Shane is an organized person. Ilya isn’t disorganized but he is sometimes a little bit chaotic. And always then when he does two things at once. As a result, Ilya often misplaces things. His keys, his phone, his wallet, his headphones. Shane finds them in the weirdest places. One time he found Ilya’s phone in the fridge, because he couldn’t hold the milk, the bowl, the cereal and the phone in his hands at once and Ilya’s solution was to put the phone in the fridge. He searched his phone afterwards for an hour until Shane opened the fridge to put the milk back inside.
Shane was often the one who found Ilya’s lost belongings. And because of that Ilya got used to rely on Shane to get his things back. “Shane, have you seen my wallet?” “In your pants in the bedroom.” “Sweetheart, do you know where my keys are?” “I think next to the coffeemaker in the kitchen.” “Shane, I can’t find my headphones.“ “They are on your head, you idiot!”
This was Shane’s life now. He sat on the sofa cuddling with Anya and reading a book while Ilya rummaged in the kitchen. It seemed like Ilya had lost something. Again! Just a few seconds later Ilya walked into the living room.
“Shane, have you seen my phone?”
“How did you loose it, again?”
“I don’t know.”
“Where did you last see it?”
“Hm… I think in the bedroom. Can you please look with me? You are better at searching than me.”
Shane sighed but stood up from the couch. He walked up the stairs with Ilya two steps behind him. When he entered the bedroom he scanned the room. His eyes landed on the bedside table. There was the phone but on top of it was a little box. Shane stepped closer and took the box in his hand.
“Ilya what is this?” Shane asked without taking his eyes from the box.
“Open it.”
Shane opened the box carefully. Inside were the little rings from their first wedding in the Pike house.
“What does that mean?” Shane asked while turning around.
Ilya was on one knee before him looking up with so much love in his eyes. He took Shane’s hand in his and started to talk.
“We are officially married for five years now and those five years have been the happiest years of my life. I’m so lucky to spend every day with you. You inspire me to be better for you but also for myself. And I can’t even imagine a life without you anymore. You helped me be the man that I am today. And to watch you be yourself and get better and happier everyday makes me so so proud. You are the best thing that ever happened to me. Will you marry me, again?”
Shane had already tears in his eyes that threatened to fall down. He looked down at his beautiful, caring and loving husband and there was only one answer to his question.
“Yes, of course I will marry you. Even if it means I have to look for your belongings for the rest of my life.”
Shane pulled Ilya up from the ground and kissed him deeply.
“I love you so much, baby!”
“I love you, too sweetheart!”
