Bowser doesn’t know how the conversation started nor does the reason behind it matter. Strangely enough, he’s been able to freely speak his mind and convey his feelings to this oddly larger pink haired woman with pointy ears. Her appearance was and still is a mystery but again, the specifics of how it happened didn’t matter at the time. He was able to speak with said woman without feeling ashamed in the slightest. And that put Bowser’s mind at ease.
For a while, the air around the two lovesick lovebirds stilled and the atmosphere around them was silent.
Bowser eventually let out a heavy sigh while holding his claws in between his lap. The woman sat next to him on a small patch of assorted pink and white flowers that appeared as she walked. She placed a gentle hand on Bowser’s shoulder just as he lifted his head to gaze off into the darkness that was illuminated with an abundance of large, translucent and glowing pillars draped in tapestry. “Am I just not good enough? That human—Mario, he always seems to have Peaches more than I do.” The woman did not speak. At least, not at the moment. She waited a while before speaking her mind, soon looking attentively at the turtle beside her.
“Has this ‘Peaches’ lady ever told you how she feels about you yet?”
“She said and I quote ‘I just have no interest in a monster like you’ and that was the end of it. But am I really that much of a monster to her? Be honest.”
“Well…” The woman looked at the turtle carefully before awkwardly clearing her throat and shyly tapping her index fingers together. “…She’s technically not wrong. You are a… very large… turtle that really isn’t… human.”
“HEY, WHY ARE YOU INSULTING ME? YOU’RE SOUNDING JUST LIKE PEACHES! AREN’T YOU SUPPOSED TO BE ON MY SIDE?!”
“YOU TOLD ME TO BE HONEST SO I’M BEING HONEST, DAMN IT! AND FOR THE RECORD, I’M STAYING NEUTRAL!”
And then there was silence.
Bowser’s snout stopped flaring with steam and he slowed his breathing to regain his composure. He eventually let out yet another heavy sigh before turning to look at the woman. As for the woman, she soon stopped pouting at the turtle next to her and went back to her usual relaxed demeanor. “I see. Sorry about that, heh heh. I’m not feeling like myself today. And what about you? You’re in a three way relationship, right? How’s that been working for you?”
The woman sighed softly and in turn, also turned to gaze at the darkness beyond her. “Well I can’t exactly see them. I want to. I really do. I want to hold them close but… Both Khaslana, my dear friend and my partner are moving forward without me while I’m moving backward. I’m afraid that it’s complicated so I won’t try to explain it because it’ll be hard to do so.”
Bowser didn’t dare question it any further.
Both him and the woman continued to talk more about their relationship struggles and after a couple of laughs, tears and angry screams, they started to share a bond they never thought they’d have.
Just moments before the woman left, Bowser asked her name. “What’s your name, w—I mean, Miss? I’m the king of this kingdom, King Koopa. Or King Bowser. Or many… other names that they call me. I can’t really remember them all. But you can just call me Bowser. Easier that way, anyway.”
“Well, it’s nice to get to know you, Bowser. My name is Cyrene,” The woman, now known as Cyrene, winked at Bowser which made his heart flutter for a moment before flying up into the air. “A word from me. Please cherish the memories you still have with your children. Even though it isn’t perfect, those memories will soon fade away if not remembered.” And with that, Cyrene flew up into the sky.
For a moment, the sky cleared around Cyrene to show the long veil flapping around her beautiful white dress that was covered with glitter everywhere along with a special large white halo with hearts circling her head. She was… much more beautiful than Princess Peach was after getting a better look at her up close. Wait, was he… falling for her? This woman that he just met? And a human woman, no less? Though, that was what he assumed.
A blush soon appeared on Bowser’s face but he quickly pushed that image out of his head. Before she left for good, Bowser outstretched a claw out to Cyrene which made her look at him, confused. “Wait—! B-Before you go, Cyrene, when… can I see you again? Is there a special time and place or…? Does that stuff really matter? Not that I’m worried or anything like that! I’m just… curious, is all.”
“Oh? You want to see me again~? I thought you wanted to see that Peaches lady more~?” Bowser’s eyebrows furrowed at Cyrene after she said that and she waved him off, giggling. “Okay okay, I’m just kidding! You’ll see me everywhere you go so don’t worry, Bowser. I have another version of myself in the sky overlooking this star system so that way, I’ll be everywhere. Try not to cause any trouble. Bye for now~” Cyrene made a tiny hand gesture waving him goodbye and after that, she flew off.
What was left of her were the pink and white flowers scattered and rooted deep within the volcanic soil. Though, after a while, that vanished as well.
Bowser looked back down at his lap and then that same image of Cyrene popped up in his head which made him blush heavily. He shook his head multiple times before heading back towards his castle to go and splash water in his face.
Maybe… he really was falling for her and not Peach. If that was the case, they wouldn’t be able to work either because she also loves someone else. And besides, she’s just a stranger. Nothing more, nothing less. She’s also just a human.
They couldn’t possibly be together.
