Work Text:
"So, Anyone on your mind for nominations?" Flash broke through the silence, where Batman had allowed the silence to linger.
"Yes, nominations."
"I observed a vigilante a few weeks back and did some research. Nightwing-"
"from Blüdhaven!" Flash gasps, snapping his fingers and pointing. "That's Kid Flash's friend. Leader of the Titans? I've met him like twice and he's pretty cool. The kid talks about him all the time and says he’s a good one. I was thinking of him too."
Superman was happy that someone else at least had personal interactions with the mystery hero. "I actually just saw him fighting someone and fell down a rabbit hole."
"Cool!"
Diana cut in, "Do you have any videos or interactions with him that would suggest he not be a good fit?"
"Nah, he's pretty solid and chill. Great at hacking, great at fighting, great at planning, I'm surprised the Bat hasn't swooped him up yet."
"From Blüdhaven." Batman tacked on.
Flash lit up. "Yea! That’s what I said, you know him?"
The man inclined his head ever so slightly at that, signaling for them to continue. Superman found that to be a good thing, if Batman knew who Nightwing was, he probably wasn't as underground as he once thought.
The other leaguers had nominated a few others, showing CCTV Footage and sharing personal anecdotes. They were currently looking at 4 different vigilantes, all from different cities.
"He's currently the leader of a group called the Titans with only three years of experience! They used to be the Teen Titans but they've outgrown that name quickly." Flash continued, pressing a few buttons to pull up CCTV footage they got of a fight he was in.
They watched as Nightwing did what he seemed to do best, working together with his group and settling the fight in less than 10 minutes. Flash shared that he had great people skills, was already well respected by the people he was protecting as well as a strong hold on his secret identity.
"Nightwing seems like an excellent addition." Wonder Woman spoke up halfway. "Although he may be the newest on the scene, he seems the most experienced."
Many of the other leaguers also added comments here and there, asking questions about him to Flash since he stated that Kid Flash was his friend and that he met him. Batman, who had been quiet the whole time watching the footage (like he always is), turned his chair back to face the table.
“What do you think, Batman?” Clark asked, realizing the man hadn’t said anything yet.
"He’s quite new."
“Duh, but he seems like he’s been doing this forever? Look at him?” Green Arrow pointed at the screen.
"I believe he would be a good fit, Batman." Superman piped in.
The dark knight shifted in his seat, looking down on the smaller screen on the table in front of him where the footage of the vigilante was replaying. He started to type on his screen.
"Do you have any legitimate issues you would like to bring up?" Diana pushed, raising an eyebrow. It was obvious that something was bothering the man, especially since most of them found it hypocritical.
Batman looked back up, shaking his head ever so slightly.
"All who vote to include Nightwing in the JL, raise your hands."
Wonder Woman, Superman and Green Arrow were told to bring the good news to the new member, which was interesting since they always did it with Batman instead. The last time Green Arrow helped fill in was…
Clark can't remember.
"Shit-" The…kid cuts himself off, straightening up from his bend. "To what do I owe the pleasure of this meeting to?" Nightwing exclaimed, tilting his head to the side. "Unless y'all are clones here to kidnap me or…"
"We're not clones." Green Arrow laughed. "But good for being alert. We're here on official business."
The kid frowned. "Official Business?"
"We're here to extend an offer for you to join the Justice league. With a 3 month probation." Nightwing paused. He tilted his head slightly like he was waiting for something else to happen.
Superman could almost hear him blinking behind the mask. Now that he was up close to the kid, he could tell that he was a pretty young man, strong jaw and shoulders, tall and had great posture. He had wide shoulders and was pretty lean. His mask did not seem to have any other task than hiding his identity, and had the typical white out lenses that were getting pretty popular with the heroes these days.
"Me?" He laid a hand on his chest and Superman glanced down to get a better look at the material. It was slick, pretty tough and looked to be made of Kevlar. Which gave Clark a funny visual of Batman and him going to the same "Vigilante suit shop".
"Yes, we'd love you on the team and think you would make a great addition."
The kid laughed, shaking his head. "Y'all agreed to this? Everyone?"
Green Arrow waved his hand around. "Majority." Clark found the question interesting. Most new recruits were too excited at the idea of being part of the JL they wouldn’t ask about who voted for them. But they refrained from revealing who voted against them anyway as a precaution.
He snorted. "That's comforting. Yeah, I would be honored. I've always wanted to join, thought it'd never happen."
"That's great! Glad to have you on the team." Diana smiled, raising a hand for him to shake.
The zeta tube whirled loudly, a bright light flashing. "Nightwing B-01"
"Oh. When did you guys do that?" Green Lantern asked, looking around the room but speaking to no one in particular. Superman wasn't sure either, but he's sure someone helped to speed the process up.
"B01? What is B for again?"
"Man, I never took the time to learn."
"I never questioned it to be honest."
"Hello Everyone!" Nightwing smiled, hands on his hips as he barely made the effort to move away from the tubes. He seemed excited but Clark noticed he didn't look around the room in amazement like everyone else had. He'd remember Flash zooming through to look out all the windows.
"Batman 0-2"
Superman couldn't help but grimace as Batman materialized behind the teen, almost walking into him.
"Oh. Sorry." The kid laughed. The other leagues were calling out to him in greeting, pausing when Batman appeared.
"Walk away from the Zeta-tube when you enter." He grunted out.
The kid pursed his lips momentarily, a small frown on his face. Flash glanced at Clark observing the interaction, slightly surprised the Bat didn't have anything else to say. It probably sucked that his first interaction with the infamous dark knight was already off to a bad start.
He recovered quickly. "Thanks for voting me in, guys! Excited to be here."
"No problem kid, we're glad you're on the team now." Barry smiled, excited. The kid laughed, "I don't think all of us are." He said, looking at the back of Batman's head. Supe could hear the slight inhale Flash took at that before he glanced around, as if trying to see if anyone saw that too. Green Arrow cringed a little at that, drawing his shoulders up.
The kid wasn't trying to lower his voice, so Batman definitely heard him.
However, the man just glanced towards him before continuing with his work, completely ignoring this perfect opportunity that he would have normally used to teach someone a lesson. Clark would have understood why if Batman chose that moment, and in fact was feeling a bit confused as to why he didn’t.
"Does it seem like Nightwing knows Batman didn't want him to join?" Green Arrow whispers, using his hood to block his lips.
Diana glanced their way. "I'm sure someone didn't do that. Batman barely objected to Nightwing's addition.”
“He basically did.”
Clark was excited, it was always great fun to spar with the new members and learn new tricks. "You know, I'm pretty excited to see what you can do." Barry smiled, hand on Nightwings shoulder. "Heard way too many stories but never saw it in action, you know?"
The younger man laughed. "I promise to not disappoint you." He smiled, glancing at everyone from the middle of the circular mat. He held himself confidently, posture upright and comfortable. Many new members take a while to feel comfortable (especially when they realize how much of a job this was really like with all the paperwork and reports that need to be done), get friendly with the others and as always, the ever present need to keep their identities a secret. It was really hard to have conversations when you needed to keep your personal life a secret.
"So. How does this work?"
"Oh! The technolog-" Barry started, looking around the barrier. "Oh, no. I've got that covered. How will today's sparring go?"
Batman surprised everyone by speaking up first. "You'll spar with everyone one on one. 10 minutes each continuously or until someone taps out. Break every 3 rounds."
"Hmmm."
Having had a short conversation earlier with him about his name and realizing he was, in fact, human and did not take inspiration from the Kryptonian hero. Clark felt comfortable piping in next, "So humans first?"
Nightwing gasped dramatically. "What, you think you're gonna hurt me?"
“Well..”
They did underestimate his abilities. The footage of Nightwing working back at Blüdhaven hid so many of his tricks. Especially that he has Escrima sticks and was good at using them. He could do so many weird flips, was extremely good on his feet and was flexible beyond belief. If Clark didn’t know him at all he would assume Nightwing was somewhat related to Plastic man.
"Man!" Flash gasped out, laughing as they declared a tie at the end of the 10 minutes. "I knew you were good but damn, how long have you been doing this for?"
Nightwing pursed his lips, placing his hands on his hips to think. "Well…. long enough." and Superman saw that. He didn't really see it but he knew it happened. Nightwing glanced at Batman through his domino mask at the question. It wasn’t like Clark could look through the lens but there was something about the way he tilted his head.
Batman obviously had no reaction to that. Flash knocked his shoulder, pointing at him. "If I had to guess, I'd say you've been doing this since you were a kid.”
“Hah. right.”
Nightwing landed on the ground with a huff. “This is sooooo boring.” He moaned, curling up into a ball on the mat. “Coach, put me innnnnnnnnn.” He dragged, although he didn't really seem truly annoyed.
The heroes around just smiled at his antics. They were already getting used to the guy, he was quite easy to talk to, friendly and a charmer. He showed himself to be a great strategist but it was only on paper.
“You are in.” Batman stated, breaking the pause and looking at the kid from his spot.
“Yeah but I haven’t done anything real yet.”
“Are you implying you want a horrible disaster to happen?”
Nightwing sighed loudly. “No?”
And Clark.. Well, he knew to never hope for trouble.
The clean-up was Clark's least favourite part. On the plus side, it was Nightwings first mission with them.
They worked well together, extremely well. Doing practice scenarios with the team for the first month was all Nightwing was allowed to do. It was needed for all new members so everyone was able to get used to them and how they fought, learn ways of unspoken communication, Clark was never around to watch Batman and Nightwing spar but he heard through the grapevine that there were no problems.
Superman was feeling happy about it. You could say he was hyped, for the debrief. He didn't really see how Nightwing did, but he did notice Batman and him doing some type of back to back attack, spinning in circles and covering for each other.
"Superman 0-1"
"Why didn’t you trust me?" Nightwing asked, a deep frown between his brows. The posture in his body was obvious with frustration , hands in front of him. Clark frowned.
"I never said that."
"Green lantern 0-5"
"Sure. and I’m an alien." The kid laughed humourlessly. "I had them tricked and you just had to swoop in and ruin it!"
"Green Arrow 0-8"
"We will not be having this conversation right now."
"Flash 0-4"
"Hey hey! That was amazi….ng?" Flash paused, looking at the others who entered earlier. Hal just shrugged. Clark could hear a start of a word come out from the kid's mouth, but he thought against it and deflated. Shoulders resting lower. "Nothing." Batman stood there for a moment, looking over the kid before walking away, who just stood there with his hands on his hips. Batman blocked him slightly, looking back at the leaguers.
Supes could only hear him breathing deep, the click of his teeth as Nightwing snapped his jaw close.
"We shall have our debrief now." and Nightwing was gone.
"You saw what I saw earlier right? Batman didn't tear into him. Just let him be angry at him."
"He dismissed him really." "It may have been justified…or-"
"It wasn't." Diana had arrived at the watchtower earlier than anyone else did and probably saw the start of the argument. "It was their first time working together on a mission, Nightwing would be naive to think that Batman was purposefully ambushing his plan as it was never explained nor expected." She added. "and he shouldn't have just left without attending the debrief.”
"I thought they worked fine during sparring sessions?"
Clark was conflicted. Nightwing had glowing recommendations and has shown himself to be an amazing person. They had great conversations and he was always playful and cheerful during the team practice sessions. He didn't let his secret identity stop him from making friends, like a certain someone did.
“I’m sure it's just because he’s new. Being good doesn't mean he can get along with everyone and.. You know how Batman is.”
Then it was as if nothing ever happened. Clark always thought that Diana, Batman and him were a trio. Or at least he thought that he was closer to Batman than the others like Flash and GL.
"Guys. I think Nightwing and Batman actually… don't hate each other." Flash whispered, but it was hard to hear his words from the muffin in his mouth. They were chilling in the lunch room, since Superman just passed watch duty off and wanted to hang for a while.
Green Arrow laughed. "What are you saying?" like the idea was unfathomable. They all saw the stupid awkward interaction last time.
"Okay, wait," He added, chewing faster and swallowing loudly. (Just to Clark's ears). "I was doing my own running training, right, and I zeta-tubed here since I left something in the medical bay like 3 weeks ago and finally remembered to get it. I was zooming past the conference room and saw Batman sitting in front of the huge screens as he usually does, but Nightwing was there too."
He paused to sip water. Diana didn't seem too amused at that.
"Yes, for watch patrol?" Clark added.
"Yes. but he was holding this thing, I don't know, a Batarang?" Flash paused to think. “Like the bat shaped boomerangs that Batman uses, you know?” He punctuated it with a huge chomp of the muffin. The guy had a fast metabolism and apparently that meant he was eating while talking. Clark thought it was mildly gross. Wait-
“A Batarang?” Diana confirmed. “Yeah!” He snapped his fingers.
“Oh, I never knew he allowed us to use his items.” Green lantern raised an eyebrow, looking around. “I thought he would punch me upside down if I ever got close to him, let alone his stuff.”
“Are you sure it was a batarang?” Clark heard himself asking.
“Yeah and he was tossing it up and down and flicking it across the room.” Barry added, as if he suddenly remembered the detail. “And Batman said something and Nightwing just laughed.”
Hal, ever the gossip mill, leaned closer. “Do you remember what he said?”
Barry just shrugged. “No it was too soft, but Nightwing placed his feet on the control table and- and Batman didn’t do anything?”
Clark blinked. He would never do something so unprofessional, although plenty of them were comfortable with each other to the extent of lazing around, but never during watch duty. Never on the control desk like that. Not in front of Batman.
“That’s unprofessional.” He stated.
Flash turned to look at him. “That’s what you’re concerned about? I’m implying Batman’s been replaced by a clone and you’re concerned about it being unprofessional?".
Surprised, Clark clarified, “well, it is unprofessional to do that in front of your boss.”
“Duh but not the point.” That was the point. Clark thought. He was actually starting to find himself getting annoyed at the talk about Nightwing and Batman but couldn’t figure out why. Technically Batman wasn’t their boss, since they weren't getting a salary from this gig.
“Then what happened?”
“He just let it happen.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yes”
“Sure?”
“Yes! I stood there, mouth open for like 10 seconds when it happened.”
Green Lantern shook his head. “Wait, what did you say about a clone?”
“I didn’t really mean it but… It could explain why though.”
Diana tutted, tapping her chin in thought.
"I think RR would like this one actually." There was the sound of the chair shifting.
"Yes, he would."
There was a shuffle of papers. Nightwing spoke again. "It’s been a while."
A pause. "It has."
Another creak from the chair. Then a snort. “Been busy. And there was never a reason to be in Gotham anyway.”
Gotham? It sounded like a wince came from Batman but Clark wasn’t sure. He’d only heard Batman make like 3 different grunts in his time working with him. “You know what I’m talking about.” Nightwing added.
I’d like to know what you're talking about.
“Yea.” a really long pause. Long enough that Clark tuned into the sound of the 2 heartbeats in the room to make sure they didn’t just suddenly disappear or something. “I’d like it if you visited more.”
Visit more? Clark was confused. He didn’t have the slightest inkling that the two knew each other before this. That Nightwing would be allowed in Gotham? That Batman wishes that he would visit more. Clark had never been to Batman’s place of living. He was almost convinced the recluse probably lived in a dark cave underground with bats as his neighbors or something.
Wait, back to this.
- Nightwing is allowed in Gotham. (??)
- He is close enough to Batman to know where he lives (or at least a safehouse)
- They both know someone called RR?
- It's been a while since they talked? Interacted? Met ?
- Batman wants Nightwing to visit him more.
“I didn't know I could.”
6.Something happened that caused Nightwing to think he couldn't visit Batman.
There was a shift and something set on the table. “You’re always welcome.”
7. Nightwing is always welcomed to Batman's house.
“Oh.”
Superman stayed for a moment more.
This felt too much. Too intimate. Eavesdropping was bad, but for someone with his abilities it felt worse. He could hear Nightwings heart hammering as Batman told him to visit more, Batman's own speeding up a little in the middle of that pause before he said the line.
He felt himself deflate a bit. It seemed Clark was never as close as he thought he was to the Bat. Unsure why he was feeling so affected, he made a mental note to slot it away and think about it next time.
“.. and I’m not sure what this means.” Clark ends, looking up at the other leaguers. Green Lantern looks as if someone told him the earth was turned inside out.
“Wo- Woa what do you mean?” He gestures wildly, “Oh my Gosh. Oh. My. Oh. What even- wha-” Flash shoves him harshly against the chair. “DUDE, Speak words!”
“Batman is gay??” Clark blinks. “I guess?”
“That was not what I thought was surprising you, Green Lantern.” Aquaman states with a slight frown.
Green Lantern shook his head, “No! Like I'm not homophobic, Ally forever” He puts his fist up in the air and a palm on his chest quickly, “but Batman, the “I am the night”, bat-loving, probably lives in a cave recluse… has a young, hip, vigilante boyfriend? He’s like 50!? And Nightwing’s like.. I dunno 25??”
“I don’t see how that would mean they are romantic partners?”
“There's no other explanation though!”
"What are we talking about?”
Everyone’s head snaps to the voice, where Nightwing stands holding a small white box.
“Nightwing! What are you doing here?” Clark asks first, since he heard everyone’s heart jump at the question. Green Lantern is quick to right himself, leaning back in his chair and resting his elbows on the table like he normally does. “I didn’t think you had watch duty today?”
"Oh. I don’t! I bought cupcakes." Nightwing called out, gesturing towards the box. "I wanted to celebrate cause it's been 3 months so I'm an official member now!" Walking up, he places the box down and displays them.
Clark gasped, it was a quick 3 months. "Congratulations Nightwing, I apologize for forgetting. I've just been so busy with-"
"It's cool Supe, I got the fun superhero cupcakes that have the logos on them. Look at this one, it's B!" He laughed, picking up the black frosting covered cupcake with a bat on it to show everyone. "It mostly gives off Halloween vibes instead of Batman though." Green Lantern nods, giving the young man a lookover when he looks away.
Clark tries to get the pilot’s attention, hinting that he needs to cut it out, don't look at him like that, before he smiles quickly when Nightwing looks up, holding the one with blue red yellow frosting and his signature S sign. "Here's yours." He takes the cupcake with thanks.
Trying to get the others moving, Aquaman reaches for his cupcake. "I'll help myself to this one since B probably won't want one anyway, it's like he's allergic to whimsy." Clark blinked, not really sure on how to reply as he took the cupcake. "Well-"
"I am allergic to whimsy." A voice calls out from behind them. Nightwing seemed to roll his eyes at the voice, shifting to look behind him. "Way to go B. I was having a cute moment with Supes!”
Were they?
Green Lantern looks towards Batman and then back at Nightwing, then back at Batman again. Gosh, for someone on a superhero team GL was horrendous at trying to keep a poker face right now.
"By all means, carry on."
Nightwing blew a raspberry. “Wasn’t gonna wait for your permission anyway.” He states plainly, chomping into the Batman cupcake theatrically.
“If it pleases you, Batman, you can have my cupcake.” J'onn held his chocolate cupcake up.
“No thanks, J’onn please have it.”
"I heard a complaint that there aren't any more seaweed chips back at the manor”
Batman pauses, looking up at Nightwing. "When did he come home?"
The younger man hums thoughtfully, "I dunno, last night?”
"Tell him to come by tomorrow." Nightwing snorted at that. “I don’t think that’ll work, Old man.”
Hal was sitting at the other side of the lunchroom with Green Arrow, both glancing at each other during the conversation. They were facing the windows, backs to the two. "Old Man?" Hal whispered, looking at GA for anything but it was of no help. And who was this he they were talking about?
The guy just shrugged and went back to eating his lunch. Hal glanced back at the pair, noticing Batman tapping softly against the table as Nightwing continued to talk.
Tense shoulders, a small downturn in the corner of his lips, a slight shift in his foot every few seconds. If he didn't know better, he would have thought the Bat was nervous - but that's impossible. There was no reason, no threat, nobody important. (that he could see)
GA nudges him lightly, raising an eyebrow to remind him not to stare. The pilot was about to whisper a question when Batman pulled his hand back from the table, turning his head to look at Nightwing directly.
Hal turned to face the window again, so it'll look less like he was eavesdropping.
"Are you coming," a breath. "home later?"
Hal could see the pause in GA's chewing, you know, to help him hear better.
Nightwing must have been taken aback at that because there was a pause that was way too long to not be awkward. Hal stared forward, trying to use the reflections through the glass windows to observe them. He couldn’t see anything but odd blobs of shadow.
"I could." He finally settled on.
"Ok."
"..Okay."
"Master Dick, I am pleased to welcome you back. I have prepared a spread for dinner."
Dick smiled, shrugging a shoulder up in a shy way. "Aw Alfie, don't make me blush." He bound past the man, smiling. "I've missed your food anyway. Convenient store mac and cheese can't even hold up to your snacks."
“That sounds horrendous.”
"It's kinda weird no?" Hal asks, flicking his paper cup. "Why would Bats need to invite him home if they’re like, a thing?" Flash perks up. "Yes! I've been thinking about it too - I think, just thinking, that maybe they aren’t together?"
"wha-" Flash cut him off with a wave.
"No like, I think they were probably together in the past and maybe broke up a while back. That would explain why Bats was so awkward about Nightwing joining, why Nightwing doesn't live in Gotham and why he apparently hasn't been back at "home", wherever that is."
Everyone paused at that. When he said it that way…
“Also, remember Superman saying that it seemed like something happened that caused Nightwing to think he wasn’t allowed to visit Bats anymore? It was just them breaking up!”
“When you say it like that…”
And that was that. The league lived with the very mind-blending information that Batman, the recluse and Mr Grunter was 1) capable of being in a relationship. 2) is gay 3) Has a young cute ex-boyfriend that just so happens to also work alongside him. 4) has a thing for younger guys apparently??
It was Nightwing's first interaction with the toxin.
The young robin appeared halfway through the disaster much to the annoyance of his mentor. Batman snapped at him to leave but the little one just ignored him in return of knocking one of the goons out. He seemed different but Clark couldn’t waste much time on wondering what it was about his haircut or height that felt so off.
Clark understands that hearing about a situation and actually being in one is very different. Nightwing was in plain view when scarecrow pulled a pin out of the bottle, tossing it directly towards the unsuspecting vigilante. There was a gasp.
He laughed manically before disappearing in the fog like a stupid magician.
Superman should have flown and pushed him out of the way but he had barely processed what was happening before they were thrown.
"FLASH!" Diana exclaimed, pointing at a large piece of ceiling. Flash speeds over, picking it up and using it to fan the gas away quickly. "Where did Nightwing go?"
They could hear the sound of fist to floor, groaning and gasping. The fog cleared quickly as flash moved closer, revealing Nightwing sprawled on his front, breathing deeply. He gagged loudly, groaning under his breath.
“Nightwing!” Robin called, grappling across the room and landing in front of the barely there shadow. He has a respirator on and something in his hands. "We need to get him into the decontamination chamber-"
"UH-" Nightwing gasps, shaking his head harshly. "No.. wh- d-" He stutters, fighting the words coming out of his mouth. Then he screams, hands coming up to his ears.
“Nightwing!” The vigilante gasps, grabbing onto the younger kid's shoulders when he realizes who's in front of him. “Yes, Baba I’m- Nightwing, I’m here.” Batman’s voice cut through the scene.
"Green Lantern, Pick him up and get him back to the Watchtower decontamination chamber."
"NO!" Nightwing shouted in response and pulled Robin closer. The young boy gasped at the sudden action but did nothing else. "No. Dam- B? B!" Nightwing swiped an arm aimlessly, one hand still gripping onto Robin. Batman inhales minutely, walking closer and getting in front of the two.
"Nightwing? I'm here." He whispers, letting the man hit him before placing his hand on his shoulder. "It's Scarecrow, you know that." Nightwing frowns, pressing his lips together. "Not real." He says.
"Yes, what you're seeing isn't real."
"Not real." He forces out, shaking his head and dragging his hand down his face. Superman looks away, because it feels a bit too much. Too vulnerable. He should start cleaning up. He nudges his jaw at GL, gesturing for him to hurry up.
"B?"
Hal creates a green bubble around the two, lifting off only once the Bat turns to acknowledge him.
They have their debrief, without Nightwing and Robin, since he's in the decontamination chamber and will be for up to 2 hours. Robin announced he would be keeping watch of Nightwing, but thinking that Batman may not allow that, Clark volunteered.
“It’s alright, let Robin do it.”
It’s only a week later when someone brings it up that Clark remembers.
Baba.
Robin is Batman's mentee. But if Nightwing is his ex and Robin calls him baba…
“Yes, Baba I’m- Nightwing, I’m here.”
“They have a kid?” Green Arrow whispered. Clark stares at his coffee swirling. “Wow.”
“Maybe they didn’t break up at all.” Flash says, playing with the rolled up tissue. “Maybe they’re married and have a kid together and were going through a rough patch. Or divorced?”
“That’s all possible I guess. I didn’t expect for someone like him to be a father at what I assume is quite a young age.
“He’s like twenty-six MAX.”
“Who’s Max?” “GAH- You GOT to stop doing that Nightwing!” Flash jumped, throwing the tissue towards the guy. Nightwing hit it out of the way, smirking. “I’m not doing anything, maybe you should be more aware of your surroundings.” He pointed out.
“Ugh, you sound like him too.” Green Lantern groaned, rubbing his temples. Clark smiled, because he really did sound like Batman at that moment. Nightwing blinked, coming closer to the table. “Like…?”
“Like Batman! Ugh, Why did it take us so long to realize?”
“Oh! I thought he told you guys?” He frowned, hands on hips as he leaned his weight on one leg. “I always thought it was pretty obvious.”
“No??? Why would we think our maybe 40 year old colleague would be in a relationship with our new probably 26 year old cooler-”
“HUH?”
“Huh?”
“YOU THINK I'M DATING BATMAN?” Footsteps appear behind him. “What. Who thinks you’re dating me?”
“B! This is why you need to talk to people!” Nightwing groans, rubbing his face. “I can’t believe this, it's so embarrassingohmygoshimgonnavomit” He gags, holding his stomach and reaching to rest a hand on Batman’s shoulder but pulling back quickly and shaking his head. Batman's lips are curled in slight disgust, looking at everyone disappointedly. “I can’t believe you all would think this.”
Flash blinks. “So. you guys are..”
Nightwing coughs. “He’s my dad.”
“WHAT?”
