira, sensing the tension and the brewing argument, decided it was better to leave this one out. He swiftly slipped out the door, Rin only glancing in his direction as he did so.
"This is not a zoo. You come here to learn. Not make up noise like a monkey who finally got a hold of a banana.", Rin sputteted out, his eyebrows beginning to furrow.
"Take a chill pill dude, it's not that deep. I took notes, didn't I?", Isagi sighed out, all too familiar with Rin's antics by now.
"That's besides the point, lukewarm. Some of us are actually here to learn. I don't know about you, but I don't plan on being a failure later on in life.", Rin said, looking Isagi up and down with almost a look of disgust seeping from his eyes.
"Mhm yeah so staring out a window is learning now?", Isagi huffed "Last time I checked, we actually had to focus on the teacher to learn stuff."
"When you already know what's being talked about like its the back of your hand, you don't need to pay as much attention.", Rin said "I can afford to drift off into lessons, unlike you."
"Oh please, I'm doing just fine. I get good grades", Isagi argued back. It's not like he was stupid, he still payed some attention in class.
"You're still half-baked if you can't even surpass me.", Rin said, his grip tightening around Isagi's collar before letting go. "You're lukewarm efforts are pitiful"
Isagi forced a smile, one that didn't quite reach his eyes, his eyebrows furrowed. "Wow, thanks for the reminder", he said as his jaw clenched. "Just remember you said that. It's gonna feel so good when I finally surpass you. You'll be the pitiful one trying to catch up to me", he muttered.
Rin scoffed. "Keep dreaming." He said as he began to walk towards the door, his bag slung over his shoulder as he ran a hand through his hair. "As if that could ever happen. You will always be in my shadow. Just accept it", and without waiting to hear what Isagi had to say, he walked out, the door clicking behind him, leaving Isagi alone in the classroom.
Isagi, with a feeling of extreme frustration settling in the pit of his stomach, packed up the last remaining things on his desk, and put on his bag.
"I will pass you, just you wait, and when I do, you'll be the one on your knees" He muttered to himself as he exited the classroom, the door clicking behind him, leaving the now empty classroom in suffocating silence.
