Emma McCarter

SunnyVile Alabama, June 24th,1997…

“Hurry up!” Ivy yelled, her midnight black hair swaying in the wind, as she ran up the hill. She sprinted like a cheetah, her friends barely keeping up.

“Maybe you should slow down!” Sage yelled back, catching up to Ivy, and holding her hand. Her chocolate brown eyes shone in the sun. She blushed as Ivy slowed down, and then they giggled as they went ahead of the boys.

“And… they’re gone,” Cole said calmly, to Eli as they bumped shoulders. Cole's jet black hair looked so beautiful and Eli smiled, smiled like he hadn't in months. “I’ve missed that smile,” Cole said, giggling like a toddler.

“And I've missed that giggle,” Eli said, his deep brown eyes staring at Cole’s lips, before quickly looking away.

Then all of a sunden, a blood curdling shriek filled the air. It sounded absolutely mortified, like whatever that was saw someone's eyes get ripped right out of their skull. It sounded awfully familiar, way too familiar. Cole, Eli, Ivy, and Sage looked at each other, horrified. Ivy gripped Sage’s hand tightly, it was quiet for a while, before Cole broke the neverending silence.

“What the fuck was that,” Cole spat out, his grey eyes looking horrified. He started shaking and looked to where the Scream came from.

They all then ran at the same moment. Then ran up the hill and heard more screams, they looked down and saw their bully, Emma McCarter. Her arm was ripped off as she screamed for help, “HELP! SOME ONE HELP! PLEASE IT BURNS IT BURNS!” They were about to run down to help her when they saw something. Something tall, it was green, and its eyes were wide open.

“I think I just shit myself,” Ivy muttered, shock, and terror visible on her face. “We gotta go, like now.”

Cole muttered “I want my daddy.” he started to sob, the terror just took over. He shook, the sight was horrendous, horrific.

Then they all then sprinted far, far, away, until they were in the busy town again. People filled the streets, happy people. There was laughter, there were family, there were stores, but Ivy, Cole, Eli, and Sage were frozen.

“We need to go to the library,” spat out Eli, his hazel eyes dead. “We can find out what exactly that- well uh… thing was.”

“Good idea,” Ivy replied, her hands shaking. “I think they have a section about big foot, and all those myths.”

Eli wrapped his arms around Cole’s sobbing body. Cole shook, and sobbed into Eli’s shoulder. “Hey, man it's gonna be alright,” Eli said to Cole softly. He sat down on the curb with Cole, and rocked him back and forth, back and forth. “Shh, it's gonna be okay.”

“Its more than a feeling
(more than a feeling)
When I hear that old song they used to play
(more than a feeling)
I being dreaming
(More than a feeling)
Till I see Marianne walk away”

“Ok we need to get going guys” Sage said, clearly in a HUGE rush, “We don't have any time to waste.”

“Yu-yu-yeah, Sage is right, let's head out,” Cole whispered quietly. He was very shaken up, but he tried to stay calm. His body was still wrapped in Eli’s arms, before he let go.

They walked to the library together, they chatted trying their best to act normal, but it felt nearly impossible. It's just that the sight was so horrific, and yes they HATED Emma, but she was still a person. She had people who were going to miss her, she had a family, she was only 13. Yes she wasn't the kindest, and yes she called Sage, Cole, And Eli names, (not Ivy cause she is pretty and people like her) but she was so young. She deserved better.

They got to the library and walked in, immediately they ran to the myths section and they searched for hours on end, until they found something.

“Hey guys, I think I found something,” Ivy muttered, slowly picking up an old book, looking down.

“Wh-wh-wh-what did you find,” Cole stuttered out, looking up at Ivy with his deep brown eyes.

“A book, the uh… the uhm- Sheriekclaw? Weird name. Do you think it could be it or no cause I mean-”

“Probably,” Eli said, peering over at the book, his dark brown hair in Ivy’s face. “Yeah that's definitely it.”

“GET YOUR HAIR OUT OF MY FACE!” yelled Ivy, clearly joking as they all giggled so hard, pulling Eli’s

“Ms. Xue shall we not?” said Mrs. K, the librarian who knew everyone's names, yet she still couldn’t pronounce Xue. She had a grey perm, and was very kind. “That includes you Mr. Fairchild,” she said to Cole, whose fear seemed to disappear as he giggled like crazy.

They quieted down after getting yelled at, they read the book, practically 1 inch apart. Their shoulders touched as Sage read.

“This is it,” Sage said, looking at the small book that was very dusty, “That is exactly what we are looking for, except 2 feet shorter.”

“How old is the 'Sheriekclaw'? Or whatever that- thing is,” Cole said, curiously looking at Sage.

“It says- god damn! 147 BC!” Sage spat out loudly, looking at the book like it was crazy, she looked so shocked. She pulled her light brown hair. “Wow… Just wow,” she said looking at the old book. “Wow.”

“Danm that is- well uhm… crazy. I mean that thing is 2,100 years old!” Cole said, his brown eyes staring at Eli trying to see his reaction.

I quit :)
